scooby doo, where are you?

I went to see Scooby Doo earlier today — I wasn’t expecting much especially after reading so many bad reviews about it but I thought it was entertaining. Matthew Lillard was really good as Shaggy — he really has the voice down pat. The one really bad thing was Freddie Prinze Jr.’s hair — it freaked me out. It just does not look natural.

Going to do the Friday Five

When was the last time you…
…sent a handwritten letter? Oh man! It’s been a long time — um, maybe my sophomore year in college, which was 3 years ago. I used to keep in touch with an elementary school friend via letters but I’m just terrible at keeping in touch so that kind of fizzled out. 🙁
…baked something from scratch or made something by hand? Well, last summer, I got one of those latch hook kits (it was of Winnie the Pooh) — you know, just to have something to do while sitting at home pondering what I should do with my life. 😛 I guess I wasn’t that dedicated or I was really lazy (probably the latter) cause it took me a few months to finish it. lol.
…camped in a tent? Looong ago — maybe when I was like 10? My dad loved camping so when I was younger, we would go a few times a year. It was okay — not something I really enjoy. The worst part of the whole experience would be using the coin-operated showers. Ugh. I once had shampoo still in my hair and I ran out of quarters. No joke. Luckily, my mom was also in the restroom and ran back to the campsite to get me more. Gah.
…volunteered your time to church, school, or community? It’s so sad that I can’t remember… Well, I don’t know if this counts but when I was in college, I volunteered as a mentor for incoming freshman. I helped them get accustomed to their new surroundings and I acted as a resource for them throughout the year.
…helped a stranger? Maybe about 2 weeks ago, a lady asked for directions in downtown San Francisco. I gave her directions but a couple seconds later, I realized that I had directed her in the complete opposite direction so I ran to catch up with her (which in SF is no small feat what with all the people milling about during the lunch hour) and told her I was sorry and gave her the correct information. 🙂

dinner with an old friend

I just got back from having dinner with a friend I’ve known since we were like 3. We met cause our dads work for the same company — and still do. For like 25+ years, I think. Then we went to elementary school together. Yup, first through eighth grade. He knew me back when I wore huge eyeglasses and had braces. Oh, the horror. Anyway, it was really cool to see him and catch up (we both left sunny southern CA after high school– he went to NYU and I went to CAL) — we had a great time laughing at the memories of our younger selves. Ah, good times.

Hmm… plugging Amy cause she’s stalking me over here in CA. Just kidding — she’s on vacation and she’s like, seriously, 30 minutes away from me. 🙂

almost back to normal

So things are somewhat back to normal for me… Rob took out my primary hard drive which was causing all the problems and installed Windows onto my other hard drive. I still have to reinstall all my programs (which is such a pain!) but at least I have access to the files for my site and all the images that I’ve accumulated for fanart/website use. AND I was able to check my email! Woo-freaking-hoo! 😉 I have to plow through it though and who knows how long that’ll take. 😛

Gah!!! My guestbook *still* is not working. ::sigh:: Yet another thing to reinstall. Boo.

black hawk down

I feel so drained. I just finished watching Black Hawk Down (thanks again Rob!) and wow… there really are no words. It’s just such a powerful and emotional tribute. But Amy’s right — I could not keep the characters straight for the life of me. I kept getting everyone all confused.

And hmm… I also downloaded the 2 minute Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets trailer from The Leaky Cauldron. Wow — it definitely looks like a much more mature movie what with all the Dan action. 😛

i feel fat

No more coke. No more sweets. No more junk food. I swear. Must exercise. I know I’ve been saying that — but now I have the motivation. I just tried on a cute skirt I bought about a year and a half ago and it barely fits! Grrr!

Anyway, I exercised my check card quite a bit earlier this evening — I went on a bit of a shopping spree. I bought 2 pairs of shoes at Nordstrom (hey, they were both on sale!), a belt at American Eagle and a cute tank at A&F. 🙂 I just got my paycheck today and it’s almost all gone, lol.

It’s been a looong time since I’ve answered The Friday Five — here goes:

Do you live in a house, an apartment or a condo? apartment
Do you rent or own? rent
Does anyone else live with you? yup, my boyfriend Rob and my cousin Warren — two boys! Guess who does most of the cleaning? 😉
How many times have you moved in your life? 4 times — I grew up in Southern CA and lived there until I moved away for college (I went to UC Berkeley in Northern CA). After enduring the dorms (and yucky co-ed bathrooms) for 2 years, I moved to an apartment close to campus with a couple of friends. Then after graduation, I subletted another apartment for a month while I was getting everything settled for my last move to the current apartment where I am now. Whew. I want to stay here for awhile (well, I have to cause I just signed a lease for a year a few months ago) cause last summer, I moved twice in the span of 2 months and it was a serious pain in the ass.
What are your plans for this weekend? Nothing really. Just want to clean the apartment, vacuum and maybe get Rob to watch Minority Report with me when he gets back home on Sunday (are you reading this? can we go please?)

Also: *Huge* thanks to Dirty Rob (:P) for sending The Black Hawk Down DVD! 🙂 You totally made my face light up — Ewan and Josh! You’re the best. Take care of yourself when you’re in Korea.

exercise bites

So I’ve finally decided to start exercising again — cause I figure if I’m going to Hawaii, then I might as well look cute. 😉 But geesh, after only like 20 minutes on the freaking exercise bike, I seriously thought I was going to pass out. I used to be so active and in shape while I was in high school and college — I’m such a lazy couch potato now. ::shakes head:: How depressing. I could barely even manage the short walk back to my apartment from the gym. I was seriously shaking from weakness.

Computer update — still broken. Rob’s still working on it — we bought more RAM today in hopes that that would do the trick but it didn’t. He thinks he’s going to have to reformat my hard drive. ::sigh:: This sucks. I hate not being able to use my own computer. All my stuff is on there! Waah! ::glares at computer::

i’m baaack

It’s so good to be back in the Bay. I love visiting my Dad and my family down in Southern CA but I don’t know what it is, I just don’t feel like it’s my “home” anymore. Sure, I grew up there and it’ll always be a part of me but I can’t relate to the culture or way of life — something. I can’t really put my finger on it but for the first time, it really truly felt like I was visiting and not returning home.

Anyway, I didn’t really do much of anything — just had meal after meal with my family and went shopping (of course!) with my Dad and my cousin. They’re like my official shopping buddies when I visit. I managed to get my Dad’s Father’s Day present while he wasn’t looking and also bought a few tank tops for my trip to Hawaii.

When I got back last night, I discovered that my computer still wasn’t working — the last time I blogged, which was Thursday night, my computer started running reeeeaaaally slowly. And this annoying little window kept popping up that says “Disk Error. Please insert disk… blah, blah.” Grr! I don’t know why it does that — and then when I try to cancel it, it just keeps going and going and going… like the damn Energizer Bunny. Humph. So Rob is looking into the problem for me — and I’ll be taking his computer hostage so I can still blog, update and make wp. 🙂

going home

I’m all giddy right now — I just saw The Strokes on Jay Leno! 😀 They sang Hard to Explain and they were awesome. Julian looked really nice and tan and his hair is doing a cool flip thing — Cat, you would have been so happy. 😉 I also saw Sarah Michelle Gellar on Conan O’Brien. She’s so gorgeous — she had a really radiant and glowing look to her. She just looked so happy, it was great to see her smiling. But I’m not too sure about Scooby Doo — I really can’t stand the sight of Freddie Prinze, Jr. with blonde hair. It seriously freaks me out.

Anyway, this is my last blog until Monday night probably. I’m going home to Southern California to visit my Dad for Father’s Day — fun! 🙂 And I don’t even want to attempt to use my dad’s computer cause it is the slowest thing in the universe. I would probably get fed up and kick it to high heaven or something. AND he has dial-up — I’ve been so spoiled with DSL that I am so impatient when it comes to surfing the net nowadays. So yeah. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. 😀

CoS teasers

I finally saw the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets — I love that I get to see lots of Dan everywhere again. 😛 One thing I noticed after viewing the 34-second trailer numerous times (lol) is that Rupert Grint (the boy who plays Ron) looks much older than he did in the first movie. I wonder how many of the movies the original cast is signed for — 3? Cause at this rate, the actors are all going to look so much older than the character they play. There are also some very cool CoS preview pics at The Leaky Cauldron — I don’t think that they’re spoilery but proceed with caution. 😉
