… and i’m back

… so I’m back.

The downtime and server trouble is one long frustrating story that I just don’t want to get into right now. Blah. *So* not what I needed right now what with the holidays approaching and work causing enough stress. Sadly I lost a few months of blog entries but no sites or databases. Phew… my paranoia pays off finally. I’m just so sad that some of my hostees lost their files — I hope no one is too mad at me. I feel responsible. 🙁 Bad server.

Anyway, I turned the downtime into a mini-hiatus for myself. I wasn’t on the internet as much as I usually am and I actually had the time to do stuff I keep telling myself I have to do like clean out my exploding closet, bring donations to Goodwill, make my travel arrangements for the holidays, etc. I also found myself watching tons of movies — I saw…

Love Actually — RAVE! I adore this movie — Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman… need I say more? 😉
Elf — Another RAVE! Too funny. “Santa! I know him!” Bwah. Will Ferrell rocks.
Matrix Revolutions — Errr. I’m torn. It was a good movie but as the ending to the trilogy? A little disappointing, I have to say.
Scary Movie 3 — Funny but totally forgettable. Cool cameos though.
Gangs of New York — I’ve heard so many bad reviews about this movie but I really enjoyed it. Leo and Daniel Day-Lewis were excellent.
Terminator 3 — Meh. I expected more — and all I got was a set up for T4. I watched this and kept thinking, “omg, Arnold is going to be the governor of my state in a few days.” So weird.

I think that’s it. OH! OMG! I finally downloaded the new Harry Potter trailer. Eeee! It has a really haunting feel to it. I wish it was June already, lol.

But for now, I’m just excited for tomorrow — right after work, I’m going to head over to Best Buy to pick up the new Britney album (yes, I’m a Britney fan :P), the extended edition of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and hopefully the season 1 DVD set of The West Wing. After tomorrow I’m not going to have any money left for Christmas presents! Hehe.

And I’m off to catch up on my dailies… it’s been so long…

bad work day

I’ve only been at work for about an hour and already I’ve had 3(!)… incidents. First, I arrive at work and check my voicemail — there’s a message from a potential client which I accidentally delete instead of save. So now this person is expecting a phone call from me but I don’t have her phone number because I didn’t write it down. So I obviously can’t call her back. Doh! Then, at around 9:30, I decide that I’m going to go get coffee downstairs at Starbucks. I get into the elevator, it’s going down and then it just stops. Agghhh! I had no idea where I was because the light that says what floor you’re on isn’t functioning. Maybe I was between floors, who knows. Then the elevator door starts making a weird buzzing noise like it’s trying to open but is stuck. I was only in the elevator for a few minutes but I was already starting to panic. I was about to press the emergency button when the door finally stopped making noise and the elevator finished going down. I pretty much ran out of there as quickly as I could. I got my coffee with no injuries but I’m forced to take the elevator back upstairs. I don’t want to but I don’t want to climb up the stairs even more. 9 floors, no way. Laziness always wins, lol. Anyway, I get to my office and guess what? I locked myself out. No one but security has keys to my office so I have to go up 2 floors and fill out all this paperwork just to be let back inside. GAH. I’m finally back here and now I’m so traumatized by the first hour of my day that I think I should just go home. I mean, they can’t expect me to be productive now, right? 😉 Hee. I wish.

work can be evil

Had a horrible, horrible day at work.

My boss was in town today and she just has this really unique way of stressing me the fuck out. GAH.

Normally she works out of our Los Angeles office so it’s just us minions here in San Francisco working on the projects she gives us. (Advertising does have some perks — we have access to really great pictures and it’s completely normal for anyone to be playing with PhotoShop throughout the day. yay.) Anyway, today is one of my boss’s designated days here in the Bay Area and she spent most of it dropping work in my inbox tray and then emailing me 5 minutes later asking if it was done yet. Ugh. First of all, it takes much longer than 5 minutes to do research, compile the findings into some sort of presentation, and then print and bind the darn thing. I mean, the printing alone can take 5 minutes! Crazy woman. Then, of course, she kept coming over to my desk over and over to check on the progress of the presentation, which is so annoying. Not to mention extremely distracting. I mean, I *know* there’s a deadline and I *know* I need to finish it as soon as possible — so there’s really no need to hover over my desk the whole damn time. AND all the while she kept giving me OTHER projects to work on that all needed to be finished at the same time because you know, I’m SuperHuman. She made me want to scream and cry all at the same time.

Or you know, maybe I’m just being dramatic because it’s that time of the month. Yes yes yes, too much info. Too bad for you. Humph.

uneventful weekend

I’ve had a pretty uneventful weekend.

I’m not complaining though — I’ve been able to relax and catch up on some much-needed sleep. I love sleep. Let’s see, I spent the entire 4th of July inside my apartment. No joke. I didn’t even go out to watch fireworks. To make up for our laziness, my boyfriend and I paraded around our apartment wearing T-shirts with the good old US flag imprinted on them. Good stuff. I watched a lot of Real World: Paris though. This cast annoys me so. much. They have a great opportunity in their hands — they get to write for Frommer’s travel guide — yet they act so ungrateful when they have actual responsibilities. I mean, I would gladly live in Paris and write about the attractions, restaurants and shopping that I experienced while I was there. They’re so lucky to have a great job handed to them and they don’t even act like they appreciate it. Ugh. That bugs me.

Anyway, today I actually ventured into the outside world. Rob and I went to go see Legally Blonde 2, which was a really cheesy and corny movie but lots of fun. I didn’t like it as much as the first one — but I think that’s mostly because the first one was new and fresh while this one really felt like a sequel. Oh, but Luke Wilson looked really hot — yes, he did. 😛

My roommate’s mom is visiting for the weekend and she is totally spoiling us all. She’s been cooking all our meals and helping us clean the apartment. It’s really cute how parents get when they know you can take care of yourself — all of a sudden they want to be the ones to do everything for you, like they still want to be needed. It’s completely adorable. My dad acts the same way when I go home to visit him — we’ll go shopping and he’ll insist on buying me stuff even though he knows I make my own money now and can afford to buy things I need. It’s such a sweet gesture though and who am I to refuse? 😉

I’ve also just started watching Trading Spaces — you know, that show on TLC where people trade houses for 2 days and they redecorate a designated room with the help of professional designers. Well, my roommate Jimmy is addicted to this show and he watches it every time it’s on, which is like 99% of the day so by default, I’ve been watching it as well. I never realized just how interesting it is — sometimes it gives me ideas but most of the time, the things they do to the rooms seriously terrify me. There was one little boy’s room where the designer hung a trellice from the ceiling and attached Japanese lanterns to it — ugh! And another time, there was a guest room in which the designer was going for a garden theme and proceeded to install astroturf to the floor and surrounded the bed with a white picket fence. I kid you not. It was awful. I would be surprised if the owners didn’t immediately switch everything back to the original setup. Hee.

Umm, it’s about 3am now — where DOES the time GO?!? I suppose it’s time for bed. 🙂

gossip and catching up

I talked to one of my best friends on the phone tonight for the first time in such a long time. It felt so good to gossip and catch up with her cause it’s been *so* long since we’ve done that. I’m really horrible at keeping in touch and going to colleges in different parts of the state didn’t help. But it makes me so happy to know that in our case, growing up doesn’t mean growing apart. I may not know what goes on in her daily life but I know the big things, the important things. And that means a lot to me.

I used to think it was weird that I would still call Carmen my “best friend” when the reality was that we would only see each other maybe twice a year when I would visit Southern CA or that we only talked on birthdays and holidays. I thought that maybe I was just being nostalgic because we were so close back in high school and because of my painfully shy nature I didn’t have too many close friends in college or maybe I was just kidding myself and I didn’t want to believe that we weren’t each other’s best friends anymore. I was so confused about her place in my life and vice versa that I forgot that she really does know me best. We’ve known each other since we were like 6 and she’s been witness to and even shared some of my best and worst moments — and that’s something I won’t be able to share with anyone else. Even though we don’t see each other often, when we do, it’s so easy to get back in the groove of talking and laughing and enjoying one another’s company.

Hmm. I just realized that I rarely talk about anything personal on my blog — I hope I didn’t bore anyone to tears with my rambling. I had some thoughts in my head and I just really needed to write them down. My apologies if anything above makes absolutely no sense. Since graduating from college, I have pretty much forgotten all rules of proper grammer. I’m sure I put those damn commas in the wrong places and I make use of the fabulous run-on sentence far too much. I’m also heavily medicated at the moment (yes, I’m sick for what’s like the 10th time this year) so I’m sitting in front of the computer in a bit of a haze. Anyway. Time for bed.

airport stories

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! 🙂 Mine went by way too quickly — I’m so not in the mood to go back to work tomorrow. The thought makes me shudder. Gah.

My weekend started Friday night when I went to the airport for my flight to visit my dad for Father’s Day weekend. So I’m going through the security checkpoint and as I’m waiting to be told to go through the metal detector, this crazy woman behind me gets right up on my ass and says to me, “Hurry! I’m late for my flight — it’s going to leave in a few minutes!” I’m thinking why the heck did she wait until *now* to get to the airport and would she please get off my back! I mean, I *can’t* go anywhere until the nice security man tells me it’s okay. So we finally go through the metal detector and we’re waiting for our personal belongings to come down the conveyor belt and as the bin with my purse, jacket and backpack gets closer, the aforementioned crazy woman starts touching all my stuff. (!!!) I can’t stand it when people do that!

So anyway, I’m in SoCal and my dad and I are going out to eat and shopping and other fun father-daughter stuff, but I just can’t enjoy myself cause it’s so freakishly HOT! I had forgotten just how torturous summers in Cerritos can be. I was so uncomfortable and could feel the beginning of a headache so we went back home and I spent a good part of my Saturday sleeping. Heh. Aside from that, I had a good weekend — spent lots of quality time with the family.

Doing the Seven on Sunday:

1. What was the last album you purchased? What did you think of it?
No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls by Simple Plan. It’s a good CD — nothing to gush about or anything. It’s just something fun I enjoy listening to while I’m hard at work surfing the net or making wallpapers.

2. Is there one album in your collection that even you can’t believe you own? If so, why did you buy it? Eh… any of my 98 Degrees CDs. I thought Jeff was really cute so I expressed my fangirliness by purchasing their CDs. I’m really embarassed about the Christmas one, which is actually a really horrible CD. Oy vey.

3. What new/fairly new song are you currently loving
I’m all about Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake. It’s one of those songs that gets in your head, you know? Plus, it’s an all-around groovy song.

4. Found a song you love and it’s the only one you know by that artist… Do you buy the whole CD and hope some of it’s as good as the one, or download the one and forget the rest?
It depends on the artist — if it’s some random rap/hip hop song, then I’ll download it but if it’s anything else, chances are I’ll buy the CD.

5. Are there any songs you can listen to over and over again and just not get sick of?
I’m one of those people who doesn’t get sick of songs easily — I can listen to something forever. Seriously. But if I’m forced to pick then… it would have to be anything by Dashboard Confessional and David Gray.

6. Any songs you wouldn’t mind never ever hearing again?
Mmmm… the only thing that comes to mind right now is Baby Got Back. I’m sure there are others though.

7. Where do you like to listen to your music?
In my room. Usually when I’m working on my computer or cleaning my room.

Argh!!! The NJ Nets lost! Grrr.

Oh, whee! My new roomie is moving in and he has a TIVO! Score!

Kate, how does tomorrow sound? I’m SO sorry. *flashes sweet smile*

whitney hs: school of dreams?

Huh. I came across this book today. It’s a book that’s being written about my high school. So weird. I might have to buy it so I can see if the author’s observations match up to my own memories of the Whitney High School experience. Reading the summary about the book made me laugh though — “What does a top public school look like? In the case of Whitney High, it’s a ramshackle campus in an unfashionable part of L.A., where the budgets are tight and the student body resembles a mini United Nations… But attending a dream high school carries a toll: high-achieving, high-pressured kids survive on espresso and four hours’ sleep and fall into despair if they get a B. Forget Generation X. This is Generation Stressed.” BWAH! So true. The campus really was awful — it was tiny, the carpeting sucked, the lockers were a hideous orange color, and until just a few years ago, we didn’t have a gym (of course, it was built after I graduated). And I believe there’s still no football team. As for the stressful environment, I can definitely attest to that. I think the school in itself was hyped up so much that we all thought we needed to live up to the reputation. Not to mention the pressure coming from parents, teachers, and even each other. It definitely was not a typical high school experience. But I have to admit that I kinda miss it. Good times, good times. I do have to say that I take a little bit of offense that Cerritos is considered “unfashionable.” It’s not *that* bad. Humph.

Time for the Friday Five:

What brand of toothpaste do you use?
Colgate. The Winterfresh flavor, with the green and white stripes. 😀

What brand of toilet paper do you prefer?
Eh… what?! Well, if I must… I like Quilted Northern.

What brand(s) of shoes do you wear?
Let’s see… I tend to buy Nine West and Kenneth Cole for my dressier shoes while I like Diesel and Steve Madden for my sneakers and casual shoes.

What brand of soda do you drink?
I like Coke, Sprite and Mountain Dew.

What brand of gum do you chew?
Wrigley’s Doublemint is it for me!

Ok, off to bed — only a half day of work for me tomorrow! 9am-noon, baby! AND it’s a 3-day weekend. Woohoo!

jackpot

I have work tomorrow from 8-11am. SCORE! 🙂

I’m going to do a little shopping in the city. Fun fun fun. I don’t even understand why I need to go in to work. Oh well. I’m not complaining.

I realized today that kids freak me out. My boss brought her 7-year old son to work today and of course, while she was out at meetings, *I* was the one who got to watch over him and keep him entertained. I swear, I don’t think I ever want to have kids now. He’s the sweetest boy — but he was so damn hyper! Gah, he made my head spin

Friday Five:

Who is your favorite celebrity?
Joshua Jackson. Just cause he’s cute. 😛

Who is your least favorite?
J. Lo. There’s just something about her that really bugs me.

Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life?
When I was 15, I was flying from LA to San Francisco and Alicia Silverstone was on my flight. It was the summer that Clueless came out so she was swarmed by quite a few teenage boys who wanted to take pictures with her. I also saw Tracey Gold (Carol Seaver from Growing Pains) when I was at Universal City Walk. Or at least I remember thinking that was her.

Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?
No, not really — I like my anonymity too much. 🙂

If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?
Either Katie Holmes or Michelle Williams. They get to work with Josh Jackson. What could be better than that? 😉

BTW, Becca, Nicola and Angie — I haven’t forgotten about your requests! I will try to get it done tomorrow when I get home. Yay for short work days!

pipe dream

Ok, so going to Wilmington in April is definitely a pipe dream. I spent all weekend going back and forth about whether or not I can actually afford it. And as much as it pains me to say it, I finally decided that I can’t spare the money right now. Waahhh.

But I did get the boyfriend to agree to take me in August. Woohoo! The cast of Dawson’s Creek will probably be long gone but at least I’ll get the chance to see the place where my favorite show was filmed. And I’ll probably be able to stay a lot longer than I would have had I gone through with going in a few weeks. Thanks to everyone who volunteered to go with me though! 🙂 What an adventure that would have been!

Anyway, don’t forget that the DC reruns start tomorrow on TBS. I still can’t believe that they start at 5AM(!) for us on the West Coast. I mean, honestly, who watches TV at that time? Weird.

And yay for Michelle Kwan! I’m so happy that she won the World Championships yesterday. Her performance was nothing short of amazing. I felt a surge of happy emotion during her entire long program. As soon as she took the ice, I just knew she was going to be perfect — she rocked her triple jumps and I loved her straight line footwork. *sigh* I wish that Sasha Cohen and Sarah Hughes had pulled it together, though — it would have been awesome to see a US sweep. I really do think that we had the most depth and technique on our team compared to the rest of the countries in attendance. Must watch it again, hee.

girl scout cookies

Girl Scout Cookies are going to be the death of me.

When I get to the train station after work, those Girls Scouts (they’re evil, I tell you!) are there… taunting me with their Samoas and Thin Mints and Lemon Cremes and Shortbread. It’s insane how compelled I feel to walk closer and closer to the table and shell out money just for a few boxes that I’ll most likely consume in the span of an hour. I severely lack control when it comes to cookies. Yuuummm.

Wow… look at me! I’m actively spreading the Everwood love! 🙂 First it was Alie and now Kate and Marianne too. *happy sigh*
