congrats shirls

OK. So I was about to go to bed after typing out my last entry and then I went through my comments and found out that my old college roommate Shirley is ENGAGED. CONGRATULATIONS!!! 😀 I am so happy for you. I’m sorry I’ve been a slacker friend. We need to catch up soon.

the past week

Aaaahhh, it’s nice to be home. I feel like I’ve been “on the go” forever. But It’s been an awesome week. Here’s a rundown…

Fri, 6/23 – Start of Girls Weekend with my best friends. We went down to Palm Springs (115 degree weather! Crazy!) and stayed at the Miramonte Resort, which was fantastic. We spent Saturday relaxing, getting pampered (I had a massage… mmmm), and hanging out by the pool (well, that was me since I forgot to bring a bathing suit — I know, I know). I think we’ve pretty much decided to make Girls Weekend an annual (at the very least) tradition. I’m so looking forward to our next trip. 😀

Wed, 6/28 – Trip to LA for work. Met a client for dinner at Roy’s Restaurant in downtown LA. I had the Ahi and then shared the chocolate souffle. Phenomenal food. Headed over to The Standard in West Hollywood to check-in for the night. This hotel is a TRIP. The lobby had shag carpet and bubble chairs and my room had floral curtains and an inflatable rubber chair. Pretty awesome. My co-worker and I decided to have a drink before heading to bed and while we’re sitting in the lounge, I see a friend of mine from high school that I haven’t seen in *years.* It really is a small world.

Thurs, 6/29 – Worked out of the LA office. Nothing of significance to report.

Fri, 6/30 – Drove down to San Diego for my friend’s wedding (Rob was a groomsman). Attended the wedding rehearsal and found out that I was in charge of distributing the corsages/boutonnieres to the wedding party the next day. Fun! I love being in charge of stuff. Then a bunch of us went out for drinks with the groom. I had my signature drink (Amaretto Sour), finished the entire thing (a huge feat for me), and managed not to become a giggling mess.

Sat, 7/1 – Mike’s Wedding Day! It was an absolutely *gorgeous* wedding (the colors were teal and brown – so pretty). It was held outside at the Prado at Balboa Park. The only drawback of holding the ceremony outside was the HEAT. OMG. It was close to 100 degrees and there wasn’t much shade. To make matters worse, I apparently thought it was smart to wear a black dress. 😛 The best part of the reception was the slideshow because Mike and Emma actually put together a karaoke video! HEE. That was SO awesome. The whole wedding was incredibly well-executed. And I had such a fun time.

Sun, 7/2 – After brunch with the newlyweds, we headed back to Cerritos. Tried to take a nap but it was too hot to sleep. Had dinner with my dad (and saw 2 more people from high school! Cerritos is *such* a small town) and then went to see Nacho Libre. Sadly, I was tired from the weekend and I fell asleep too many times to count. I watched about half of the movie, I think. What I saw was pretty freaking hilarious, though.

Mon, 7/3 – Flight back to the Bay Area. You know, after all the flying I’ve done in the past week and a half, I realized that there is seriously a TON of noise on airplanes. Usually I fall asleep right away so I don’t notice the noise but the past few flights, I tried to listen to my iPod and I had to turn the volume way up. I would LOVE to get some noise-cancelling headphones. Too bad they cost an arm and a leg. Anyway, when we got home, we headed straight to the TV to watch Entourage season 1. We rented the DVDs from Netflix based on recs from both online and offline friends. We breezed right through all the episodes, heh. My favorite character is Johnny Drama with Eric a close second. Can’t wait to get season 2. I also watched High School Musical. Absolutely adored this movie. It was so cheesy but SO GOOD. I have Breaking Free on repeat right now… go here to download the song (username: cookie/password: monster — don’t forget to right click, save as…).

Tues, 7/4 – Happy 4th of July! Slept in. Felt SO good to do that. Went to see Superman Returns. SUCH a good movie. And to think when the trailer was first released this time last year, I thought the movie would be horrible. I was so wrong. Brandon Routh (what a hottie!), Kevin Spacey and even Kate Bosworth (I was most skeptical about her) were great. Yay Bryan Singer! Did I mention Brandon Routh is hot? Cause he totally is.

OMG. I just found this link to the new light pink Nintendo DS. I WANT IT SO BAD. Guh. Too bad I’m trying to go on a “spending diet” so I can save money for a vacation. Maybe for my birthday? 😀

UGH. I’m so bummed about going to work tomorrow. At least it’s a 3-day week.

palm springs

So last night I was packing for my weekend in Palm Springs (Girls’ Weekend with my best friends!!!) and I realized that I have absolutely no summer clothes. It never gets really hot where I live so I don’t have much to choose from. I was struggling to find appropriate clothes I could bring. I think I need to do some shopping… as if I really need an excuse. 😛

Anyway, I’m off for the weekend! Hope everyone has a good one!

lake house

Ahhh, it was a great weekend. It’s beginning to feel like summer in the Bay Area. I loved it.

On Saturday, I went into the city to meet Nicola for breakfast (or I guess it was lunch since it was around 11am). We went over to the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building, grabbed some breakfast sandwiches and took them over to the benches that overlooked the Bay. It was absolutely gorgeous. *happy sigh*

After a walk over to Union Square, I went dress shopping. I have 2 weddings to attend this summer (one of them in 2 weeks!) so I was on a mission. My cousin’s wedding isn’t for another month but I had to look for a dress in a particular color (sage green). That eliminates about 99% of all dresses. I started the dress search back in April so it’s been a frustrating couple of months, lol. But I finally found one! YES. Surprisingly, it’s strapless (I NEVER thought I would find a flattering strapless dress) but the best part is that it has a fun, swing-y skirt. Awww. I never did find a dress for the wedding that’s in 2 weeks so I just ordered a bunch online… I’m crossing my fingers that one of them will work. Guh.

In pop culture matters, I also saw 2 movies this weekend…

Lake House
This wasn’t a *great* movie but Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock made it work for me. I spent the entire movie wanting them to get together, hehe. I haven’t seen a good chick flick in awhile so this fit the bill.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
Rob and I have had this movie from Netflix since APRIL. BWAH. We just never got around to watching it. I ended up really enjoying it… except for the fact that I didn’t like any of the kids! Well ok, I take that back, I liked Peter but that’s it. The other 3 bugged me so much. I don’t remember having that kind of a reaction to them while reading the book. ??? I guess it’s time for a reread.

I’ve also been meaning to finish up my season finale commentaries… this is my goal before the summer is over. 😀

Vacation Update: Rob renewed his passport so it looks like we might be headed out of the country. *pumps fist*

weekend

Oh man, I had a busy (but good!) weekend. Sometimes I feel like I need a weekend from my weekend!

On Friday I learned that you should not attempt to buy guacamole on Cinco de Mayo. Rob and I were going to a friend’s for dinner (he was making carnitas, grilled shrimp, watermelon margaritas and agua fresca — YUM!) and I was in charge of bringing guacamole. OF COURSE I thought I could pick it up right before we headed over but we hit 2 grocery stores and couldn’t find a single package of guacamole. How was I supposed to know that guacamole would be sold out?!? HEH.

On Saturday morning, I headed over to Bliss Spa for a facial (Rob’s treat!). Mmmm. I also figured I should get a brow wax since I’ve never had one before and wanted to see if it would make a difference. OMG. I can’t handle the pain. I am SUCH a wimp. I liked the results (made my eyes less “droopy” looking) but… EEEKK. I don’t know if I can do that again.

Then today, Rob and I had a wedding to attend. Is it just me or is it a little strange to hold a wedding on a Sunday and at 5:00pm at that?! Maybe if it’s a long weekend or something… but people have work the next day! Well whatever, it was a great event. The ceremony and the reception were at the Mitchell Katz Winery in Pleasanton, which was so pretty. Acres and acres of grapevines surrounded the event center and the roses in the gardens were so bright and colorful. I’m such a sap that as the bridal party walked down the aisle, I started tearing up. I can’t help it! I love weddings.

laguna beach

It was a lazy weekend for me… I just love it.

I met Nicola yesterday (Rob and I took her to buy a TV) and she’s every bit as awesome as you would expect. It’s funny because I was kinda nervous about meeting her so when I opened the car door for her to get in, I wasn’t paying attention and rammed the door right into her leg. How embarrassing. Anyway, it’s so nice to finally be able to put a face to a name! 🙂

I had a Laguna Beach season 1 marathon yesterday. If you’re a fan, you definitely need to rent the DVDs, specifically the third disc. There’s lots of deleted scenes, interviews (from before and after the filming of the show) and featurettes (I especially love the one where LC shows off her house — damn, she is loaded). I don’t really have many friends who watch this show but I have some comments…

I love Kristin. There. I admit it. I know she’s snobby and loud and probably thinks a little too highly of herself… but she has fun and doesn’t care about what other people think of her. She’s great for bringing in the drama. That doesn’t mean I side with her regarding the Kristin/Stephen/LC triangle, though (I do, however, prefer Kristin and Stephen as a couple to Stephen and LC). I think Stephen’s to blame for that mess. He obviously wants to be with Kristin but can’t seem to let go of LC as the rebound girl. UGH. It makes me nuts. I can’t understand why LC just won’t move on.

Can’t stand the “brunettes,” Morgan and Christina. Why are they always talking about morals?! And is it completely horrible that I laughed when Christina had her Broadway audition? I hope she doesn’t actually believe she can make a living out of singing. :/

Love Lo and Trey — the 2 of them were like the unexpected stars for me. Trey because he was so mellow and Lo because she was so damn funny (without really meaning to be).

I’ve missed a few episodes of the second season but I can definitely say I prefer the cast of the first season far more. The second season brought Jason (total player — UGH), Alex M (awful girl who asks another girl’s boyfriend to the formal — who DOES that?), Jessica (poor girl lets Jason walk ALL over her), Taylor (Booorring), and Casey (I’m not convinced that she’s not actually a human Barbie doll). These new kids don’t hold a candle to the original cast.

OK. Enough crappy reality show talk. I need to get my fall TV schedule in order. I’ll save that for my next entry.

Last but not least — I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to Alie! 🙂

thanksgiving and other stuff

I’m so, so sad the loooong weekend is winding down. It was a good one! And I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Thanksgiving as well.

So… what have I been up to?

Last Tuesday, I flew back to southern CA to stay with my best friends for the night. I got to catch up and hang out with them (something I don’t do often cause you know, the distance and cause I’m a bad friend) and also see their apartment (that they’ve been living in for almost a year now but I haven’t seen cause of the whole bad friend thing). It was a really short visit but I had fun! Thanks guys! I hope I’ll get the chance to visit again soon.

😀

I spent the rest of the week at my dad’s house and had Thanksgiving with the usual suspects — my aunt, cousins, their significant others. My cousin hosted the dinner at his condo and he even cooked! Which is something he never used to do. His girlfriend seems to be domesticating him, hee. He made/bought a TON of food (not really your “typical” Thanksgiving fare but yummy all the same) — salad, corn chowder, 2(!) whole chickens, roast beef, garlic mashed potatoes , grilled salmon, baked macaroni, fruit salad, and apple pie. OMG. YUM. I ate so much. The whole dinner made me rethink the whole “I don’t like to cook” thing that I have. I even went so far as to pick up an issue of Everyday Food, which was recommended to me by the lovely Keenai. The worst thing about cooking to me is that it can take so long. I hate coming home from work and having to spend another few hours in the kitchen but a lot of the recipes in the magazine seem to require minimal prep time. So yeah, my very first New Year’s resolution (I realize it’s early but what the heck) is to learn how to cook and do it more often. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I also braved the crazy crowds on Black Friday to do a little shopping. Didn’t buy anything though. Well, my dad bought me a new suitcase but that doesn’t count cause I didn’t pay for it. I flew back home on Friday night (I just needed some time for myself plus the fare was a lot less expensive) and when I got home, I was browsing the Target website and saw that BtVS s7 and Dawson’s Creek s4 were on sale for $17.77. !!! I called the boyfriend (who was still in LA) and managed to get him to hunt them down. He went to 3 different stores but finally managed to snag a few copies. I already have DC s4 but I’m sure I can find someone to give it to for Christmas! Or maybe I can sell it on eBay. Hee.

Anyway, thanks everybody for the great comments in my entry below. I guess I had some momentary lapse of insanity when I said I would close my blog down. This is my home and I won’t be moving over to LJ. So, yay and all that.

Extending this entry a bit more by doing the Fannish Friday 5

What are your five favorite relationships in your fandom(s)?
1. Pacey and Joey, Dawson’s Creek. Like you all didn’t know that one! They’re just *it* for me. I lurve them.
2. Ephram and Amy, Everwood. They weren’t the ‘ship that I was originally drawn to on this show (that would be Colin and Amy) but in the past 2 seasons, I’ve really enjoyed watching them fumble through their friendship first and now their relationship. They just make me go “Aww.”
3. Harry and Hermione, Harry Potter. They work. They just do.
4. Anne and Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables. Probably my first ship ever.
5. Ryan and Seth, The OC. Disregarding the sexual tension these two seem to have in their scenes, I just feel like they have a really good friendship. Plus, they’re OMGSOCUTE!

I am so depressed at the thought of going back to work tomorrow.

birthday wrap-up

Many, many thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! It was so nice to get phone calls, emails, comments and shout-outs from you all. I still have a huge smile on my face thinking of all the sweet greetings.

I had a fantastic day and weekend, for that matter. My best friend Robyn was in town and I had a blast hanging out with her. I don’t see her that often cause she lives in Southern California so it’s always a good time when we get together, hehe. She arrived on Thursday night and we caught up on some TV — The Apprentice (we couldn’t believe Pamela was fired; it should have been Stacy), Joey (Joey performing the Shakespeare monologue followed by the cowboy dancing was hilarious), and Smallville (poor, poor Chloe but I have to say that Clark and Lois were really cute in the final scene).

We woke up early on Friday morning (pretty much unheard of for me) because Rob cooked us breakfast! Yum, I love the perks of having a guest. We then proceeded to spend the next 2 days eating (go to Swan Oyster Depot if you like fresh seafood), shopping (we hit the Haight Street and Chestnut Street shopping neighborhoods in the city), and running around trying all the exhibits at the Exploratorium (*so* fun). Phew. We woke up really early each day and stayed up late so on Sunday after Robyn left (*sniff*), I spent a good part of the day sleeping. Ahhh, it felt so good.

So today on my actual birthday I didn’t really do anything special… Rob’s car had a flat tire so we took it to the shop and while we waited for it to get fixed, we walked around at Cal. I know I spent 4 years there but I can never quite get over how gorgeous and inspiring the campus is. We took along the camera so we snapped a bunch of shots that I hope I’ll be able upload — just so that you can all see what I’m talking about. We didn’t do much else — went shopping so I could continue the search for a pair of boots (I ended up really wanting a pair of Uggs — I used to hate the trendiness of them but now I think they’re kinda cute, heh) and also so I could admire an audio system that I want for my iPod (I think Rob’s going to get it for me — squee, I’m so spoiled!). Tnen we went to dinner, had the most amazing chocolate raspberry truffle cake (I don’t even want to think about how many calories I consumed this past weekend), and even made it home to catch Everwood.

All in all, I’m so happy. I had a great few days… though I’m still in denial about turning 25. Eek.

😉

friends is no more

Friends and ER blubberings…

“Let’s go get coffee.”

“Where?”

*sobs*

I still can’t believe Friends is OVER. I really enjoyed the finale (but then I’m easy to please, I think ;)) — I thought it was equal parts funny, sad and touching. I loved the return of the chick, the duck and Phoebe’s cab. I loved Monica wearing my purple/green scarf (from Banana Republic). I loved Monica and Chandler getting twins. I loved Gunther telling Rachel he loves her. I loved Phoebe driving Ross to the airport… twice. I loved Ross and Rachel finally getting it together. And I was hit with sadness when all six friends gave up their keys to the apartment.

Bye Friends, I’m going to miss you.

I’m so going to get the DVD.

As for ER, poor Carter and Kem. 🙁 Their storyline was tough to watch, especially at the end when they were holding their baby… *sobs more*

finales

*sniff* So I just got done finished crying over The O.C. (Seth! Ryan! Noooo!) and now I find myself watching the Friends Dateline special. It’s so depressing! I just can’t *CAN’T* believe Friends will be over tomorrow. I’ve watched the show since the beginning and it makes me sad to think I won’t be able to turn on the TV on Thursday nights at 8pm and laugh at the antics of those six crazy kids. 🙁 Especially Chandler! I lurve him. He’s the greatest — can he *be* any funnier? *sigh* I’m going to miss the show something fierce (tm Pacey).
