30 Day Meme: Days 19 & 20 – A Talent & Hobby of Yours

I failed at the 30 day meme yesterday because it was a crappy work day. People take things SO. DAMN. SERIOUSLY. Sometimes I just want to say that it’s not the end of the world. Geesh.

Anyway… let’s continue on…

Day 19 — A Talent of Yours

Oh hell, I don’t know. I’m 30… my talented days are behind me. 😛 I guess ballet *used* to be a talent of mine. I started dancing when I was 3 and trained until I was 14. I even considered becoming a professional ballerina despite the lack of job stability. I only stopped because my mom passed away and ballet was “our” thing. It wasn’t the same without her. Anyway, it’s been 3+ years since I took any classes so due to non-practice, I’m positive my skill and technique are definitely lacking.

Otherwise, I’ve got nothing. No other talents.

Day 20 — A Hobby of Yours

My biggest hobby is obviously my blog. I started it back in 2002 and attempted to design and code it myself. I look back at some of my old layouts and cringe. LOL. In my old age, I have become laaaazy and now rely on WordPress themes so I can concentrate on just writing entries.

I guess you can also count watching TV, scrapbooking, reading, and collecting Starbucks mugs as other hobbies. 😀

vacation

I *really* want to take a week off from work and go on vacation this year… but where to?

Rob and I tossed the idea of Hawaii around. But we’ve been to Oahu twice together already. We thought maybe we’d check out a different island (neither of us have been to the Big Island) but I’m not sold. I LOVE Hawaii but we were just there last year so I’m thinking we should try a different destination.
I really want to go to New York (I went when I was about 9 or 10 and I don’t remember a thing) but HOLY MOLY, hotels are INSANELY expensive. If I’m going to spend that much money, I’d rather head to a destination outside of the US.

I’ve been to the major cities in Europe (Rome, London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc. but only for 2-3 days at a time) and Rob’s never been so this might be a great opportunity to experience Europe together. I figured we could pick one city and really spend the week exploring and relaxing instead of visiting 2 cities and cramming all the activities into a few days. Is that a good idea? Or should we just wait to hit Europe when we have at least 2 weeks?

Argh. I don’t know. Anyone have any suggestions? We’re aiming to take our vacation in October. I wish it were October right now.

And to answer a few questions from my previous post… I’m taking my ballet classes at an actual studio. I can’t imagine taking a ballet class at a gym! I started taking lessons when I was 4 and took multiple classes a week until I was about 15. I actually thought for awhile that I was going to be a professional ballet dancer when I “grew up.” It wasn’t until I was 13, when I was auditioning for apprenticeships at various companies, that I realized 1) I didn’t have the ideal body type (I heard this more times than I care to remember) and 2) dancers have a tough life (competitive atmosphere, money is tight). At that point, I decided to stop training and just take classes for fun. That didn’t happen, though, since “high school life” took over (ie. pep squad, clubs, homework). I’ve wanted to take classes again for years now but was too lazy, lol. I’m trying to be more active now, which is hard since I’m not a huge fan of the gym. I figure that at least with ballet, I’m getting exercise AND I enjoy it. Not bad. 😀

ballet

I just took my first ballet class in 10 years.

HOLY CRAP. I think my body hates me. I’m going to be so sore in the morning. EEK.
