dc s4 dvds

Squee! Dawson’s Creek season 4 DVDs on Tuesday!

😀

But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do some complaining… about the music changes, of course. Here’s the comprehensive list of replacement songs for the DVD release…

— The song I’m most depressed about losing is David Gray’s This Year’s Love. It was played over the final Pacey/Joey scene in the season premiere, which is one of my most favorite moments of the show. Ever. Sniffle. That song, to me, was like the theme for Pacey and Joey’s relationship in this season… *sigh*

Superman didn’t make the cut in 402. They messed with another one of my favorite Pacey/Joey scenes! * shakes fist*

— Yes! Never Saw Blue Like That in 403 is intact. Phew. I’ve always loved the way this song gave the Dawson/Pacey scene a hopeful tone.

Crazy For This Girl in 408 is gone, which is so bizarre to me because the song is on the official soundtrack (Volume 2). I guess they didn’t get clearance for the DVDs when that deal was inked. *shrugs*

— I have to say that I’m not all that sad to see that Takes My Breath Away was replaced in 414. I know that it’s played over a particularly significant Pacey/Joey scene but… I just wasn’t all that crazy about the song itself. I’m interested to hear the replacement.

— Bye bye to In the Sun from 416. This song introduced me to Joseph Arthur so I’m sad to see it go.

— I’m in shock (SHOCK, I tell you!) that Sweet Jane has been replaced in 418. Jen and Dr. Frost talk about the song in the first act so when it plays during the montage at the end, it serves as kind of a nice bookend to the episode. GUH.

— Another disappointment. No more Waiting For My Real Life To Begin in 421. This is from my second favorite Dawson/Joey scene of the season (the first being their scene together in Self-Reliance). Bah. It’s like all my favorites — gone!

— Well, at least they kept Fields Of Gold in 422. That’s a plus.

ARGH. I’m so conflicted. I love having DC on DVD but it’s not the same knowing that they’re not the “original” episodes.

more tv commentary… and a meme

I *really* enjoy looking at the GAP website. Why, you ask?

Reason #1 — Michael Vartan.
Reason #2 — Josh Duhamel.

YUM.

Anyway, watched a few more premieres so a few more TV thoughts (may contain spoilers)…

CSI
I’m a little bummed because I got home too late and missed the first half of the premiere. Grrr. From what I saw, it seemed like there were too many cases going on (4, if I remember correctly) so the storylines weren’t as in-depth as they normally are. However, seeing Greg in the field was cool and I really loved seeing Reiko Aylesworth as the replacement lab tech. Too bad she quit already! Reiko would have been a great cast addition. Glad the show is back though — as if I don’t watch enough CSI with the daily reruns on SpikeTV… hehe.

American Dreams
Stellar premiere. Meg and Rox’s skirt protest rocked and JJ’s phone call home seriously hurt my heart. Guh. Is it sad that I totally want JJ and Beth to be together? I believe they still love each other but they’re both too stubborn to admit it. And I’m totally worried about this relationship he’s forming with the Vietnamese caretaker/nurse at the hospital — it’s such an intimate situation that they’re in right now. Sniffle. I want JJ and Beth to work things out.

And a TV meme for good measure (stolen from Allison)…

new TV

Watched lots of new TV these past few days… a (very) quick rundown with minor spoilers for the episodes…

Gilmore Girls
Lorelai and Rory are upset with each other, Emily and Richard are separated… it’s all so depressing. There were a few bright spots in the episode though — Lane and her whispering about sex was awesome and Luke’s multiple phone messages for Lorelai were OMGSOCUTE. I don’t even want to talk about Rory because she totally pained me (even if she had the most fabulous Marc Jacobs handbag). Although I have to say that I *am* a Rory/Dean shipper and this whole affair storyline kind of intrigues me (in a weird, twisted way). I’m looking forward to next week.

One Tree Hill
Ahhhh, the WB’s guilty pleasure is back. My favorite part of the episode was the revelation that Lucas thought Nathan was a reason to return to Tree Hill. Aww. Aside from that, Nathan/Haley are still as cute as ever (aside from that whole marriage thing), Jake’s still gone, and Brooke/Peyton are still pretending to be friends. Oh, and Haley has rocking parents. Good times.

Lost
I guess I’m a total and complete sucker for JJ Abrams cause I thought this was a really cool show. Good storyline, pacing, acting, suspense, music — all there. Plus, Merry! Charlie Salinger! Tess! Kendall! Weiss! And Hamilton! It’s like a fandom explosion, hehe.

Smallville
LOVED it. I haven’t *loved* an episode of Smallville in a long time so this is HUGE, people! I especially loved the 2 new cast additions. Erica Durance plays Lois with a lot of personality and I totally smiled when she said that she prefers nerds with glasses. Hee! And Jensen Ackles… is a hottie. YUM. Lana is one lucky lady, heh. I’m a Lana apologist so I’m glad she’s showing a little more spunk — plus, Kristin Kreuk actually seems to be enjoying herself. I don’t know what’s going on with her storyline, though. That was weird. I’m sad that Allison Mack seems to be missing from the opening credits (or did I happen to blink?) but yay for Jensen making the cut! That means we’ll be seeing more of him. Fantastic.

CSI: NY
A decent spin-off (Las Vegas is still best, of course). I’d rank it better than Miami (with the added bonus of no David Caruso!) but the cast didn’t grip me in any way, the sets had no personality, and it was shot way too dark. I don’t know if I’ll watch it regularly — maybe if I don’t have anything better to do.

Tired now. Off to bed. 🙂

shannen doherty

My 90210 fangirl was happy tonight as I watched North Shore (quite possibly the worst show I have ever forced myself to watch) — Shannen Doherty is back! And she’s bitchy! And manipulative! Just like Brenda!

I loved when she first stepped out of the car and said “Beats the hell out of Beverly Hills.” So cheesy yet so awesome.

The show will still get cancelled, though. That’s for sure.

there is a reaction

Let me just say… I wasn’t crazy about this episode. Even with the Ephram/Amy stuff.

*sigh* Dr. Brown. I love you and I know your heart is in the right place but… YOU NEED TO TELL EPHRAM, DO YOU HEAR ME? Do it. Don’t listen to Dr. Abbott.

Speaking of Dr. Abbott, is it just me or did his talk with Dr. Brown seem a bit out of character? He persuades Dr. Brown not to tell Ephram because Ephram and Amy are in love?! I know Dr. Abbott tends to indulge Amy but this just struck me as odd. I mean, Ephram fathered a child and Dr. Abbott’s okay with Amy dating him?

Madison, Madison, Madison. She’s not even on the show anymore and yet she still manages to hover over the storylines. I really need to get over it, don’t I? This storyline won’t be resolved anytime soon so I guess I should just stop my whining.

As for Ephram and Amy, I have to agree with Melissa — I hope tonight was the last time we’ll see the “obstacles for the star-crossed soulmates” storyline. I’ve never understood why writers seem to think that breaking couples up is more compelling than showing the couple together, which is what I would love for Ephram and Amy. I want to see them in a relationship and facing obstacles together. *crosses fingers*

Although I sense an obstacle in the newest cast addition of Hannah (not a spoiler, just speculation)… I wonder what her deal is. I kinda wish they wouldn’t add so many new characters when some of the existing and beloved characters barely have any screentime as it is (Bright, Edna, Laynie).

Loved Bright’s pool party and Dr. Hartman’s wellness walk. Sign me up for both, please! 🙂

My favorite line of the episode:
Dr. Brown [to Dr. Abbott]: “How many times have I told you, I don’t like you that way!” BWAHAHA!

Other great quotes:
Amy: “Why isn’t he IMing me?” Heh. I can relate.

Amy: “I’m totally low maintenance.” Suuuure, Amy, sure.

Dr. Abbott [to Dr. Hartman]: “Doc in a Box.” Hee.

Ephram: “Amy and I broke up.”
Delia: “Already?”

emmys

Every year I think the Emmys will actually be interesting but I’m always wrong. And I’m not quite sure why I never learn.

Quick comments…

Why in the world was Omarosa there? And why was she interviewed? UGH. Get her off my TV!

Normally I think Garry Shandling is really funny. But not tonight. They need to bring back Conan.

Arrested Development and Angels In America won everything. I’m serious. But was that really a surprise?

For me, the biggest surprise was Cynthia Nixon’s win for Best Supporting Actress (SatC – comedy). The SatC girls always seem to cancel each other out when they’re nominated together so I didn’t think any of them would win. But I’m so happy for CN — it’s about time! She was so fabulous as Miranda.

The other surprise win was Allison Janney for Best Actress (TWW – drama). She looked totally and completely shocked. But I loved her and her flustered speech.

Favorite dresses — Joely Richardson, Amber Tamblyn, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Lynn Sigler

So that’s that. 🙂 I can’t believe it’s the start of another work week… *le sigh*

for every action

Squee! Everwood is back! I have missed this show something fierce. And now my comments in list form because I’m feeling a little lazy… 😛

1. For the record, I’m not crazy about Greg’s hair. It’s all floppy and long. Cut. It.

2. Huh. New credits. I like them but I loved the old ones. But! At least Merrilyn Gann is in the credits now. It’s about time.

3. I loved all the scenes showing us what everyone was up to during the summer… Amy in summer school, Bright playing basketball, the Doctors in their new office…

4. … And Delia burning her hats!!! I’m so sad about that.

5. I fell in love with Ephram and Amy all over again in the teaser when she picks him up from the airport. Guh. And the natural way they just kind of glided over to each other to kiss… *sigh*

6. The way Andy hugged Ephram when he got home was so real. Too bad their whole reunion was tainted for me because of the thought of Madison. I really dislike this storyline. I want the whole Madison/baby plot to get wrapped up. Quick. The relationship between Andy and Ephram is one of my favorites and I feel like I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop and it’ll be back to Ephram hating his father. And that kills me.

7. I miss Irv’s voiceovers! I admit that sometimes they could be a bit cheesy but most of the time, they’re really touching (like the ending narration from Last Looks).

8. Ephram not answering Amy’s call. 🙁 I understand that Ephram’s all stressed out about Juilliard but… he needs to chill out a little.

9. Scott Wolf. He hasn’t aged at all! He seriously could have been Bailey from Po5. But was it just me or did he play his character to be a bit too hyper? And what was that look he shared with Nina?! No.

Memorable quotes
— Bright [to Ephram]: “I made 37 baskets. In a row!” (Not enough Bright in the episode!)

— Dr. Brown [to Dr. Abbott]: “There’s only so much wood a man can take!”

— Dr. Brown [to Dr. Abbott]: “I want my chair back!” BWAH!

— Bright [to Amy]: “Maybe that weird feeling you’re talking about is actually a good mood.” Ahhh, so true. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Amy so smile-y and happy. It was great.

— Dr. Abbott [to Jake]: “But you’re like 12 years old!”

Can’t wait for next week — I’m so glad the season’s started!

fall TV

I finally finished reading my EW Fall TV Preview issue so I figured it’s time to post my TV viewing schedule (like you were all waiting with anticipation, hehe)…

Monday
08:00: North Shore
What?! There’s nothing else to watch in the same time slot! But seriously, I’ll only be watching for Shannen Doherty’s upcoming appearances. After that, I’d be surprised if the show doesn’t get cancelled.

09:00: Everwood (premieres 9/13)
Squee! My favorite show. I’m so excited! Ephram returning from a summer in NY to a senior year with Amy, Bright facing his future after high school, Scott Wolf, the cloud of Madison and her baby tainting Andy and Ephram’s relationship… So. Much. Good. Stuff.

09:00: Las Vegas (premieres 9/13) – tape
I was going to skip this show this season mostly because last season I had the hardest time remembering to tape it and then subsequently forgot to watch the episodes I had recorded. But last Friday I went to the GAP and saw a huge Josh Duhamel poster in the storefront window and… *sigh* It can’t hurt to have another show to watch just for the eye candy.

10:00: LAX (premieres 9/13)
It’s Las Vegas in the airport! Plus, Blair Underwood. 😉

Tuesday
08:00: Gilmore Girls (premieres 9/21)
I finally saw a promo for GG tonight — Luke and Lorelai! Aww. I can’t wait to see their relationship develop this season.

09:00: One Tree Hill (premieres 9/21)
My guilty pleasure. And the cast is HOT. I mean, have you seen the new promo pictures?

Tuesday nights won’t be the same without 24. 🙁

Wednesday
08:00: Smallville (premieres 9/22)
The promise of Lois Lane and Jensen Ackles (I think he’s playing Lana’s new love interest Jason?) brings me back for another season.

08:00: Lost (tape – premieres 9/22)
It’s the JJ Abrams connection. I haven’t yet met a show of his I didn’t like.

09:00: The West Wing (premieres 10/20)
Going to try to follow the show again… although I say this every season and it never pans out. For some reason, I find it easier to watch TWW on DVD.

09:00: Kevin Hill (premieres 9/29) /The Mountain (premieres 9/22) – tape
I don’t think I’ll be able to see Oliver Hudson as anybody but squicky Eddie from Dawson’s Creek so I have a feeling I’ll be watching Taye Diggs tackle fatherhood.

10:00: CSI:NY (premieres 9/22)
Probably won’t watch this on a weekly basis. Just another fun show to keep me entertained from time to time.

Thursday
08:00: The O.C. (premieres 11/4)
Guh. What a long wait. Another month! I need my OC fix. I wish the DVDs came out sooner.

08:00: Joey – tape
I think this is the only sitcom on my entire list. Huh. I guess I’m much more of a dramatic person. *g*

09:00: CSI (premieres 9/23)
The CSI marathon on SpikeTV last week did a number on me. I’m already planning on getting the DVDs.

09:00: Life As We Know It (premieres 10/7)
Don’t know much about this show — just that it’s about teens from the boys’ point of view. Could be interesting.

Friday
I still don’t watch TV on Fridays. I can’t. And as much as I want to see Joan of Arcadia and Dr. Vegas (Rob Lowe!), I won’t. Maybe I’ll tape?

Saturday
08:00: The Apprentice
My Thursdays are overloaded so I’m planning on watching the Saturday reruns. Besides, extra boardroom footage!

Sunday
08:00: American Dreams (premieres 9/26)
LOVE this show. Very much a critics’ darling that doesn’t get the ratings I think it should. Touching storylines, stellar cast, well-developed characters… all set against the backdrop of the turbulent 60s.

09:00: Jack and Bobby
Caught the premiere tonight and enjoyed it! Though that’s not really a surprise considering I like Berlanti’s work (see Dawson’s Creek and Everwood). I think the premise has a lot of potential but the characters could use some work. As it is, I don’t like Grace, Courtney and even Bobby! The only ones I warmed up to were Jack and Marcus. I’m also not quite sure about the flashforward sequences… they could get tired fast. But since Alias doesn’t premiere til January, I’ll stick around.

Phew. I watch a lot of TV, don’t I? 😀

apprentice is back!

The Apprentice is back! YAY.

I missed the boardroom. I missed George and Carolyn. And they’re back!

Don’t have any favorites yet — but the crazies have made quite a name for themselves already. Raj and Stacie J. *shakes head* Raj is straight-up bizarre. I mean, the cane? The red pants? And the bowtie? He reminds me of a clown. And Stacie J, oh my goodness. She’s a live wire, that one.

And did I hear correctly that the Saturday rerun will have 20 minutes of extra boardroom footage?! I’m such a sucker that I’ll probably try to catch it.

Also watched Joey tonight. I had low expectations for this show so I’m surprised to say that I really really liked it. It was funny! “Welcome to the Hollywood Minute. I’m name.” Bwah!

csi marathon

I can’t seem to stop watching CSI.

Arrgghhh!!!

SpikeTV is airing this “Best of CSI” marathon all this week from like 8am – 1am and it’s sucked me in. It started on Monday and instead of going out to see Garden State like we planned, Rob and I started watching CSI at about noon or 1pm and seriously, we didn’t turn it off until we went to sleep. I’m not kidding. Then today as soon as I got home from work, I headed straight for the TV to catch the marathon. *face meet palm*

I did, however, manage to pry myself from the TV long enough to pick up Everwood s1 and Alias s3! Yay! New and shiny DVDs make me so happy. *happy sigh*

Ok. Commercial’s over. Back to CSI. I am so addicted.
