dad’s bday + bachelorette

I’m here… somewhere.

My Dad’s birthday party last weekend was a hit. He was totally surprised — I thought he was going to start crying from the emotion of it all! That’s pretty amazing considering that he is NOT the type of person to outwardly show what he’s feeling. Awww.

And then this past weekend was my AWESOME bachelorette weekend. It was definitely what I needed after a terrible Friday at work. I really have the best girlfriends ever — they completely surprised me with the activities and events they had planned throughout the weekend. I am so lucky to have such thoughtful friends in my life. *sniff*

Rob’s going to be in Vegas this weekend for his bachelor party so I’ll be sure to take time out of working on wedding tasks to share some pics of these recent events with all of you. 😉

bridal shower

OMG. I haven’t blogged in over a week. Life has been moving so quickly that I can barely keep up. It’s exhausting.

So in my last entry I mentioned that I had my bridal shower last weekend… it was awesome! I feel so blessed to have such amazing friends and family. Not to mention the most wonderful Maid of Honor (aka my cousin Riz) ever.

Look at what she put together for ME!

The FOOD! All prepared by my cousin and my aunt. I did help a little with the grocery shopping. 🙂

The FAVORS! These consisted of chocolate lollipops in the shape of daisies and a variety of truffles. YUM-O! My cousin also made these candies from scratch. She is crazy.

GIFTS! It was a loosely themed “recipe” shower where the ladies were supposed to bring a recipe to correspond with their gift. I received lots of fun kitchen gadgets… I am hoping to put them to good use. EEEK. I am definitely not very good in the kitchen. :/

My cousin and me at the end of the day.

And yes, I realize that was the third time I wore that blue dress in the month of June. HEE! 😀

Fast forward to this weekend. I had 4 whole days off from work. So awesome. You don’t even know. My best friend Carmen came to visit and rather than go out and do 4th of July activities, I held her hostage in my apartment and put her to work stamping wedding favor tags, adhering labels, and gluing the menus.

BWAHAHAHA. It was so productive!

Now I’m looking ahead to this coming weekend where I’ll be in LA AGAIN for my dad’s big 60th surprise birthday party. PHEW. So much stuff going on right now! And no, I will not be wearing that blue dress again. 😉

engagement photos

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!

Our FABULOUS photographers Ray and Erwin of Apertura have blogged some of the photos from our engagement session.

OMG. I LOVE THEM. I kinda have funny expressions in some of them but the angles of the shots, the colors, the light… aaahhhh, so pretty.

Here’s a teaser…

Now go HERE to see the rest.

SO EXCITING!

invitations

Oh Lakers. You broke Rob’s heart. 🙁 Boo on you.

I sent one of our extra invitations to “Mickey and Minnie Mouse” and look what we got from them! HEE.

I also sent an invitation to the Governor so we’ll see if he sends us anything. 😛

Anyway, RSVPs for the wedding are steadily rolling in so I think it’s time to share my beloved invitations.

As much as I wanted to “DIY” the invitations, I didn’t feel 100% comfortable enough with my Illustrator/PhotoShop skills to take on such a big task. I feel like invitations set the tone for a wedding and I wanted them to be perfect. Without breaking the bank. So I worked with stationery designer Prim and Pixie on the graphics, wording, and execution (from the pocketfolder to the belly band). And then Rob and I gave them just a bit more “oomph” by adding tags for the guests’ names and wrapping everything in a handy dandy mailer box.

PICS! Click for bigger.

Some of the boxes wrapped, labeled, and waiting to be mailed out. If you look closely, you’ll see that we used Disney and Marvel Superhero stamps! We also had some Star Wars stamps but I don’t have any pictures of those boxes. I love little details like this.

The open box. Instead of writing our guests’ names on the envelope, we made little tags instead. Rob was in charge of punching them out and hammering the eyelet into the top. He’s the best.

The pocketfolder held closed by a personalized belly band. What you can’t see in these pics is that all the paper has a metallic sheen to it. So sparkly and pretty.

And finally, the invitation and inserts. I love how everything has its place. SQUEE. The whole package makes me so happy.

I hope our guests enjoyed receiving them as much as we had fun putting them together. 😀

bears!

Been a busy bee lately.

My cousin Rizza (aka Maid of Honor) was in town for the weekend to help with a wedding project. Rob and I wanted to incorporate our alma mater, UC Berkeley, into our wedding so we decided to name our reception tables after campus buildings. And we thought we would go the extra mile and attempt to get our photos taken in front of them. (We’re dorks, I know). I asked for Riz’s help with this because she’s a photographer and it was an excuse to get her to come visit me. 😀

So on Saturday, we spent 4 hours walking all over campus posing like crazy people in front of over 25 buildings (we won’t really have that many tables — I wanted to have more options just in case). Riz has to go through all the photos and process our selections but I thought I would share a random one we took…

These cute bears are on the North side of campus. Awww.

It was a really tiring day but good practice for our engagement photo shoot this coming Sunday. FUN!

hello lover

I had my first bridal gown fitting today. It’s even more beautiful than I remember… the beading, the neckline, the back of the dress… SQUEE. Today was all about the alterations — the dress has to be shortened, the 10 point bustle sewn in (I’m going to need some serious help from my bridesmaids on this one), and the bodice taken in a little (I had no idea I lost a few inches in this area but YAY). Sadly, I still look like a freaking linebacker thanks to my ginormous arms. *sigh*
One thing I had to bring to the fitting were my shoes. Since I splurged on my dress, I didn’t even think about purchasing designer shoes. I just wanted a pair that were silver, comfortable, and affordable. I found a few pairs at Nordstrom that would do the trick. One night, a few months back, I happened to show them to Rob and he casually mentioned that he had been planning to buy me a pair of Jimmy Choos or Manolos for the wedding. UMMM. !!! YES PLEASE. So of course, I was on a mission and found this gorgeous pair…

Diesel posing with THE BOX!

the 2 w’s

The 2 W’s have taken over my life… Work and the Wedding.

Work has been absolutely crazy lately. It’s the dreaded “planning” season, which means looooooong days. SUCKS to be me. But our team just got approval to hire an Assistant so that’ll definitely help whenever we find the time to actually recruit and interview candidates. :/ I really, really, really want my hours to be “normal.”

But the craziness doesn’t stop at work. Oh no. I get home and go into Wedding mode. Rob and I spent the past 2 weeks working on getting all our invitations out the door. We finally got them all mailed out over the weekend. YAY! Once I get confirmation that our out of state guests have received theirs, I’ll share pics!
Now I’ve moved on to other projects — like designing the programs and menus, figuring out if I can handle putting together a slideshow to play at the reception or not, selecting our ceremony music, etc etc etc. OMG.

Not going to think about ALL THAT STUFF right now.

Anyway, this past Saturday I went to my very first Bridal Shower for my good friend Shirley. Despite the heat, it was a really fun-filled day. Her bridesmaids did a great job coordinating everything. We all met at Shirley’s place for breakfast and introductions, then we went to Napa for massages (mmm, so nice), and finally ended up at V. Sattui winery for food, games, and gifts! Shirls, I can’t wait for your wedding — 1 more month! 😀

In TV news, I have not been keeping up with any current shows, except for Lost. It’s too hard. I did manage to get caught up with Gossip Girl (minus the season finale) while I was working on the invitations. But I have tons of One Tree Hill, Brothers and Sisters, Smallville, Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy episodes saved on the Tivo. I don’t know guys. It looks like I might have to start deleting these. Smallville will probably be the first to go.

Too bad I’ll probably have even more TV piling up because I was reading the new show descriptions from the recent Upfronts and I’m totally eyeing the new 90210 series that the CW picked up (WHAT? I grew up with 90210!) and OF COURSE, the new JJ Abrams show, Fringe, that Joshua Jackson is starring in. The show doesn’t really look *that* appealing but whatever, PACEY!!!

😀

I’m delirious and it’s past my bedtime.

dance lessons

So Rob and I decided to take dance lessons. HEE. We thought it would make us a little more comfortable during our first dance at the wedding. 🙂

Our initial consultation was this past Saturday. Our instructors, Karen and Michael were recommended to us by our recently married friends Jimmy and Eleen. They were awesome! We shared our first dance music with them (should I reveal what it is? :D), they made suggestions about the dance style they recommend (rumba), and then they taught us a few basic steps, turns, and transitions. It was a lot of fun! But hard work — there’s so much more to think about when you’re dancing with a partner. Rob was totally sweating after the hour was up. Hehe.

When we got home that night, we tried to practice in our itty bitty living room and found that we had already forgotten most of what we learned. OOPS.

Our first official lesson is in a few weeks — let’s hope we pay better attention. Or we might end up looking like crazies in front of all our family and friends! 😛

intj + isfj

I’m back from my long weekend in LA. And of course, I return to find that a stinky virus hit a ton of Coppermine sites — one of which is CreekCaps.com. UGH. A few people have emailed me about the problem and it’ll probably take me a few days to get the site cleaned up. I so don’t want to do this right now. Don’t these people have better things to do than mess with personal sites?!? I mean, REALLY. GAWD. Huge thanks to Mandy at Josh-Jackson.net for letting me know about the attacks.

What a pain.

Anyway.

Rob and I had a good weekend in LA visiting family and meeting with our wedding vendors. Here’s a quick rundown…

Saturday
In the morning, I visited Candi Merle, a super popular SoCal veil maker, to discuss veils (obviously). Trying on veils made me feel even more “bridal” than trying on dresses. I tried on a bunch of options from short to looooooong. The short veils seemed to make me look even shorter than I already am and the really looooooong ones had way too much fabric for me to handle. I settled on one that cascades along the side and just barely touches the floor. SQUEE. It’s supposed to arrive in a few weeks. I can’t wait to prance around the apartment in it. 😀 Just kidding. Kind of.

That night we had dinner with Rob’s friends at Hometown Buffet in honor of a late friend’s birthday. The buffet was nothing spectacular but they had some amazing cornbread. Mmm. Too bad they ran out before I had the chance to snag another piece. I think that was a sign that I should be scaling back on the carbs. 😛
We also opened the presents we’ve received so far — they’re all being delivered to Rob’s parent’s house since there is just no room here. Our friends are such generous people. *sniff* Here’s Rob with the Kitchenaid Mixer! I never thought we’d actually get this…

Sunday
Rob and I had our first Marriage Prep class. A 4 hour session on a Sunday! But as much as we were dreading it, I really feel like we got a lot out of it. We started off with the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, which is a personality test designed to tell you about your yourself. I discovered that I am an ISFJ (quiet, likes order, good at responsibilities, thoughtful) and Rob is an INTJ (analytical, logical, mentally quick). The descriptions fit us perfectly. We learned how our personality types work together and were, again, totally blown away by the accuracy of the advice. For example, with my personality, I need more affection from Rob so it is suggested that he smile and look at me lovingly, especially when seeing me for the first time. BWAH! But totally on point. Seriously.

Next we took the FOCCUS, which is a survey of 189 questions(!) designed to help facilitate discussion between engaged couples. This totally made me realize that while we’re on the same page with regards to most issues, there are still some things we need to talk about, like religion and family planning. Who knew that getting married isn’t just planning a party? 😛

Finally, we had a private meeting with the Father officiating our wedding to go over the structure of the ceremony. OMG. This was the meeting that gave me the whole “butterflies” feeling. Choosing which vows we wanted to read, practicing where we’re going to stand… it’s the weirdest thing, I tell you.

Monday
We had a couple of meetings in the morning — one with our fab coordinator Angel and another at our venue to go over the details, like linens, miscellaneous stationery, timeline of the reception, lighting, etc, etc, etc. OMG, you guys. There is SO MUCH STUFF to think about. Just a year ago I had NO IDEA. Wowzers.

As a sweet treat before the drive back to the Bay, we stopped by the Pinkberry in Huntington Beach. Here I am with a LARGE (don’t worry, Rob had some too) Original Yogurt with strawberries, Captain Crunch, and mochi. Heaven.

Why is my face so ROUND? UGH.

And that was my weekend! Phew. Sorry for all the rambling… I didn’t really want to monopolize my blog with wedding planning entries but I realized that it’s taking over my life right now and my blog should reflect that…

Random — I just noticed that Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii is being released next week. I’m SO going to get it. I love racing games. Even though I’m totally awful at them.

😀

it has begun

Not only has the wedding taken over our finances, it has started to take over our apartment.

There’s candles/votives, ribbon, candy, petals, initial letters… and a whole lot of other stuff. And this was *before* we received a huge delivery of boxes for our invitations. EEK.

Anyway, Rob, Diesel and I are heading down to LA tonight for another weekend of wedding meetings. It’s never-ending! Hope everyone has a great weekend.
