Tokyo Trip Report: Part 3

Rob & I are headed on vacation again this week (squeeeee!!!) so I should probably finish up this Tokyo trip report. Here’s the scoop on our last day!

Friday, 2/20

On our last day in Tokyo, we headed to Kawazu, which is about 2.5 hours from Tokyo by train. Kawazu is known for their early blossoming sakura (cherry blossoms). Their flowering period is late February & March compared to late March & April in the rest of the country. Someday we’ll make it back to Japan for more cherry blossom viewing!

Even the train was decorated in honor of the sakura. Love it.

Rob is ready to go!

I picked out this Sakura latte at the convenience store to go with the theme of the day.

As soon as you exit the train station, we followed the path to the Kawazu River, which is absolutely lined with sakura trees. We started to see them right away! During the sakura viewing period, festival stalls pop up along the banks of the river selling all sorts of food, produce and various souvenirs.

Due to the cold weather Kawazu had been experiencing, the sakura had *just* started to open but weren’t at peak bloom. Bummer. But they were still gorgeous!

Of course I had to get my picture taken with the sakura. 🙂

And I made the boys take pictures too. Heh.

We walked to the right and kept following the path along the river. There’s more than 2+ miles of sakura trees to see!

ILOVEITSOMUCH.

Kawazu had these adorable signs everywhere.

For lunch, we picked up meat on sticks and rested our feet along the banks of the river. YUM!

I was so taken with the sakura. I couldn’t stop taking pictures! Can’t stop, won’t stop.

Group picture using the selfie stick. LOL.

Thanks to Rob for a non-selfie picture of Rob & me.

After a few hours, we turned around and followed the path to the beach.

I believe this is the Sagami Bay that eventually extends to the Pacific Ocean.

We were here!

So many festival stalls to peruse!

It was a great day but time to head back to Tokyo. Since the train follows the coast, we had these amazing views.

And just like that, our trip had come to an end. We arrived back in Tokyo, did some last minute shopping and sadly packed our bags.

So long, Tokyo! Can’t wait until we meet again.
