heroes 114

Quick Monday night TV thoughts…

Poor Jack Bauer. He has the WORST. FAMILY. EVER.

Michael and Sara totally made me SQUEE with joy in Prison Break. Those two have smoldering chemistry. I’ve been so hesitant to like them together because in PB time, it’s only been a few months since they first met. There just hasn’t been enough time for them to develop feelings for each other. But I can’t help it. The show is trying to manipulate me and I’m totally getting sucked in. I’m such a sap.

I absolutely love Heroes but I rarely feel compelled to blog about it… until tonight. HOLY CRAP. The reveal at the end!!! (Cutting for spoilers).

brothers and sisters

Thanks for all the great words of encouragement, everyone. You don’t know how much they mean to me. *hugs* I’m feeling so much better now that I got some of that “stuff” off my chest.

Plus, I’ve been comforting myself with… TV!!!

I finally sat down and watched 6 episodes of Brothers and Sisters today on abc.com and it’s SO GREAT. The cast is fantastic… Sally Field, Ron Rifkin, Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths… they’re just ALL incredible. The siblings and really, the entire family, all have amazing chemistry and their interactions are genuine and real. The storylines get complicated and messy but they never become too dramatic and “soap-y.”
It doesn’t hurt that there’s some great eye candy in the form of Balthazar Getty too. Love him! It’s funny, though, I’ve watched about half of the episodes that have aired and I don’t have a favorite character yet. Right now I love all 5 siblings equally. They each have their little quirks that make me love them. I do know that I’m not crazy about the matriarch of the family, Nora Walker (Sally Field’s character). She means well but she can be so aggravating.

Anyway, I’m so excited Emily VanCamp is joining the cast of this show because I don’t think I would have started watching it otherwise. It’s a great find. You should watch it too!

I’m also excited that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is going to be on TV soon. His show, The Tudors, premieres April 1 on Showtime. I saw this picture and swooned…

TOO BAD I DON’T HAVE SHOWTIME. Grrr.

evc on tv again!

I’m so excited that Emily VanCamp’s going to be on TV again! I just adore her. Too bad she’s going to be on Brothers and Sisters, a show that I don’t currently watch. But I love EVC so I’ll check it out… at least all the episodes are available on ABC.com so I can catch up before her episodes start airing.

So I was watching American Idol earlier and a contestant named Jenry totally caught my eye. He’s easy on the eyes (read: HOT) and has a decent voice. Niiiice. BUT. He’s only 16, which means… jailbait. I feel dirty.

vm 310

Well, damn. After the first 9 episodes of the season, I thought I was done with Veronica Mars.

I guess I was wrong.

Show Me the Monkey was a FUN episode — great start to the murder mystery, lots of interaction between the characters (love the Veronica/Mac/Parker trio), and it actually made me care about Veronica again. Good stuff.

The only bad thing about the episode was the lack of Wallace. 🙁

My favorite exchange of the episode had to be —
Veronica: “A monkey… as in…”
Mac: “Touch my.”

BWAH! That was the best.

step up + smallville

Eeek. I don’t know if anyone noticed but I had a bit of a domain scare this past week. I arrived home on Wednesday to check on my blog and found one of those dreaded domain placeholder pages. I forgot to renew my domain. !!! Luckily, my registrar let me renew it even if I was past the deadline. Phew. What a way to celebrate e-l.net’s 5th anniversary. YAY!

Anyway, I saw the movie Step Up recently and while it was mediocre (the dancing saved the movie for me), I must say that Channing Tatum is HOT and I would gladly watch this movie over and over just for him. 😀 It also had a pretty rocking soundtrack, mostly Pop and R&B songs. Here are a few of my favorites for your downloading pleasure —

Ciara ft. Chamillionaire – Get Up
Petey Pablo – Show Me the Money
Samantha Jade – Step Up
Chris Brown – Say Goodbye (this one’s a “slow jam,” if you will)

I also watched the Justice Leage episode of Smallville and it was SO MUCH FUN. Cheesy but totally awesome. I haven’t watched the 4 episodes prior to this one (they’re saved on the Tivo) but that didn’t matter. It wasn’t really necessary to follow the storyline. The BEST part was when the Justice Leaguers walked away in slow motion from the explosion. SQUEE. I would totally watch a spinoff. (And apparently I’m not the only one — someone already put together credits for a JL-centric show). But does this mean that Oliver Queen/The Green Arrow is officially gone? I LOVE HIM. HE ROCKS. And he’s a big reason why I’m enjoying this season. Please tell me he’ll still be around. I don’t know if SMVL will still hold my attention without him.

golden globes + idol

The Minneapolis auditions of American Idol were SO BAD. And I loved every minute of it. Hehe. But I really can’t wait until they get to Hollywood. I get tired of the auditions after a few episodes.

I also watched my recording of the Golden Globes from last night. I watched the 3+ hour show in about 50 minutes. Thank goodness for that fast-forward button. 😀 I was incredibly happy that America Ferrara and Meryl Streep won. America was so beautiful and her speech so heartfelt and Meryl Streep, as always, was eloquent and classy. I adore both of those ladies. My favorite speeches, though, have to go to Hugh Laurie (he’s so subtly hilarious) and Sasha Baron Cohen (OMG, his speech bordered on inappropriate but damn, I was in tears from laughing so hard). And maybe it’s just me but did anyone notice the completely opposite vibe from the casts of Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy? I sensed tension coming from the GA cast whereas the UB cast was so happy and everyone was clapping and hugging one another. They really seem like they enjoy working together. Plus, when Vanessa Williams bounded onto the stage from out of nowhere, they all cheered and gave her a group hug. Just… aww.

In Globes fashion talk, Reese Witherspoon and Hayden Panettiere had my favorite “looks” of the night.

photo meme, part 1

I’m finally getting to the photo meme from a few weeks back. *blush* This is only a third of it (I STILL have yet to tidy up my apartment enough to take pictures)…

Favorite Shoes requested by Alyson

My Classic Short Uggs in Chestnut are my most favorite shoes. EVER. They’re not exactly fashionable but they are *so* warm and toasty. I wear them to and from work every day in the winter. I think I may invest in a Chocolate-colored pair.

Favorite Handbag requested by Alyson

I didn’t care for Louis Vuitton pieces until this year. Then all of a sudden, I HAD TO HAVE this bag. Going to Paris made me pull the trigger since the prices there (even with the exchange rate) are less expensive than in the US. It’s a little hard to get in and out of but I love that it complements any outfit really well.

*N Sync Dolls requested by Robyn

Rob gave me a complete set of *N Sync marionette dolls back in 2000 when I wanted anything and everything *N Sync. I displayed them on my bookshelf and all but the Lance doll remained unopened in their boxes. (I couldn’t resist opening one of them, hehe). Anyway, when Rob and I moved to our smaller apartment in 2005, there just wasn’t any room for them. I had to box them up and put them in storage. I did keep my JC Chasez bobblehead out, though, so that’s what’s shown in the picture above. It’s on top of my desk. 😀

My Christmas Tree requested by Carmen

YAY!!! My Christmas tree! I love it so. I always decorate my tree in cream and gold… it just looks so elegant, I think. The tree’s actually still up. I was too lazy to take it down on New Year’s Day. :/ I’ll have to do that this weekend. It makes me sad because it means the holidays are officially over. The second picture is a close-up of the tree, specifically the pretty, pretty Eiffel Tower ornament I got in Paris.

And here’s a bonus picture of the Christmas trees that were in my office building’s lobby…

The pink and red theme is also really beautiful. I loved the sight of them every weekday morning.

That’s it for now… More to come this weekend. That’s the plan. 🙂

AAAGGGGHHHHH!!! The OC has been cancelled. Only another 2 months of episodes. *sniff*

happy feet + casino royale

It was a movie weekend…

I saw Happy Feet yesterday. The penguins were so darn cute! I *loved* Baby Mumble and his tap-happy feet. The singing and dancing was so much fun. But honestly, I was a little disappointed with the ending.

I wasn’t disappointed with the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix trailer, though! SQUEE. Harry cut his hair! I hated that long hairdo in the last movie. It was a short trailer but there were some great sneak peeks of Sirius, Bellatrix, and the Harry/Cho kiss. It was pretty darn awesome. I CAN’T WAIT!

I also went to see Casino Royale today. Aside from the looooong poker scene in the middle of the movie, I thought it was a good movie. I didn’t think I would like Daniel Craig as the new Bond but I totally did. He had a refreshing take on the character. He wasn’t slick the way Pierce Brosnan’s Bond was; instead he was kind of rough around the edges. I also really liked Vesper Lynd (aka the “Bond Girl”) mostly because she *wasn’t* the typical Bond Girl. Go see it! It’s a fun few hours at the movies.

I caught the premiere of Daybreak this past week and really liked it. Taye Diggs gets to start each of his repeating days in bed. Topless. 😀 Seriously though, I thought it was a great twist that any injuries and bruises he sustains carries over into the next day. It seems to confirm that the repeating days are actually happening and Brett’s not dreaming or hallucinating. Anyway, I’m intrigued. And I’ll keep watching.

I’m SO looking forward to the short 3-day work week. Awesome.

paris day 3

I want to go to Disneyland. I have absolutely no idea why. I just do. So just a minute ago, I took a look at the ticket prices online. HOLY MOLY. When did it get so expensive?!? $63! And that’s just for 1 day and 1 park. If you want to park hop or whatever, it’s $83 for 1 day. Oh well, I’d still love to go. Maybe when I’m in Southern CA for the holidays…

Had an okay weekend. I got a stomachache on Saturday so I spent a good part of the day in bed. Ugh. I caught up on The OC (really, really liking this season so far) and I watched The Break-Up. HATED IT. There were some funny moments and Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn were good but the whole storyline was… EH. I also went to see Borat today, which was pretty hilarious. I wouldn’t say I *liked* it, though. The highlight of my weekend was getting an iPod nano! Rob got me a 4gb red one as a belated birthday present. I’m going to use this one for the gym. 😀

More Paris…
Sun, October 15: Day 3
After our Parisian breakfast of croissants and coffee (I must have gained about 10 pounds from all the bread I ate!), we were off to Montmartre to see Sacre Coeur. (Montmartre is the northern part of the city where many artists reside). We took the Metro (we’re total pros now) and got off at Anvers. I was actually hoping the Abesses stop would be open by now (it’s been closed for renovations). That was the Metro stop featured in the movie Amelie and I just wanted to see it! Maybe next time. 😀 We walked up a hill (huffing and puffing the whole time) that took us to the bottom of the steps leading to Sacre Coeur. We took a breather by the carousel and prepared ourselves for the stairs. I guess we could have taken the funicular up but we were feeling adventurous. As we headed over to the stairs, we were approached by the men who try and stop you to tie a bracelet around your wrist. If they happen to get you, you’re tied to them and have to give them money to be released. They try to convince you to take the bracelet by saying it’s free. We walked away from them quickly (though one of them totally grabbed Rob’s arm) and started the hike up the stairs. It took us a little while (we stopped every time there was a bit of platform) but it was worth it when we arrived at the top. The basilica is absolutely gorgeous and the view from up there was wonderful. We were overlooking all of Paris! We went inside and lit a candle for my mom and walked around admiring the statues and sculptures. As we exited, I noticed that they had those machines that make impressions on coins for souvenirs. Is it just me or is that the *last* thing you’d expect to see in a church? I’ve made them before but at an amusement park!

We walked down to Place du Tertre to check out the artists’ square. There were some absolutely gorgeous watercolor paintings of the Arc and the Eiffel Tower and I was incredibly tempted to purchase one but I decided against it since they were pricey (between 25-50 Euros) and I didn’t know how the heck I was going to take it with me on the plane. We continued our walk through Montmartre and into the Pigalle area (Red Light District) on the way to the Moulin Rouge. Since it was Sunday, most of the shops were closed (so weird to me!) but we did find one sex shop that happened to be open. We went in but there was nothing exciting. LOL. Just a few more steps down was the Moulin Rouge! It was so fun to see the famous dance hall and its iconic windmill.

Our next stop for the day was the Marais. We made our way there via the Metro. As we walked up to the street level, we found ourselves at the Place de la Bastille. There’s nothing left of the prison at all so there’s nothing to see. Across the street, though, stood the Colonne de Juillet (memorial to commemorate the deaths in the street battles of 1830) and also the Opera National de Paris Bastille. The Opera completely stood out because it’s made of glass… I actually didn’t like it at all. We continued walking over to Place des Vosges. It’s a beautiful park that’s perfectly symmetrical (nine houses on each side of the square). I just loved all the parks/gardens in Paris. They’re so well-maintained, gorgeous and peaceful.

By this time, we were so hungry. We spotted a Quick fast food restaurant (like the McDonald’s of France) and ordered Supreme Cheese burgers meals. It wasn’t really a very good burger (my all time favorite fast food burger is from In-n-Out) but it came with Coke! And it didn’t cost us $5! Heh. After lunch, we walked along the Rue de Rivoli down to Ile de la Cite. We sat in the Square du Jean XIII, which is a beautiful garden behind Notre Dame. I think I love the back of Notre Dame even more than the front. The flying buttresses are spectacular. Guh.

I wanted to pick up a book to read for the plane ride home so we looked for the English bookstore Shakespeare & Co, which I knew was nearby. What a great little store! It’s TINY. It felt so homey and the employees are really friendly and give you recommendations on books and things to do in the area. I picked up The Time Traveler’s Wife, which a good friend had suggested to me. (I finished the book on the plane and didn’t like it :/).

By this time, we were absolutely exhausted from all the walking so we bought tickets for a 1 hr. sightseeing cruise on the Seine. We sat on top of the boat for a good vantage point of all the sights. The boat passed many of the monuments (D’Orsay, Conciergerie, Notre Dame, etc) but once we got to the Eiffel Tower, our camera battery died after just a few photos! GRRR. I was a bit surprised to see that the homeless population of Paris have tents set up all along the river banks. Some of them looked pretty permanent too. Looking back, though, I’m not sure why I was so shocked. Paris is a big city and all big cities have homeless problems. Still, it was a nice trip down the river and we got to rest our poor feet. After the cruise, we picked up gyros and banana/nutella crepes for dinner and headed back to the hotel for the night.

Up next: the Louvre!
