Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

So yeah. I pretty much disappeared. Besides working, Rob and I have been prepping, painting and moving. OMG. It’s an incredible amount of work. In the past week, we’ve painted the entry, great room, staircase, 2nd floor hallway, and master bedroom. And there’s still many more rooms to finish. We thought we would be done with the entire house this weekend but that didn’t happen. We totally got burned out. Not to mention that the movers came last Friday so we’ve also been busy unpacking and trying to get things organized and livable. We’re getting there sloooooowly. Very slowly.

Catching up (a little) with the meme (I’m such a failure at these)…

Day 08 – A show everyone should watch

Friday Night Lights. This show is AMAZING. I think many people get caught up in the football/sports aspect of it and don’t give it a chance. It’s so much more than that. Football provides the framework but this is about small town life in Dillon, TX and the people that make it their home. The characters are likable and real, the storylines are rich with emotion, and the show’s not afraid to take risks (some bad – Tyra & Landry’s season 2 storyline, some good – turning the show upside down at the end of season 3). Catch up on DVD! You won’t regret it.

Day 09 – Best scene ever

From Dawson’s Creek episode 3.22: The Anti-Prom…
Joey: I’ve been meaning to ask you something all night, Pacey. Would you like to dance with me?
Pacey: Yes. (they move to the dance floor) How come this feels so right?
Joey: It was those dance lessons.
Pacey: (he looks at her earrings) Where did you get those? They’re not you.
Joey: Why? Because I’m just a poor tomboy or… Dawson gave them to me.
Pacey: Nah. (raising her hand with the bracelet) See this? This is you. It’s not showy or gaudy. It’s simple. Elegant. Beautiful.
Joey: It’s my mom’s bracelet.
Pacey: I know.
Joey: How do you know?
Pacey: Well, because you told me. Six months ago. You were wearing that blue sweater with the snowflakes that you have. You were walking down the hallway at school. I was annoying you as per usual. You said, “Look, Pacey, I just found my mother’s bracelet this morning… so why don’t you cut me some slack?”
Joey: You remember that?
Pacey: (whispering) I remember everything.

LOVE THIS SO MUCH. The ultimate romantic moment.

Day 10 – A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

Burn Notice. Rob started watching this show and I just wasn’t interested. The burned spy premise sounded intriguing but nothing about the cast (specifically Gabrielle Anwar) or the advertising appealed to me. Yes, I’m *that* superficial. Fast forward a few years later when I happen to catch an episode and instantly fall in love with Michael Westen. He’s smart, witty, and unbelievably charming. I’ve only seen season 3 on but hope to catch up with the beginning soon.

Day 11 – A show that disappointed you

Heroes. It doesn’t even get its own photo that’s how bitter I am about this show. Season 1 was so great — an ordinary group of people discovering their powers and figuring out how to go about their lives. But it allll went downhill from there. They ruined perfectly good characters with lame storylines (Hiro’s time travel in season 2 was an absolute snoozefest, Peter in Ireland also comes to mind). Characters were introduced only to let them fall by the wayside (Maya, Elle, Monica). Story arcs were unclear and confusing (only season 1 had a fulfilling arc – after that, I had no clue what the point of each season was supposed to be). What wasted potential.

30 Days of TV Meme: Days 5-7

OMG. Rob & I spent the ENTIRE weekend painting the living areas of the first floor. I AM ^%$#@! BEAT. But it looks pretty good if I do say so myself! Still lots of little touch-ups to do, though. I’ll post some pics once it looks less like a disaster.

Day 05 – A show you hate
No show in particular but basically ALL of those reality shows where someone is trying to find their “true love” — like The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Rock of Love, Flavor of Love, etc. They’re so cringe-worthy. I get SEVERE second-hand embarassment.

Day 06 – Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Dawson’s Creek 323: True Love.

Awesome payoff for the Pacey & Joey romance arc in season 3. Loved that Pacey laid it all on the line for Joey and she finally showed him that she has feelings in return by sailing away with him on the True Love for the summer. So romantic!

Honorable mention to Dawson’s Creek 615: Castaways. It’s an ENTIRE episode of Pacey & Joey. I don’t know what could be better.

Day 07 – Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Dawson’s Creek 515: Downtown Crossing.

Just thinking about this episode kills me. Joey is walking home at night and is mugged at gunpoint. After robbing Joey, her mugger is accidentally hit by a car. No, I’m not joking. WAIT. IT GETS BETTER. She proceeds to stay with him until the ambulance arrives, somehow meets his daughter at the hospital and LIES to her about her father being a hero. WTF. I wish I was kidding.

Thanks for the well wishes! Rob, Diesel & I are super happy about the house. We’re painting this weekend and the movers are coming 4th of July weekend. Exciting!

Ok, back to my regularly scheduled meme.

Day 03 – Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

WHITE COLLAR!

It’s not your typical crime drama. Especially when you have the delectable Matt Bomer playing white collar criminal turned FBI consultant Neal Caffrey. HEISSOCUTE. And I *adore* his unlikely love/hate relationship with his FBI handler Peter Burke. Their back and forth banter makes me positively giddy.

Honorable mention goes to The Vampire Diaries. Honestly, I had EXTREMELY low expectations for this show (I’m not a Twilight fan). I pretty much only tuned in because the CW owns me. But I was pleasantly surprised. The story actually progresses in every single episode! That’s pretty much unheard of in a teen show. And there’s a love triangle that’s well done. I can’t even decide between Elena/Stefan and Elena/Damon. Craziness. It doesn’t hurt that the cast is HOT. Guh.

Day 02 – A show that you wish more people were watching

CHUCK! It’s a hidden gem. I SWEAR.

I know that a computer whiz downloading government secrets into his brain (and later becoming a super spy) sounds a little (ok, a LOT) out there. I get it. That’s what I thought too! But it’s about the characters. Chuck’s a likable boy next door who works at the Buy More (aka Best Buy) and has a “secret” life complete with NSA & CIA handlers John Casey and Sarah Walker. And OMG, their interactions and spy missions are awesome. Throughout the past 3 seasons, we’ve watched them accept each other and develop into a real team capable of learning from and appreciating one another. Throw in Chuck’s nerdy best friend Morgan and his over-protective sister Ellie (neither of whom know his secret) and you’ve got yourself a fun action-comedy.

LOVE THIS SHOW. Catch up on DVD!

We’re supposed to close escrow on our house this week so my brain is too focused on packing and moving to write real blog entries. So instead, I will attempt another 30 Day Meme! Heh. This one’s about TV so hopefully I’ll actually finish it this time.

I’ll agree with EVERYONE and say Firefly. I found the show on DVD well after it was canceled and with only 14 episodes, it left me wanting more. I loved Mal and his ragtag band of Serenity crew members. Freaking FOX always ruins everything.

I’d also like to give an Honorable Mention to Everwood. The show did have 4 wonderful seasons, though, so I’m just being greedy.

I failed at the 30 day meme yesterday because it was a crappy work day. People take things SO. DAMN. SERIOUSLY. Sometimes I just want to say that it’s not the end of the world. Geesh.

Anyway… let’s continue on…

Day 19 — A Talent of Yours

Oh hell, I don’t know. I’m 30… my talented days are behind me. I guess ballet *used* to be a talent of mine. I started dancing when I was 3 and trained until I was 14. I even considered becoming a professional ballerina despite the lack of job stability. I only stopped because my mom passed away and ballet was “our” thing. It wasn’t the same without her. Anyway, it’s been 3+ years since I took any classes so due to non-practice, I’m positive my skill and technique are definitely lacking.

Otherwise, I’ve got nothing. No other talents.

Day 20 — A Hobby of Yours

My biggest hobby is obviously my blog. I started it back in 2002 and attempted to design and code it myself. I look back at some of my old layouts and cringe. LOL. In my old age, I have become laaaazy and now rely on Wordpress themes so I can concentrate on just writing entries.

I guess you can also count watching TV, scrapbooking, reading, and collecting Starbucks mugs as other hobbies.

Rob and I already have an awesome Canon camcorder that we bought for our trip to Australia but when I received a white Flip Mino camcorder for Christmas from a work vendor, I was so excited! It’s user-friendly, small enough to fit in my purse, and I can use it to capture random things I come across in my daily life. To test it out, Rob took this video of Diesel rolling over and playing dead (it’s a little shaky and the sound is low but Diesel’s still cute)…

So fun!

Don’t laugh. Rob and I went to Target and I came home with a Snuggie. It’s pink! And totally awesome.

Day 16 — A Song that makes you cry

I’m much more of a visual person so music alone doesn’t really make me cry. But one song that comes close is another one that Rob and I used at our wedding — it’s the “Forrest Gump Suite” by Alan Silvestri. The first 2 minutes of the song is the section we used for my walk down the aisle. I was so calm before the wedding but when our guitarist started playing the this song and I stood at the top of the stairs looking down at Rob, I lost it and the tears started falling. Even now, I look back at that moment and I feel the emotions rushing back.
