tv catch-up

I love October… because October means my birthday! Woot!

😀

I’m spending the weekend by myself (aaahhhh, alone time is so great) so I managed to do some TV catch-up. Possible spoilers ahead…

Gilmore Girls 1.02, Fight Face and 1.03, The UnGraduate
*yawn* There’s stuff going on but I am so bored. I’m waiting for something exciting to happen. And that does not include Rory getting a new hairdo (which I really, really like, actually) or doing anything involving the DAR. At least there was Lane! Finally. Very excited to see her even though I hate her storyline.

Alias 5.01, Prophet Five
%$#@! It better be a big fake-out or I will cry. I know Syd/Vaughn peaked in season 2 and never really got back on track but I can’t help it… I still adore them. And I’m so disappointed in this storyline. Why do they have to kill off all the people Syd loves? Danny, Francie, now Vaughn. 🙁 I was so sad when Vaughn was getting shot and Syd was trying to run over to him. Guh. Don’t even get me started on the whole double agent thing. Everything I loved about Vaughn is… GONE. I wish I could say that I’ll wash my hands of the show but I know I won’t. What is wrong with me?!?

Smallville 5.01, Arrival
Oooohhh, new credits! I like. But why is Erica Durance (yay, love Lois) before Allison Mack? They did that last season with Jensen Ackles coming before AM… why do they that? She’s a series regular and has been since the beginning, GEESH. I have to admit that I didn’t pay close attention to what was going on last season so I’m a little confused about… well, everything. Like Lex. Was it just me or was his turn to evil a little abrupt? And what the heck is wrong with Lionel? I’ve been planning on getting the s4 DVDs — I suppose I should do that sooner than later. Anyway, the Brainiac’s (squee, James Marsters!) introduction at the end was very cool. I’m excited to see him on this show. He should be a great addition.

Reunion, 1988
This show pains me. I wanted so badly for it to be good (partly because the concept intrigued me and partly because of Will Estes) but… it’s not. After the premiere, it’s been on a steady decline. And since it’s on a short hiatus for baseball, I don’t know that I’ll still care when it returns. I may just resort to spoilers so I can find out who died and who’s responsible. It’ll be less painful than watching the show, that’s for sure.

I wish the WB would stop showing promos for Related. I DON’T need another show to watch. But knowing me, I’ll probably tune in for the premiere. Let’s hope it’s completely awful so I can quickly forget about it. 😛

Still have The OC and Everwood to catch up on… but I should probably go to sleep since it’s 3 AM! HEE.

top model

It’s like the third week of the fall TV season and I’m ALREADY BEHIND. 2 of episodes of Gilmore Girls and 1 episode of The OC are sitting on the Tivo… EEK. I have some serious catching up to do this weekend.

🙂

Possible spoilers below…
America’s Next Top Model
Caught the last half of the 2-hour premiere thanks to the Tuesday reruns on UPN. There’s so much Miss Jay this season. I LOVE IT! He definitely makes up for the lack of Janice. Without him, the judging panel would be a total snoozefest. I was a little surprised at the elimination but I’ve finally come to realize that Tyra gets rid of whoever she feels like and not who actually *should* go.

Supernatural 1.03
I still watch this show with my hand partially covering my eyes. I can’t help it — I’m a scaredy cat. Plus, the haunting music doesn’t help. Anyway, I thought the “Monster of the Week” storyline was a little confusing and vague (I mean, WHY were all the killings accelerated? I didn’t get it) but I really enjoyed Amy Acker. I’m sad that her character was only around for this episode. She and Dean could have had something! I can find a ‘ship on ANY show, hehe. But my favorite ‘ship on the show is definitely Sam/Dean. Their brotherly banter is what keeps me watching every week. You know, I never really cared for Jared Padalecki as an actor before (I liked him on Gilmore Girls though he was a little bland) but I think he’s really great on this show. He’s becoming very watchable.

Lost 1.02, Adrift
This episode was so frustrating! I guess it was all the backtracking. I know it was necessary to go back and fill in the story introduced in the premiere but… ARGH. I’m just too impatient. 😛 Anyway, I totally fell in love with Michael and Sawyer in this episode. “What are you gonna do? Splash me?” HEE! They care. Even if it is begrudgingly. It was such a bittersweet moment when they saw the island and called it “home.” Is Michelle Rodriguez finally going to appear next week?!? Can’t wait!

Veronica Mars
SQUEE. I LOVED the premiere. (Well, I do have 1 nitpick and her name is Naima. UGH. Didn’t like her on America’s Next Top Model and I sure didn’t care for her on VM. Why was she there?!). I want to watch the episode again but I have to say that since I pretty much ‘ship Veronica with everyone — Duncan, Logan, Leo — this episode totally made my night! LOL. I also really liked seeing more of Dick (“My name is Richaaard.”) and the introduction of Charisma Carpenter’s character was classic. I’m not sure how I feel about the season-long “mystery” yet — I guess after Lilly’s murder nothing will compare. It seems interesting enough but I wonder if it’ll really keep our attention for 20+ episodes?

Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray are now separated. They’ve only been married since April! That’s awful. 🙁 But I can’t help but wonder what this means for their characters on One Tree Hill. EEEK.

tivo 2

I turned down the job offer.

It was a great opportunity but I realized that I wouldn’t be as happy. It sounds a little silly but right now, I’m young and that’s really important to me. I was hesitant about the job from the very beginning so I’m positive that I made the right decision. (I really need to learn to listen to my instinct rather than waiting until the last minute). Thanks to all of you for your support! 🙂

While watching the Desperate Housewives season premiere, all I could think about was… Mehcad Brooks is HOT. But I don’t know about his storyline. It’s… um, weird? To say the least.

“I know she’s a bitch. But she’s family. That makes her our bitch.” — Best quote of the episode. From Andrew no less.

Also caught the Grey’s Anatomy premiere. I think I’ve flipped my loyalties. I used to love Cristina and feel indifferent to Meredith but now… I’m not sure. Meredith kicked ass by standing her ground with Dr. McDreamy (heh) and Cristina disappointed me with the way she treated Dr. Burke. Especially by not telling him that she’s pregnant. I still don’t like Alex. But I can see an Izzie/Alex relationship on the horizon. Damn it.

“You nasty. That’s why you got syphilis.” — Best quote of the NIGHT. Courtesy of Dr. Bailey. She’s so awesome.

Rob and I solved the problem of watching 10 billion shows on Thursday nights (damn networks). We bought another Tivo today. Hee! We are such TV geeks.

So… the CSI premiere.

emmys

Ahhh, premiere week. I think I love you.

Some comments on the Monday shows…

Kitchen Confidential
I liked this A LOT. It screamed “PILOT” but it has potential. Bradley Cooper rocked (naturally) and it’s nice to see that Nicholas Brendon and John Francis Daley (Freaks and Geeks forever!) can still bring the funny. But it seems I was right about Bonnie Sommerville. She got on my last nerve. I can totally see her character getting into a relationship with Jack too… ACK. I don’t know if I can handle her in a central storyline. Anyway, does anyone know why John Cho was dropped from the main cast? I thought he was so good!

Las Vegas
I haven’t seen this show in *ages* and I’ve missed Josh Duhamel. I figured I could Tivo Prison Break for one night. I loved how Danny had to travel around Las Vegas rounding up all the old employees (plus Mike working as a valet in an ELF costume!). Too bad it took me a while to figure out *why* they all needed to be brought together in the first place (and also what the heck Lara Flynn Boyle was doing on the show). Now, I know Danny and Mary (ugh, I *still* don’t like her — her character does nothing!) are “meant to be” or whatever but I would really love to see him with Sam. I thought Josh Duhamel and Vanessa Marcil were *gorgeous* together in the scene where he picked her up (ahh, wishful thinking). I was sad to hear that Nessa is gone… they couldn’t have gotten rid of Delinda instead? *sigh* I really enjoy this show (it’s total mindless fluff) but I don’t think I’ll be watching it regularly. It’s another one of those shows I’d rather follow on DVD.

So the Emmys were pretty bad, huh? Each year I look forward to it and each year I’m disappointed. My commentary from the other night’s show…

oc + reunion

So… TV.

The O.C.
The O.C. premiere was shiny. And pretty. And I liked it (plus the music selection was positively amazing for this episode). It looks like the show is returning to the relationships of the core characters, which is just fine with me. I thought last season suffered because there were too many characters that screamed “short term plot device.” The one character I will miss is Trey… admittedly I wasn’t his biggest fan but why’d he have to leave? 🙁 I was hoping to see more of his relationship with Ryan. There’s not nearly enough “Chino” in Ryan anymore. I already don’t like the Kirstin stalker storyline. Ehhh.

Reunion
The first thing I thought when I saw Will Estes was that American Dreams really isn’t coming back this season. *sob*

Once I was over that, I realized that this is a really bad show. Really interesting concept (I do love a good mystery) but horrible execution. The cheesy dialogue didn’t help. Or the unsympathetic characters. I especially disliked Aaron and Craig. Didn’t care for any of the girls (Amanda Righetti on ANOTHER FOX show — they really seem to love her). Only liked Will because it was Will Estes. You know, the residual American Dreams love and all. I’ll probably watch a few more episodes… until CSI and Everwood start. It’s in a tough time slot so let’s see if it survives. Though I doubt it.

Anyway, after seeing Will Estes, I was feeling nostalgic for American Dreams so I popped in my DVDs this weekend. I watched/listened to the commentaries on the pilot and the finale and I think I adore the cast even more than I did before. They all resemble their characters in some way, they’re all good friends, and they all absolutely love their show. Awww. On the pilot commentary with Brittany Snow (Meg) and Vanessa Lengies (Roxanne), they would quote the dialogue verbatim, even poking fun at themselves that they had watched the pilot numerous times. They were also fawning over the scene where JJ blows a kiss to Beth who is watching his football practice from the sidelines. OMGSOCUTE! I love those two. *sniff* I SO miss this show.

I really need to do a Book Update soon. Too bad I’m not even close to 50 books. Not even at HALF yet. How embarrassing.

addition to fall TV schedule

Oh crap. I forgot Veronica Mars on my fall TV schedule below. !!! I have no idea how that happened.

Okay, so VM is on Wednesdays at 9:00 and premieres 9/28. Got it. I even placed it at the very top of my Tivo’s season pass list so that unless the Tivo dies, it will always get recorded.

Many thanks to Mazzie for catching that error. Crisis averted. Phew.

fall TV schedule

My fall TV schedule kinda sucks. It’s so heavily weighted on Thursdays. I guess the Tivo and VCR are going to get lots of exercise this year…

Sunday
09:00: Desperate Housewives (premieres 9/25)
I’m looking forward to the addition of Alfre Woodard. Not to mention her hottie son, played by Mehcad Brooks. He seriously made me do a double take in the finale last season. YUM.
10:00: Grey’s Anatomy (premieres 9/25)
I was going to put The West Wing on the schedule but I haven’t seen the last season and a half so it’ll probably be difficult for me to figure out what’s what. I follow TWW much better on DVD anyway.

Monday
08:30: Kitchen Confidential (premieres 9/19)
I’m not really a fan of sitcoms but I’ll make an exception for Bradley Cooper. *sigh* I’m a little worried about Bonnie Sommerville, though. She annoyed me to no end on both Friends and The O.C.. :/ Let’s hope she doesn’t make me want to claw my eyes out on this show.
09:00: Prison Break
So far, so good. If it doesn’t work out, I’m only watching for Wentworth Miller anyway.

Tuesday
08:00: Gilmore Girls (premieres 9/13)
Last season really turned this show around for me. I didn’t have high expectations for it considering the disappointment of season 4 (barring the Rory/Dean affair). But I found it to be one of the more engaging seasons. I can’t wait for Luke’s response to Lorelai’s proposal and despite the fact that I dislike Logan, I want to know if his relationship with Rory has continued and how it may be heightening her estrangement from Lorelai. It definitely looks to be a promising season.
08:00: America’s Next Top Model
My Wednesdays are overloaded so I’ll be watching/recording the Tuesday reruns. I hope this cycle isn’t as predictable as the last.
09:00: Supernatural (premieres 9/13)
Jensen Ackles. Should there be any other reason?!

Wednesday
08:00: One Tree Hill (premieres 10/5)
This one’s not definite yet. I still have to watch the finale (which has been sitting on my hard drive since May — that’s how motivated I am to watch it) and then I’ll decide. Last season really killed all the characters for me. Damn you, Mark Schwann.
08:00: The Apprentice: Martha Stewart (premieres 9/21)
So I like Martha Stewart.
09:00: Lost (premieres 9/21)
What happened to Walt? What’s inside the hatch? What do the numbers mean? I need answers.

Thursday
THURSDAYS SUCK. TOO MANY SHOWS, TOO LITTLE TIME.
08:00: Alias (premieres 9/29)
Vaughn better not be a double agent. Or I will be so pissed.
08:00: Smallville (premieres 9/29)
08:00: The O.C. (premieres 9/8)
I love this show so much. Please, please, please tell me it’s recovered from its sophomore slump.
08:00: Everybody Hates Chris (premieres 9/22)
Holy cow. This show looks freaking hilarious. I’ve seen the same promo many, many times this summer and it never fails to make me laugh.
09:00: CSI (premieres 9/22)
09:00: Everwood (premieres 9/29)
Ephram cut his hair!!!
09:00: Reunion (premieres 9/8)
The concept intrigues me. I’ll definitely be giving it a try.

Friday
I still don’t watch TV on Fridays. Not that there’s anything to watch anyway. I mean, Ghost Whisperer? No thanks.

Saturday
See above.
Huh. I just looked over my TV schedule. There’s a lot of shows… I may have to cut back. Damn.

OMG. I want this Harry Potter iPod. I would totally buy it if it wasn’t bundled with the audio books. GRR.

laguna beach

It was a lazy weekend for me… I just love it.

I met Nicola yesterday (Rob and I took her to buy a TV) and she’s every bit as awesome as you would expect. It’s funny because I was kinda nervous about meeting her so when I opened the car door for her to get in, I wasn’t paying attention and rammed the door right into her leg. How embarrassing. Anyway, it’s so nice to finally be able to put a face to a name! 🙂

I had a Laguna Beach season 1 marathon yesterday. If you’re a fan, you definitely need to rent the DVDs, specifically the third disc. There’s lots of deleted scenes, interviews (from before and after the filming of the show) and featurettes (I especially love the one where LC shows off her house — damn, she is loaded). I don’t really have many friends who watch this show but I have some comments…

I love Kristin. There. I admit it. I know she’s snobby and loud and probably thinks a little too highly of herself… but she has fun and doesn’t care about what other people think of her. She’s great for bringing in the drama. That doesn’t mean I side with her regarding the Kristin/Stephen/LC triangle, though (I do, however, prefer Kristin and Stephen as a couple to Stephen and LC). I think Stephen’s to blame for that mess. He obviously wants to be with Kristin but can’t seem to let go of LC as the rebound girl. UGH. It makes me nuts. I can’t understand why LC just won’t move on.

Can’t stand the “brunettes,” Morgan and Christina. Why are they always talking about morals?! And is it completely horrible that I laughed when Christina had her Broadway audition? I hope she doesn’t actually believe she can make a living out of singing. :/

Love Lo and Trey — the 2 of them were like the unexpected stars for me. Trey because he was so mellow and Lo because she was so damn funny (without really meaning to be).

I’ve missed a few episodes of the second season but I can definitely say I prefer the cast of the first season far more. The second season brought Jason (total player — UGH), Alex M (awful girl who asks another girl’s boyfriend to the formal — who DOES that?), Jessica (poor girl lets Jason walk ALL over her), Taylor (Booorring), and Casey (I’m not convinced that she’s not actually a human Barbie doll). These new kids don’t hold a candle to the original cast.

OK. Enough crappy reality show talk. I need to get my fall TV schedule in order. I’ll save that for my next entry.

Last but not least — I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to Alie! 🙂
