HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments on the layout! I really really appreciate it. And yes, the picture I used really is the US cover for OotP. 🙂

So I did it. I bought the Apple iPod (15gb, yay!). I’ve been lusting (hee) after it for quite some time so when I received an $85 coupon in the mail today from Dell, I decided I might as well put the coupon to good use. AND the Dell site was offering free shipping. I mean, with those discounts, it would have been a crime not to buy the iPod. Right?!? The only downside to ordering from Dell is that it takes about 2-3 weeks for delivery. (!!!) I seriously don’t think I can wait that long. I might break from the anticipation.

I just found out that season 1 of Smallville is being released on DVD in late September. Very very exciting — except that season 1 of Alias is coming out earlier that same month. Buying both of these DVD sets will cost me about $100. I definitely need a salary raise.

ps- Lauren, the lyrics are from John Hiatt’s Have A Little Faith In Me.

OotP layout

Just a short drive-by post (I know! I’m terrible!) to introduce my new layout — I guess reading Order of the Phoenix finally inspired me to put up something new here. Hee.

Must fix all the bugs and dead links though. Grr. Argh.

OotP

So I did end up buying my Harry Potter book at the midnight release. I just could *not* wait until the morning to get my hands on the book. I restrained myself from attending the actual party which started at 10pm — only because I took pity on the poor kids. I’m sure that I would have destroyed all of them in the Harry Potter trivia and I didn’t want to have that on my conscience. Heh. Anyway, I showed up around 11:30 and omg, I just about had a heart attack. There were so many people!!! All I could think was “Damn it! How long is it going to take for me to get my book?” I got in line to get my ticket and to my horror, I was number 500-something! I seriously had no clue this many people even lived in Emeryville. I ended up waiting about 2 and a half hours but I found myself being entertained by hilarious adults decked out in entire wizard outfits, the little kids running around pretending to cast spells on people, and even the completely stressed out Borders employees.

I got home at around 2am and I was so incredibly tired but I just *had* to start reading — I only read about 6 chapters or so and finally gave in to sleep. I have since finished the book and I think it’s fabulous. There’s just so much more tension and anger in this installment and that made it all the more exciting for me to read. My thoughts are much too incoherent and mixed-up to write a real review but I just have to say that Harry needs a huge hug immediately. And I’d like to be the one to give it to him. Heh. I’m kidding. Really.

Hmmm… just finished watching that show Driven on VH1 — they featured Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. For some strange reason, I am oddly fascinated by them. I mean, these two are only 17 and they’ve built an entire brand. That is just so amazing to me. Who knew the annoying little girls who played Michelle on Full House would be billionaires before their 18th birthday? Can you tell I really have absolutely nothing else to blog about? Can you?

harry potter day!!!

HARRY POTTER DAY.

!!!!!!

I can’t wait. When I got home today, there was a message from Borders reminding me to pick up my copy of OotP this weekend. Pshaw. Like I would forget, you silly people! The message was really cool though because it was one of those pre-recorded messages and get this, it was the guy that narrates the Harry Potter DVDs! How cool is that?

Ok, fine. So maybe it’s not that cool. I find strange things amusing.

So I was going to wait until Saturday morning to pick up the book but I was reading this transcript of an interview with JK Rowling (beware! there are spoilers for OotP) and it just made me super duper excited. I think I may have to head to Borders for the midnight book party. I have no one to go with though since the boyfriend is going to be in Las Vegas for the weekend. Plus, I’m seriously going to look like a complete weirdo! I imagine many kids attend this book party, right? How weird would I look if I walked in. And by myself! Hmm. I’ll guess I’ll have to be quick — walk in, pay, walk home and pull an all-nighter reading the book. Hee.

Anyway, like I mentioned earlier, the boyfriend is going to be in Las Vegas this weekend for a bachelor party — I’ve given him a good amount of money so that he can win more money for ME! The deal is that if he wins at least $400, he’ll give me the money to buy an iPod. Eeee! I’m trying to send him good vibes so he can place smart bets and come home a winner!

Many thanks to Alie, Melanie, Reen, Linda and Nicola for helping me figure out how to disable direct linking. 🙂 I got it to work on A Beautiful Reality. Go me. I haven’t customized it or anything so it only shows a red x — I think I will fashion an evil image to put in it its place. Heh.

toys r us

Toys R Us is evil.

I get home today and I’m relaxing in front of the TV when the boyfriend says “Let’s go to Toys R Us. I want to look at the Transformers toys.” I reluctantly went with him and we ended up spending about an hour in there. (!!!) I was tempted by all the Harry Potter lego sets, the R2-D2 figurines, the Strawberry Shortcake dolls, the Gameboy games, the Trumpet-playing Cookie Monster (which I really wanted — I have to add to my collection!)… err, pretty much everything. That store is so EVIL. Rob somehow managed to get out of there without buying anything for himself but I left with 2 Care Bears. I got Grumpy Bear for myself and Share Bear for my cousin — I’m planning on giving it to her when she leaves for school in a few weeks. So I guess that justifies my purchase then — I bought a *gift.* Heh.

Rob and I finally got on board with the whole Netflix phenomenon (only after the closest Blockbuster Video to our apartment closed down) and we love it! I definitely recommend it — especially for people like us who always forget to return rentals on time and rack up insane late charges. So far, we’ve watched About A Boy (adorable movie!) and Wet Hot American Summer (funny stuff — Paul Rudd, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce and Bradley Cooper are all great). Very very exciting.

Oh! I have a question — does anyone know how to disable direct linking? Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂

airport stories

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! 🙂 Mine went by way too quickly — I’m so not in the mood to go back to work tomorrow. The thought makes me shudder. Gah.

My weekend started Friday night when I went to the airport for my flight to visit my dad for Father’s Day weekend. So I’m going through the security checkpoint and as I’m waiting to be told to go through the metal detector, this crazy woman behind me gets right up on my ass and says to me, “Hurry! I’m late for my flight — it’s going to leave in a few minutes!” I’m thinking why the heck did she wait until *now* to get to the airport and would she please get off my back! I mean, I *can’t* go anywhere until the nice security man tells me it’s okay. So we finally go through the metal detector and we’re waiting for our personal belongings to come down the conveyor belt and as the bin with my purse, jacket and backpack gets closer, the aforementioned crazy woman starts touching all my stuff. (!!!) I can’t stand it when people do that!

So anyway, I’m in SoCal and my dad and I are going out to eat and shopping and other fun father-daughter stuff, but I just can’t enjoy myself cause it’s so freakishly HOT! I had forgotten just how torturous summers in Cerritos can be. I was so uncomfortable and could feel the beginning of a headache so we went back home and I spent a good part of my Saturday sleeping. Heh. Aside from that, I had a good weekend — spent lots of quality time with the family.

Doing the Seven on Sunday:

1. What was the last album you purchased? What did you think of it?
No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls by Simple Plan. It’s a good CD — nothing to gush about or anything. It’s just something fun I enjoy listening to while I’m hard at work surfing the net or making wallpapers.

2. Is there one album in your collection that even you can’t believe you own? If so, why did you buy it? Eh… any of my 98 Degrees CDs. I thought Jeff was really cute so I expressed my fangirliness by purchasing their CDs. I’m really embarassed about the Christmas one, which is actually a really horrible CD. Oy vey.

3. What new/fairly new song are you currently loving
I’m all about Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake. It’s one of those songs that gets in your head, you know? Plus, it’s an all-around groovy song.

4. Found a song you love and it’s the only one you know by that artist… Do you buy the whole CD and hope some of it’s as good as the one, or download the one and forget the rest?
It depends on the artist — if it’s some random rap/hip hop song, then I’ll download it but if it’s anything else, chances are I’ll buy the CD.

5. Are there any songs you can listen to over and over again and just not get sick of?
I’m one of those people who doesn’t get sick of songs easily — I can listen to something forever. Seriously. But if I’m forced to pick then… it would have to be anything by Dashboard Confessional and David Gray.

6. Any songs you wouldn’t mind never ever hearing again?
Mmmm… the only thing that comes to mind right now is Baby Got Back. I’m sure there are others though.

7. Where do you like to listen to your music?
In my room. Usually when I’m working on my computer or cleaning my room.

Argh!!! The NJ Nets lost! Grrr.

Oh, whee! My new roomie is moving in and he has a TIVO! Score!

Kate, how does tomorrow sound? I’m SO sorry. *flashes sweet smile*

dc series finale fanlisting

Okay, so I wanted this to be a surprise but Linda found out (:P) so here it is…

Dawson’s Creek Finale Fanlisting

Please join! 🙂

As for the Matchbox 20 concert — Eeeeeeeee! Rob Thomas!!! His voice! Mmmmm. Eeeeeeeee!

*ahem*

So the concert started out with American Hi-Fi. I was outside getting food for most of their set so I didn’t really get to hear much of it — I did see them perform Flavor of the Weak (the only song of theirs that I know) and they were really good. Very high energy and their lead singer is so funny. Right before FotW, he said “I know all of you are thinking ‘Who are these guys?’ Well, I’ve noticed that this next song is the one that has people nudging their neighbors and saying ‘Oh! These guys!'” Heh. That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Sugar Ray was up next — I find Mark McGrath’s voice to be completely lackluster and most of their songs to be completely forgettable (Please don’t hate me!) but they totally entertained me! And wow, Mark McGrath is so cute in person. Wow. Their last song was Fly — and to my surprise, Mark McGrath ran off the stage and ran around the entire lower level of the arena. And then he stopped right in front of my section — he was seriously like 5 rows in front of me! He picked up a girl from the first row who was about 13 and asked her to sing the chorus with him. She was so cute — he was hugging her and they were singing together. That was good stuff.

Then of course Matchbox 20 — The entire time they performed, I had such a huge silly smile on my face. But how could I not?!? Rob Thomas just has one of those voices that gets to you. It’s intense and powerful and so sexy. They opened up with Disease and sang Mad Season, 3 AM, Bright Lights, All I Need, Could I Be You, You’re So Real, Unwell, Real World, Tears for Fears’s Everybody Wants to Rule the World, and a few others that I can’t think of right now. (I have a horrible memory). Between songs, Rob made some really funny comments — about midway through their set, he was like “How are you all feeling?! We got so much more show for you! So if you’re not enjoying yourself yet, then I don’t think we can do anything for you.” Hee. It really was funny! I guess you had to be there. And then later, towards the end of the show, Rob was looking at the people in the upper levels and then he said, “I don’t want to scare anyone, but there is a giant pig up there.” It turns out that someone dressed up in a pink, fuzzy pig costume. I’m talking full body costume with a huge head. So Rob asked “Can we get the pig to come on the stage? I came all the way to San Jose just to see a pig dance across this stage.” So the pig’s friends walked him/her down and for about 5 minutes, every few seconds Rob was like “What’s the status on the pig? Is it coming?” It was hilarious — the guys were just playing some random song and everyone in the arena was standing up trying to see where the pig was. When the pig finally got on stage, it danced around with Rob. Bwah, that was classic. (Apparently, the pig was handing out flyers in support of PETA). Anyway, they ended the night with Push, which was ahhhh… perfect. I’m so glad I had the chance to see them — my new roommate is a HUGE fan and he got the tickets for us. Thanks roomie!

[edited to say: Linda, I got your email — I gotta head to bed now but I will email you, definitely. :)]

justin and christina rock

omg, the Justified/Stripped concert seriously blew me away. It was so. good. Even the boyfriend enjoyed it. He went so far as to say that Justin was entertaining. Hee, I think I’ve turned him into a Justin fan. 😛 And our seats were awesome — lower level, 15th row, right smack dab in the center.

Black Eyed Peas opened up with Joints and Jam. Eeeeee!!! <— This was me. Man, this song takes me back to my college days –when I had a crush on my current boyfriend and he would play it in the car when we would go out. *sigh* And my college roommate (Shirley! *waves*) downloaded it and played it in our room sometimes. Ah, memories. Anyway, BEP played a bunch of other songs from their upcoming album and they rocked. They were so high energy and crazy, especially Taboo. What a great way to start the concert. I didn’t even know they were the opening act so it was a total surprise to me and the boyfriend (he really likes them).

Christina was up first with Dirty. I used to hate this song (still despise the video) but after hearing it so many times on the radio, it’s grown on me. Perfect way for her to get the crowd (which was more on the older side than on the teeny-bopper side) up on their feet and dancing in their seats. Good times, good times. Most songs she performed were from StrippedA Voice Within (powerful ballad), Infatuation (definite crowd-pleaser), Get Mine Get Yours, So Impossible, Can’t Hold Us Down (which she sang from a motorcycle), Walk Away (very sexual imagery with a hot guy gyrating in the background), and Fighter. As for her older material, she did updated versions of the most popular 3 — Genie in a Bottle (she came out on a huge “X” with fire shooting from the back –really cool), Come On Over (an acoustic version which I really really like), and What A Girl Wants. She also sang Lady Marmalade and Etta James’s At Last, which I surprisingly loved. Her encore was Beautiful, which she sang to no crazy lighting and wearing only jeans and a white T-shirt that read “God Sees No Color.” I like that she went for the simple ending rather than the typical flashy pyrotechnics that usually signal the end of the show. All in all, I thought she was great — she definitely showcased her tremendous vocal talent.

Justin started his set with Rock Your Body. Eeeee!!! He is really a great entertainer — he has what appears to be boundless energy and has a great rapport with the audience. Not to mention that he is definitely easy on the eyes. 😛 And I love him so much more now because Kelly Kono, only my most *favorite* dancer in the world (and former back-up dancer for Janet Jackson), is dancing with him. Hee. Anyway… Justin also sang Still On My Brain, Seniorita (one of my favorite tracks), Cry Me A River (no Britney look-alike, however, to my boyfriend’s dismay), Let’s Take A Ride, as well as more upbeat versions of 2 NSync ballads, Gone and Girlfriend. The highlight of his set was when he was beatboxing from a contraption that elevated him and moved him slowly from one side of the stage to the other — he beatboxed to Planet Rock!!! And It Takes Two!!! Mmm… Old school. So happy. And finally, his encore was of course, Like I Love You. Ah, I love you Justin.

Other entertainment during the concert included —
1) seeing so many young girls (probably around 11-13) wearing completely revealing clothing. I wanted to scream “It’s really *not* nice to have guys ogle your goods. In fact, it’s creepy! And you should cover up!” Gah.

2) an almost fight between a drunk guy (he hit the girl behind him when she asked him to be quiet and sit down) and some random guy who was annoyed with all his stupid antics

I snuck my camera in via the boyfriend so I may upload some pics… I don’t know if any of them will even look good but we’ll see.

What an eventful start to my weekend — Matchbox 20 tomorrow! 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!
