up

The lazy stick hit me again.

I’ve been preoccupied with watching Jon and Kate Plus 8 marathons (they are totally separated; how sad), catching up with the show Life that my cousin got me addicted to (like I NEED another show to add to my TV viewing schedule), rooting for the LAKERS, hanging out with visiting friends, and even summer vacation planning.

Speaking of vacations, I just remembered a (maybe?) funny story from a few weekends ago. So Rob and I are tentatively planning an overseas vacation for our first anniversary this summer. While we haven’t officially booked anything yet (waiting and waiting for my vacation to be approved), I figured that I should go ahead and update my passport since I changed my name. Plus, I couldn’t wait to change my passport photo. It is THE WORST picture ever. It was raining in SF the day I took it and I didn’t think to take off my big wool coat or the scarf around my neck for the picture. So I look all huge and bulky. Not a good look. Since I can renew my passport by mail, all I have to do is fill out the application with my new name, write a check for the fee, and send a couple of 2×2 photos. I took my new passport photos at a local mail center and they are EVEN WORSE than the previous ones. My eyes are half closed so I look like I am sleeping standing up. UGH UGH UGH. I was so tempted to take them again but I’m cheap and didn’t want to spend another $10. I’ll just have to live with it for the next 10 years. GREAT.

ANYWAY.

I went to see Up this past weekend. (spoilers?)

Really enjoyed it but GAWD, it was saaaad. I was surprised at how mature the whole movie was — if I was a little kid, I don’t think I’d like it. I definitely appreciate the theme and the message much more at 29. I cried through a lot of the movie (the entire Carl/Ellie montage, Carl getting called a public menace, Carl finally discovering Ellie’s pictures at the end of her adventure book, and finally Carl/Russell becoming buds at the end).

My favorite character is Russell (I want to give him a big HUG) with Dug a very close second. This Dug quote is my absolute favorite of the movie…

“A squirrel walks up to a tree, and says, oh no, I have no nuts for winter. And now I am dead. It’s funny because the squirrel is dead.”

I love this quote too…

“My name is Dug. I have just met you and I love you. My master made me this collar. He is a good and smart master and he made me this collar so that I may speak. [pause] Squirrel!”

BWAH. It’s all in his delivery. So cute.

Highly recommended movie. Go see it!

Random – I’m watching the MTV Movie Awards while blogging and Kristen Stewart just dropped her popcorn award. I cannot watch her. She’s so awkward that it makes me uncomfortable for her.

  1. didn’t life get canceled?

when i think passport, i remember when your husband and i stayed up all nite to get to LA by 6am (dumb a**es thought it would be easier to stay up than get up early) so i could get my passport renewed only to drive to LA and the office was closed.

  2. I so did not get the squirrel joke. I still don’t. Is it so obvious that I’m missing it?

  3. do you know if you can still renew your passport by mail even if it expired, say this past March as mine did?

  4. Kel – Life did get cancelled. 🙁 Not to say you shouldn’t keep watching the episodes because this past season ended pretty great. My hubby and I absolutely loved the show and are so disappointed it’s not coming back. Thanks for the UP review. I’m eager to see it. Oh, I never saw Jon & Kate Plus 8 until Memorial Day weekend when that big marathon was on…and now I’m sucked into the big mess. I watch it for the kids tho – so adorable!

  5. Hi Kelly! How are you guys? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being hit by the lazy stick 🙂 You work hard! It’s been so danged cold in the Bay Area the last week, I’m sure it has been nice and sunny in the OC! Where are you guys going to go for your anniversary? How exciting! If you need any ideas, I think you guys would LOVE Australia. It’s like California but with the cleanliness of Canada.
Ah it was nice to catch up with your blog, glad to hear it sounds like you are doing well! Please say hi to Rob 🙂

  6. Hey Ruby! I don’t think it was meant to be a funny haha type of joke… it’s funny because of the way Dug interpreted the joke. That’s how Rob and I understood it at least. 🙂

  7. Yup, it looks like Bev and Hardo are correct… Life was cancelled. 🙁 Boo. Rob and i just watched the first season and really liked it! Bummer.
