I failed at the 30 day meme yesterday because it was a crappy work day. People take things SO. DAMN. SERIOUSLY. Sometimes I just want to say that it’s not the end of the world. Geesh.
Anyway… let’s continue on…
Day 19 â A Talent of Yours
Oh hell, I don’t know. I’m 30… my talented days are behind me. ð I guess ballet *used* to be a talent of mine. I started dancing when I was 3 and trained until I was 14. I even considered becoming a professional ballerina despite the lack of job stability. I only stopped because my mom passed away and ballet was “our” thing. It wasn’t the same without her. Anyway, it’s been 3+ years since I took any classes so due to non-practice, I’m positive my skill and technique are definitely lacking.
Otherwise, I’ve got nothing. No other talents.
Day 20 â A Hobby of Yours
My biggest hobby is obviously my blog. I started it back in 2002 and attempted to design and code it myself. I look back at some of my old layouts and cringe. LOL. In my old age, I have become laaaazy and now rely on WordPress themes so I can concentrate on just writing entries.
I guess you can also count watching TV, scrapbooking, reading, and collecting Starbucks mugs as other hobbies. ð
Rob and I already have an awesome Canon camcorder that we bought for our trip to Australia but when I received a white Flip Mino camcorder for Christmas from a work vendor, I was so excited! It’s user-friendly, small enough to fit in my purse, and I can use it to capture random things I come across in my daily life. To test it out, Rob took this video of Diesel rolling over and playing dead (it’s a little shaky and the sound is low but Diesel’s still cute)…
Don’t laugh. Rob and I went to Target and I came home with a Snuggie. It’s pink! And totally awesome. ð
Day 16 â A Song that makes you cry
I’m much more of a visual person so music alone doesn’t really make me cry. But one song that comes close is another one that Rob and I used at our wedding — it’s the “Forrest Gump Suite” by Alan Silvestri. The first 2 minutes of the song is the section we used for my walk down the aisle. I was so calm before the wedding but when our guitarist started playing the this song and I stood at the top of the stairs looking down at Rob, I lost it and the tears started falling. Even now, I look back at that moment and I feel the emotions rushing back.
I don’t really read much fanfiction anymore. No time! When I do, though, it’s of the Dawson’s Creek variety. Particularly if it centers around Pacey and Joey. ð
It’s been awhile but one of my favorite DC fanfic authors is Juliet. I especially enjoyed Shadows of Starlight I, which is her re-imagining of season 3. It takes the best plots and dialogue of the season (Pacey and Joey!, “I remember everything”), gets rid of the bad (Eve, AJ), and fills in with characters and storylines that make sense. It’s an awesome fic. The only problem I have with it is that for some reason, many apostrophes and quotation marks seem to be missing so it’s a little difficult to read. But it’s definitely worth it.
I don’t read a lot of non-fiction. What can I say? I prefer “escaping” into the books I read. But as you know, I’m a huge Disneyland fan and I just *had* to read Mouse Tales: A Behind the Ears Look at Disneyland by David Koenig. It’s a quick and fun read filled with everything from the history of the park to hilarious insider gossip and even to the darker side of lawsuits and accidents. I have a tendency to romanticize all things Disney and even this book can’t tarnish the magic. Highly recommended for any Disney fan.
I missed a couple days. Oops. I was out all day on Saturday and was too exhausted yesterday to get in front of the computer.
So… I’ve actually been reading books! Last year was a total fail in that area but I’m off to a good start this year. YAY. One of the books I’ve read is Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris. It’s the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I wasn’t sure if I’d like this book (I favor light! and happy! type books) but I really, really did. I thought it was a satisfying combination of vampire fantasy, romance, humor (Bubba!) and suspense. Sookie is a slightly ditzy but engaging and spunky main character and she’s surrounded by a colorful cast of Southerners (including vampires) in Bon Temps. There’s one central plot in this book that drives the story forward and keeps you guessing until the end (at least it did for me… or maybe I just didn’t catch any of the clues). If you’re looking for a quick and easy read, I highly recommend this book. I received the first 3 books as a gift so I’m excited to get started on the second one.
This book also makes me want to check out True Blood again. I watched the first 2 or 3 (?) episodes a year ago at a friend’s house but since I didn’t have HBO, I never finished the first season. Still don’t but maybe I’ll rent the DVDs when I have time…
This is from my last trip to Disneyland during the holidays. There was finally NO LINE to take pictures in the tea cup so I hopped in. ð This is the closest I can get to the ride now — it makes me sick and dizzy so quickly. Getting older suuuucks.
OMG. Rob and I look so young here! LOL. This was taken at the beginning of my sophomore year in college (Sept ’98) in my dorm room. I think we were either going to or coming from a Hawaiian-themed party, which explains the aloha gear. NO, we were not dating yet. That didn’t happen for another 7 months. ð
