les mis

Saw Les Miserables last night (yay for free tickets from work!). OMG. The singing was amazing — plus, the actor who played Jean Valjean, Randal Keith, was the very same one who Cameron Mackintosh chose to play the role on Broadway when the musical ended its run in 2003. He was PHENOMENAL. The only problem with the show was that the Curran Theatre is incredibly tiny so the choreography and staging was so different from the times I’ve seen the show before and I found myself thinking “Hey, that set is different” or “He’s not supposed to be standing there.” I guess I’m just used to seeing the musical on a much larger stage.

Regardless, Les Mis was so great — if the national tour hits your city, you should definitely try to see it. The next musical that hits San Francisco is Wicked. Anyone seen it (I think Sarah has, if I remember correctly)? Like it?

Oooohhh, Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers have been cast in Mission Impossible 3. Great cast… I hope this movie will be better than the second one. What a disappointment it was.

I so want to see Batman Begins. Possible weekend activity.

mtv movie awards

I’m watching the MTV Movie Awards and Katie Holmes is presenting the MTV Generation award to Tom Cruise. Now. I normally love her (leftover from my Dawson’s Creek obsession) but OMG, what happened to her?!? First of all, she’s waaaay too skinny now and then she was too smiley and weird during her introduction (has she been taking crazy lessons from Tom?). I didn’t know who was FREAKING me out more — Tom (and I’m a huge fan of his work) or Katie.

LOVED loved loved the reenactment that Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling did of their kissing scene in The Notebook. Haven’t seen the movie but damn, that was HOT. Gotta rent the movie…

The rest of the awards were pretty forgettable.

Anyway, I’m heading to Southern CA for a friend’s wedding on Saturday — hope everyone has a great weekend!

rent trailer!

Thanks to Sarah’s head’s up, I found and downloaded the Rent trailer. All I have to say is…

SQUEE. It is seriously AMAZING. There’s no dialogue (just clips pieced together with Seasons of Love playing over it) but it’s one powerful trailer… *sigh* I cannot wait til November. But for now, watching the trailer over and over and over will suffice. 😛

Quick meme…
1. Current fandoms: Everwood and Dawson’s Creek (yes, still). I consider myself a part of many other fandoms but I find it hard to really get involved. Fandoms can be SCARY.
2. My first fandom ever: Dawson’s Creek
3. My most recent fandoms: Grey’s Anatomy, Lost
4. 5 Fandoms that mean a lot to me: Dawson’s Creek, Everwood, Felicity, Roswell, and BtVS

I may get a chance to add Veronica Mars to the list of my many fandoms — apparently UPN really is rerunning season 1 starting June 14. I’m gonna see if the show actually lives up to the hype. Then I won’t feel so out of the loop anymore, lol.

Lastly, just wanted to share that Jennifer put up a new layout at High Anxiety and I’ve finally installed a new gallery… hope you all like the new look!

star wars episode III

Loved Star Wars. I’m sure I’ll watch it again when I can focus on the movie and not on staying awake. (I still can’t believe I went to the midnight showing knowing I had work the next day).

Comments on the movie later… after I catch up on sleep. 😛

hp and the goblet of fire trailer

The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer is online. So. Much. SQUEE. The shots of the trio from the past movies are so cute. Plus, the Harry/Hermione shipper in me loved seeing Hermione yell for Harry when he was fighting the dragon (or at least, I think — it was a very brief shot). Aww. I can’t wait for November.

On a sad note, it looks like American Dreams has been cancelled (this is Chad Darnell’s blog — a guy who used to work on casting for the show — he also works on Lost and Alias so his entries are always fun to read). 🙁 I’m so disappointed in NBC. But even more than that, I’m really sad that the season finale ended up being the series finale. It just doesn’t feel right to have the show end with Meg leaving the way she did. *sigh* There’s no other way to say it so… this sucks.

I started making caps of my Dawson’s Creek season 5 DVDs for High Anxiety and wow, it’s kinda painful, lol. This is my least favorite season — horrible storylines and annoying new characters (Karen, Professor Wilder) — make these episodes tough for me to watch again. However, I’m actually warming up to Audrey again (her downward spiral in season 6 really killed the character for me) and also enjoying Charlie, played by none other than Chad Michael Murray. Hee. But maybe that’s because I keep thinking he’s Lucas from One Tree Hill, except with hair. But I’ve only watched the first 2 episodes so we’ll see how the rest of it goes…
Hope everyone’s having a great weekend!

oc marathon

I spent my entire weekend watching all (I know, I’m a total couch potato) of The O.C. season 1. Man, I *loved* last season… the disastrous trip to Tijuana, Ryan and Marissa’s first kiss on the ferris wheel, Seth juggling Anna and Summer at Thanksgiving, Julie and Luke’s affair… plus there was an abundance of broody Ryan (with the famous gray hoodie, of course). This season just isn’t the same. I can’t pinpoint whether it’s the new characters (the only one I actually liked was Zach but I wouldn’t mind if Alex stuck around) or the storylines that came out of left field (Sandy and Rebecca, Lindsay and the question of her paternity, Marissa and Alex). The poor ratings are definitely an indication that something is “off” — whatever it is, I hope the writers can get the show back on track.

Totally random Jack and Bobby comment — it seems that we’ve seen the last of both Bradley Cooper (Tom) and Mike Erwin’s (Nate) characters (sadly I’ve pretty much only been watching for them at this point). I definitely understand Tom leaving the show (with him and Grace broken up, he basically has no storyline) but Nate too?! AND the writers had to turn him into a complete jerk! It’s too bad — I really liked him and Courtney together.

And just a head’s up for anyone else who is obsessed with TV shows on DVD — 24 season 3 and One Tree Hill season 1 are 39.99 this week at Target. I picked up OTH yesterday. Can’t wait to have another marathon…

I finally got around to watching First Daughter (which I rented awhile back and kept forgetting about). After all the horrible reviews I read about it last year, I was pleasantly surprised. Probably because my expectations were so low. Marc Blucas’s acting was better than I remember from his role on BtVS but Katie Holmes really surprised me — she looked totally stiff. There were even a few scenes where she looked bored. Like she didn’t want to be there or something. Cute movie despite that.

Site updates: Linda gave me her Everwood season 1 fanlisting so I’ve made a new layout and moved it over here. Please join! I also put up a new layout at Divided They Fall, my Ryan/Seth fanlisting. YAY.

iTunes and spoilers

I received 3 iTunes gift cards today so I’m looking through the music store trying to figure out what I can download and I seriously can’t find a single song that I want. Anyone have any recs? Songs that are on constant repeat on your playlist?

Been watching lots of movies lately…

Day After Tomorrow
The movie has really clunky dialogue and some seriously unbelievable storylines (the wolves? Dennis Quaid’s trek through the storm?) but I thought it was really entertaining. Or maybe I just enjoyed it because of one Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal. All the special effects and digital imaging were amazing as well. Really gorgeous.

Collateral
Loved Tom Cruise (he was my first celebrity crush and I pretty much love him in everything he’s in) and Jamie Foxx. The movie, however, is a whole different story. I liked it and thought it had potential (especially the tension between Vincent and Max) but I didn’t think it really went anywhere. I was very unsatisfied as the end credits rolled.

Saved!
A much, much better movie that I thought it was going to be. And surprisingly very funny. Mandy Moore, in particular, did a good job. She has great comedic timing — something I would never have guessed from her previous movies. I highly recommend it (unless you’re very sensitive about religious topics).

Garden State
I bought a copy of this DVD before ever watching the movie… thank goodness I adored it (and now have a girl crush on Natalie Portman! Aww!). I loved that it was a very real movie — the emotions, the relationships, and the ending. Plus, it had a SUPERB soundtrack.

Is it sad that I totally want to get a copy of Troy tomorrow because I want to ogle Brad Pitt and Eric Bana? Mmm.

lotr: rotk

Marianne! Mandy! Alie! I’ve received the holiday cards you guys sent me and I love them all. Thanks so, so much.

😀

You know, if I don’t stop buying “presents” for myself every time I go Christmas shopping, I’d probably be done by now. Guh.

Rob and I picked up The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King tonight. $22.99 at Best Buy. Squee! The first thing we watched was the Easter egg on the first disc. OMG, it is *so* funny. It’s basically Dominic Monaghan interviewing Elijah Wood via satellite (Elijah can’t see Dominic but Dominic can see him). The twist is that Dominic is pretending to be a German reporter and Elijah totally buys it. As you can imagine, it’s completely hilarious with Dom commenting numerous times about Elijah’s big beautiful blue eyes and asking whether or not Elijah likes to kick balls. Heh. You just have to watch it. (It’s on the first disc — go to the “select a scene” menu, scroll to the bottom until the ring shows up, then hit enter).

We’ve watched about three-fourths of the extended movie and so far, I have loved all the extra scenes that were edited back in, especially the Houses of Healing and anything having to do with Faramir and Eowyn’s story. This was a big part of the book that I was most disappointed not to see in the theatrical release. The additional scenes aren’t very long at all but at least it’s something!

And some clarification on my O12 comments for Robyn…

I thought Benedict was a much more capable adversary for Ocean’s Eleven so that’s why I thought Toulour’s rivalry with Ocean was unnecessary. I understood the rivalry and the way it propelled the story forward, I just didn’t see the need to bring in another character for the movie — but that’s probably because I wasn’t crazy about Toulour in general.

😛

ocean’s twelve

So I went to see Ocean’s Twelve on Friday (mild spoilers may be ahead!)… and at first, I was a little disappointed with the movie but after a few days, I think I’ve changed my mind. It’s definitely not as good as the first but it’s still a fun, fun movie. I guess I just had extraordinarily high hopes because Ocean’s Eleven is one of my favorite movies ever. O12 lacked two important things that made the first movie work — real group interaction as well as a tight, cohesive script (there were a few unnecessary storylines — the rivalry between Ocean and Toulour, Isabel and the end to her story).

But whatever, it was still a highly entertaining movie with exceptional actors and The George, The Matt and especially The Brad were looking mighty nice. That should be reason enough to see it! Heh. I know, I’m shallow.

Fannish Five

What 5 characters perform their actual jobs well? (Characters from Clerks need not apply).
1. Leo McGarry, The West Wing
2. Karen Rowe, One Tree Hill
3. Gil Grissom, CSI
4. Kirsten Cohen, The OC
5. Jack Bauer, 24

day 1 of the olympics

Saw The Bourne Supremacy last night — good movie but the shaky camera shots made me feel nauseous. I’ll have to rent The Bourne Identity to get more of the backstory.

I am so sad to hear about Craig Kilborn leaving The Late, Late Show. There’s something about the deadpan delivery of his jokes that totally makes me laugh. And the way he announces himself before walking out on stage… and 5 questions! You will be missed, Kilby!

Yay the Olympics have started! 🙂 (I’m going to apologize in advance for the Olympics talk that’s sure to monopolize my blog this next week). I just love the Olympics, especially the summer games — it’s the one time where I become a complete couch potato for 2 weeks and watch pretty much nothing else. I eat up all the coverage. I’ll watch anything and everything — dressage, cycling, race walking, etc. EVERY. THING. Which I guess is weird since the only 2 sports I regularly follow are figure skating and artistic gymnastics. Hee.

I recorded the Opening Ceremonies (Friday was Rob’s birthday so we were out at dinner) and I really enjoyed it. The human sculpture breaking up to form the Greek Islands, the parade of Greek statues, and the run to pay homage to past host cities — all very cool. My only gripe has to be that Katie Couric and Bob Costas are the worst commentators. They had very little to say that actually added value to what I was seeing on screen AND they mispronounced countries and athletes’ names. UGH. On a completely materialistic note — I absolutely loved the purses that the Greek women were carrying during the Parade of Nations. I think I need one.

Some comments for the first day:
First off, I can’t stand NBC’s coverage of the games. It’s all haphazard and crazy — half of an event here, the rest of the event about 2 hours later… grrr.

Yay for Michael Phelps! I’m glad he’s got his first gold medal. He rocked that 400m IM.

Yay for Ian Thorpe! He was so emotional when he won — he must have felt so much pressure to win considering he didn’t technically qualify for the event.

As for men’s gymnastics team prelims… I don’t really know how to feel about the US men’s showing because NBC barely showed any of their routines! It’s times like these when I wish I had an HDTV. I want comprehensive coverage! Anyway, as far as I can tell, the Hamm twins were amazing (as usual). I’m happy that Paul qualified for the All-Around *and* 4 event finals. He’s so awesome. But I’m so disappointed that NBC basically ignored Paul and Morgan and focused their attention on Blaine Wilson (the “rebel” who’s won like 50 US national championships but has never medaled at the Olympics). And I can’t believe the huge deal the commentators made about Blaine’s skill on the high bar “all of a sudden” being undervalued and he had to change his routine. WHAT.EVER. The FIG can’t just change the value of a skill all willy-nilly. They inform the coaches and the athletes ahead of time when the code of points change. I was so annoyed when he was being interviewed and he made it sound as if there was some kind of conspiracy against him. *deep breath* No love to you, Blaine Wilson.

Random note… love the laurel wreath that they’re giving out to the medal winners. I want to make one for myself. HAH!
