Last call for holiday cards! (Yes, I’m still making/writing them — I am notorious for procrastinating). Please leave me a note in the comments if you’d like one. 😀
I’ve finally been watching my Netflix movies as soon as they arrive… quick thoughts…
Liked Dreamgirls. I expected the singing and acting to be solid (and they were) but I was not expecting Jennifer Hudson to blow me away the way she did. She was *phenomenal.* Recommended.
Also liked Catch and Release. To be honest, I only rented this because I love Jennifer Garner. I didn’t think it would be very good and it really wasn’t. Part of the problem was that the movie was trying to be so many things — a romantic comedy, a chick flick, a drama — and it didn’t succeed at any of them. Plus, I thought it was strange that JG’s character didn’t have any friends other than those of her fiance’s. JG was still awesome, despite the story flaws… she’s great at conveying so much emotion on her face. I’d only recommend this movie if you’re a JG fan. It doesn’t really have anything to offer if you’re not. :/
Hairspray was AMAZING! It was so fun and engaging — I loved every moment of it. Go see it now! Highly recommended.
And today I saw Superbad. Surprisingly, I really liked it. It’s not normally my kind of humor but the characters managed to take the raunchy jokes and somehow make them… charming. CRAZY. Recommended (as long as you know what you’re getting into).
Also, I’ve seen so many commercials for Atonement that I totally want to read the book (and see the movie). Has anyone read it?
My mother said she tried to read Atonement once and she gave up — not sure what that means, as she reads a lot and lots of different kinds of books, but it must have been too ‘involved’ for her. But I feel the same as you – I want to read the book and see the movie, but fat chance for me actually reading the book first. I think I’ll just be honest with myself and say I’ll see the movie and be happy about it. haha
I haven’t read Atonement yet but if you read it let us know what you think. I don’t really want to see the movie but I have become more interested in the book because of the movie.
Hey Kel, I would like to do another holiday card exchange like we did last year! 🙂
You were surprised you liked Superbad? Man, I cried from laughing so hard. But you know me, easily amused. I heart Hairspray, it’s my favorite musical. And now it’s my favorite movie based on a musical, based on a movie. Can you tell I watch 30 Rock?
I’d love a card Kel! 🙂 I haven’t read Atonement or saw the movie yet, but I can’t wait to. Looks really good. Plus, James McAvoy = yum.
I’m trying to read Atonement right now and…I’m not doing too well. The language is really great and fluid, but I’m having a hard time getting into the book itself.
If you give it a shot, let me know what you think!
Catch and Release was pretty UNgood. But there were a few elements I would like to see recycled in future movies. Like Celestial Seasonings. And Boulder, CO.
