my weekend

Wow, I haven’t blogged in almost a week! I am so lazy. Really.

What have I been up to?

Well, I bought the new Kelly Clarkson CD, which I love. I’ve been listening to it practically non-stop. I particularly recommend Since U Been Gone, Because of You, and Addicted. Kelly has the most amazing voice — it’s so emotional and just rich. Everyone needs to check it out!

I also bought my Christmas tree this weekend! Squee! It smells so great, it’s all decorated and lit, and I can’t stop staring at it! I’m such a Christmas fangirl (if there *is* such a thing). I still have about half of my Christmas shopping to do though and of course, it’s for all the difficult and extremely picky people ie. my aunts, roommate Jimmy, older cousin, and Rob’s brother and wife. Anyone want to inspire me with some suggestions?

I’m so sad that Cal’s not going to the Rose Bowl. I don’t really follow college football, to be honest, but I *am* a proud Golden Bear and would have loved to see the team make it to that bowl game.

Heads up! I read on TV Shows on DVD that select HBO/Warner DVD sets are 50% off at Amazon. The highlights (to me, anyway) are: Gilmore Girls s1 ($29.99), Smallville s2 ($29.99), and The West Wing s1 and 2 ($29.99). I’m thinking of getting the SMVL and WW sets but I feel bad spending money on myself when I should be saving it for the presents I still have to buy… decisions, decisions.

Now for the Fannish Five

Name the five scenes that make you melt in True Fannish Love. Every. Single. Time.
1. Pacey and Joey (Dawson’s Creek) leaving Capeside for a summer together on the True Love (in season 3’s finale). The header image above is from this scene. *So* squee-worthy.
2. Ephram and Amy (Everwood) saying “I love you” to one another in Staking Claim. Just perfect.
3. Gilbert’s marriage proposal to Anne in the final scene of Anne of Avonlea (the movie). I just love it when Anne says “I don’t want sunbursts or marble halls. I just want you.” Awww.
4. Michael letting Maria (Roswell) “see” him in The Departure.
5. Nathan going to see Haley (One Tree Hill) after being released from the hospital in With Arms Outstretched. I just melt when he says “Then I saw you.. I promised myself that if I could just get up, and walk over to you, and tell you how much I need you, how much I want you, then nothing else matters.”

And an extra one for good measure…
6. Joe running to the airport to see Jess in Bend It Like Beckham. “I can’t let you go without knowing… we might still have something.” Guh.

ama’s

The American Music Awards were actually watchable this year. It had its moments of eyroll-inducing banter, of course. But I guess that’s nothing new.

I liked all the performances for the most part — I especially enjoyed Kanye West (BWAH! Workout Plan is the funniest song), John Mayer (his set looked really cool in black and white), Maroon 5 (I think I have a crush on the drummer — what’s his name?!), Alicia Keys (she looked gorgeous with her hair up), and Snoop Doog and Pharrell (Drop It Like It’s Hot is my current song of the moment — loved seeing Pharrell dance, hee!).

I was really looking forward to Usher and Alicia Keys singing My Boo… but there was something *off* about their performance. During part of it, Alicia Keys wasn’t even singing. ?? It was weird.

I can’t believe Lenny Kravitz sang that Lady song again. Every time I go into the GAP, that song is playing. I half expected Sarah Jessica Parker to come out and dance with him.

WHAT was UP with Anna Nicole Smith?

Still don’t like Fantasia. Or her new song.

Speaking of American Idols, it was good to see Kelly Clarkson again. Squee! Her dress was preeettyy. I can’t wait for her new album.

Everything else was pretty forgettable.

Anyway, hope everyone has a good week!

dc s4 dvds

Squee! Dawson’s Creek season 4 DVDs on Tuesday!

😀

But I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do some complaining… about the music changes, of course. Here’s the comprehensive list of replacement songs for the DVD release…

— The song I’m most depressed about losing is David Gray’s This Year’s Love. It was played over the final Pacey/Joey scene in the season premiere, which is one of my most favorite moments of the show. Ever. Sniffle. That song, to me, was like the theme for Pacey and Joey’s relationship in this season… *sigh*

Superman didn’t make the cut in 402. They messed with another one of my favorite Pacey/Joey scenes! * shakes fist*

— Yes! Never Saw Blue Like That in 403 is intact. Phew. I’ve always loved the way this song gave the Dawson/Pacey scene a hopeful tone.

Crazy For This Girl in 408 is gone, which is so bizarre to me because the song is on the official soundtrack (Volume 2). I guess they didn’t get clearance for the DVDs when that deal was inked. *shrugs*

— I have to say that I’m not all that sad to see that Takes My Breath Away was replaced in 414. I know that it’s played over a particularly significant Pacey/Joey scene but… I just wasn’t all that crazy about the song itself. I’m interested to hear the replacement.

— Bye bye to In the Sun from 416. This song introduced me to Joseph Arthur so I’m sad to see it go.

— I’m in shock (SHOCK, I tell you!) that Sweet Jane has been replaced in 418. Jen and Dr. Frost talk about the song in the first act so when it plays during the montage at the end, it serves as kind of a nice bookend to the episode. GUH.

— Another disappointment. No more Waiting For My Real Life To Begin in 421. This is from my second favorite Dawson/Joey scene of the season (the first being their scene together in Self-Reliance). Bah. It’s like all my favorites — gone!

— Well, at least they kept Fields Of Gold in 422. That’s a plus.

ARGH. I’m so conflicted. I love having DC on DVD but it’s not the same knowing that they’re not the “original” episodes.

team USA gets the silver!

YAYYY!!! The US women gymnasts won the silver!

😀

Oh man, what an exciting meet. I really thought Team USA had a chance but the Romanians were freaking fabulous. Wow. They really were the best team out there.

More thoughtful comments tomorrow… I’m sleepy.

Huh. I can’t seem to rip my new Jamie Cullum CD (highly recommended, by the way!). *grumble, grumble*

britney concert

Girl Scout cookie time! YUM. I bought 2 boxes today. Gah. No self-control whatsoever.

Anyway, I had loads of fun at the Britney concert! I’m such a Britney fangirl, hee. It was a sold out show and I was very surprised that it was a much, much older crowd than her previous tour. This time I didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Hee.

Here’s the set list and costume changes rundown, lol.

Opening — Britney came out on a moving platform wearing a skintight black leather catsuit
Toxic
Overprotected
Boys
Showdown

Lounge Club/Cabaret Themed — she changed into a racy pink underwear ensemble and black fishnet stockings
Baby One More Time (I did not like this remix AT ALL. Too slow and jazz-y for me. Give me the pop tart version any day.)
Oops… I Did it Again
Crazy (YAY! An oldie but goodie!)

Jungle/Garden Themed — she wore a gorgeous blue/green/yellow dress
Everytime (She played the piano for the first few verses!)
The Hook Up
I’m a Slave 4 U (probably one of my most favorite performances of the night — loved the choreography and the dancing)

Cirque de Soleil Themed — she was elevated on a swing and was wearing another gorgeous blue dress
Shadow

Bedroom Themed — Whoa! Britney came out wearing a fluffy white bathrobe which she took off to reveal the diamond suit from the Toxic video! Guys in the audience were DYING.
Touch of my Hand (lots of uh, touching)
Breathe On Me (she quickly changed into another pink bra and panties set and danced intimately on a bed with one of her dancers)
Outrageous

Closing — she wore a cute pink tank top with baggy pants
(I Got That) Boom Boom (another audience favorite — very fun and totally high energy)

The encore was Me Against the Music which to be honest, left me a little underwhelmed. It was the same performance that I’ve seen at all the award shows and appearances that she’s done. She was even wearing the same suit and jacket outfit as her video (but it was a beautiful shade of red). Well, whatever — the rest of the concert was great fun so I can overlook the encore. 😉

Hopefully I’ll get the chance to scan the tourbook this weekend — lots of pretty pretty pics!

random

Totally random blog cause I’m medicated and just a little bit loopy…

In addition to being sick this past week, I lost a contact lens. So I had to wear my glasses. Guh. I have a really high prescription and my glasses are *heavy.* They weigh down on my face and give me a headache after a few hours of wearing them. They are evil. I have to wait a week, I think, for my new contact lens. This upsets me.

I’m also upset because I don’t have a 3-day weekend like the rest of my company. Humph. My division doesn’t have Monday off. Apparently we don’t recognize President’s Day as a holiday.

I also realize that my creekdaze domain is redirecting to some other site. My registrar messed up. %$#@! They keep telling me that it’s going to be fixed soon… *screams*

Some good news — I got my Britney Spears tickets! Hee. I didn’t manage to score free tickets from work but a co-worker did give me a head’s up when a second round of tickets was released to the general public. They’re lower level tickets but they’re pretty far back. Not as good as I would have liked but it’s cool. The only down side is that the concert is on a Tuesday (March 9)! Madness.

Okee dokee… gonna go get ready for Valentine’s Day dinner with Rob. 🙂 We’re going to have seafood. Mmm… YUM.

grammys

Warning!!!

Do NOT read the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly (the one with the Survivor people on the cover) if you want to remain unspoiled about tomorrow’s episode of Everwood (No Sure Thing). They gave away a MAJOR plot point. I confirmed it by venturing over to a few spoilers forums. There goes being unspoiled. UGH.

THANKS A LOT. Humph.

My running commentary on the Grammys…
I have a crush on Pharrell and Chad from N.E.R.D. I just think they’re so cute. AND they’re all multi-talented and stuff. Hee.

Beyonce. Loved her hair in the performance with Prince. She looked gorgeous. Not crazy about the dress though. I rarely like anything that pink.

Christina. Her performance rocked but what was with the hair?!? Ghastly. And what was with her red carpet dress?

Matthew Perry and John Mayer. *giggles* LOVE them BOTH. I loved seeing them present together. And seriously? I had *no* idea JM was so tall. He was totally towering over MP.

Andre from Outkast had THE BEST acceptance speech. EVER. “Thank you.” BWAH.

LOVED LOVED LOVED Amber Tamblyn’s pin-striped pants. I need to get myself a pair. 🙂

Justin, I love you. But seriously, I wish you hadn’t brought up the whole Super Bowl debacle. Guh. Everyone just needs to get over it.

Ugh. Audio/mic problems. What a surprise. Sad that it had to be during the whole Luther Vandross tribute. Awww! Luther! Singing Power of Love! *sniff*

So kill me but I enjoyed Justin’s Senorita performance and the Black Eyed Peas’s Where Is the Love performance. I have a soft spot for both songs. Heh.

However, I did NOT enjoy Beyonce’s Dangerously In Love performance. Just… meh.

Norah Jones and Sean Astin. They rock. (Plugging Norah’s new album Feels Like Home — out on 2/10!). Hee.

Why in the world is Samuel L. Jackson yelling like that?!? Bizarre.

Eeee! The Way You Move!!! *dances*

Eh… I stopped watching after the Earth, Wind and Fire/Outkast performance. I was dying — it was *that* boring. And long. Geesh — 19 performances? I thought this was an awards show. Crazy.

janet and justin

So I didn’t watch the Super Bowl but I always make it a point to watch the halftime show. I thought it was pretty… meh. Even Janet and Justin couldn’t save it for me. And I normally love them.

Remember when I was all upset because I didn’t get tickets to the upcoming Britney Spears tour? Well, I just found out some news that may or may not help me out. It turns out that my company is producing the tour. !!! There *has* to be some way for me to score some tickets. Right?!? I just need to find the right people. This will be my goal at work tomorrow. Hehe.

dc series finale fanlisting

Okay, so I wanted this to be a surprise but Linda found out (:P) so here it is…

Dawson’s Creek Finale Fanlisting

Please join! 🙂

As for the Matchbox 20 concert — Eeeeeeeee! Rob Thomas!!! His voice! Mmmmm. Eeeeeeeee!

*ahem*

So the concert started out with American Hi-Fi. I was outside getting food for most of their set so I didn’t really get to hear much of it — I did see them perform Flavor of the Weak (the only song of theirs that I know) and they were really good. Very high energy and their lead singer is so funny. Right before FotW, he said “I know all of you are thinking ‘Who are these guys?’ Well, I’ve noticed that this next song is the one that has people nudging their neighbors and saying ‘Oh! These guys!'” Heh. That’s exactly what I was thinking.

Sugar Ray was up next — I find Mark McGrath’s voice to be completely lackluster and most of their songs to be completely forgettable (Please don’t hate me!) but they totally entertained me! And wow, Mark McGrath is so cute in person. Wow. Their last song was Fly — and to my surprise, Mark McGrath ran off the stage and ran around the entire lower level of the arena. And then he stopped right in front of my section — he was seriously like 5 rows in front of me! He picked up a girl from the first row who was about 13 and asked her to sing the chorus with him. She was so cute — he was hugging her and they were singing together. That was good stuff.

Then of course Matchbox 20 — The entire time they performed, I had such a huge silly smile on my face. But how could I not?!? Rob Thomas just has one of those voices that gets to you. It’s intense and powerful and so sexy. They opened up with Disease and sang Mad Season, 3 AM, Bright Lights, All I Need, Could I Be You, You’re So Real, Unwell, Real World, Tears for Fears’s Everybody Wants to Rule the World, and a few others that I can’t think of right now. (I have a horrible memory). Between songs, Rob made some really funny comments — about midway through their set, he was like “How are you all feeling?! We got so much more show for you! So if you’re not enjoying yourself yet, then I don’t think we can do anything for you.” Hee. It really was funny! I guess you had to be there. And then later, towards the end of the show, Rob was looking at the people in the upper levels and then he said, “I don’t want to scare anyone, but there is a giant pig up there.” It turns out that someone dressed up in a pink, fuzzy pig costume. I’m talking full body costume with a huge head. So Rob asked “Can we get the pig to come on the stage? I came all the way to San Jose just to see a pig dance across this stage.” So the pig’s friends walked him/her down and for about 5 minutes, every few seconds Rob was like “What’s the status on the pig? Is it coming?” It was hilarious — the guys were just playing some random song and everyone in the arena was standing up trying to see where the pig was. When the pig finally got on stage, it danced around with Rob. Bwah, that was classic. (Apparently, the pig was handing out flyers in support of PETA). Anyway, they ended the night with Push, which was ahhhh… perfect. I’m so glad I had the chance to see them — my new roommate is a HUGE fan and he got the tickets for us. Thanks roomie!

[edited to say: Linda, I got your email — I gotta head to bed now but I will email you, definitely. :)]

justin and christina rock

omg, the Justified/Stripped concert seriously blew me away. It was so. good. Even the boyfriend enjoyed it. He went so far as to say that Justin was entertaining. Hee, I think I’ve turned him into a Justin fan. 😛 And our seats were awesome — lower level, 15th row, right smack dab in the center.

Black Eyed Peas opened up with Joints and Jam. Eeeeee!!! <— This was me. Man, this song takes me back to my college days –when I had a crush on my current boyfriend and he would play it in the car when we would go out. *sigh* And my college roommate (Shirley! *waves*) downloaded it and played it in our room sometimes. Ah, memories. Anyway, BEP played a bunch of other songs from their upcoming album and they rocked. They were so high energy and crazy, especially Taboo. What a great way to start the concert. I didn’t even know they were the opening act so it was a total surprise to me and the boyfriend (he really likes them).

Christina was up first with Dirty. I used to hate this song (still despise the video) but after hearing it so many times on the radio, it’s grown on me. Perfect way for her to get the crowd (which was more on the older side than on the teeny-bopper side) up on their feet and dancing in their seats. Good times, good times. Most songs she performed were from StrippedA Voice Within (powerful ballad), Infatuation (definite crowd-pleaser), Get Mine Get Yours, So Impossible, Can’t Hold Us Down (which she sang from a motorcycle), Walk Away (very sexual imagery with a hot guy gyrating in the background), and Fighter. As for her older material, she did updated versions of the most popular 3 — Genie in a Bottle (she came out on a huge “X” with fire shooting from the back –really cool), Come On Over (an acoustic version which I really really like), and What A Girl Wants. She also sang Lady Marmalade and Etta James’s At Last, which I surprisingly loved. Her encore was Beautiful, which she sang to no crazy lighting and wearing only jeans and a white T-shirt that read “God Sees No Color.” I like that she went for the simple ending rather than the typical flashy pyrotechnics that usually signal the end of the show. All in all, I thought she was great — she definitely showcased her tremendous vocal talent.

Justin started his set with Rock Your Body. Eeeee!!! He is really a great entertainer — he has what appears to be boundless energy and has a great rapport with the audience. Not to mention that he is definitely easy on the eyes. 😛 And I love him so much more now because Kelly Kono, only my most *favorite* dancer in the world (and former back-up dancer for Janet Jackson), is dancing with him. Hee. Anyway… Justin also sang Still On My Brain, Seniorita (one of my favorite tracks), Cry Me A River (no Britney look-alike, however, to my boyfriend’s dismay), Let’s Take A Ride, as well as more upbeat versions of 2 NSync ballads, Gone and Girlfriend. The highlight of his set was when he was beatboxing from a contraption that elevated him and moved him slowly from one side of the stage to the other — he beatboxed to Planet Rock!!! And It Takes Two!!! Mmm… Old school. So happy. And finally, his encore was of course, Like I Love You. Ah, I love you Justin.

Other entertainment during the concert included —
1) seeing so many young girls (probably around 11-13) wearing completely revealing clothing. I wanted to scream “It’s really *not* nice to have guys ogle your goods. In fact, it’s creepy! And you should cover up!” Gah.

2) an almost fight between a drunk guy (he hit the girl behind him when she asked him to be quiet and sit down) and some random guy who was annoyed with all his stupid antics

I snuck my camera in via the boyfriend so I may upload some pics… I don’t know if any of them will even look good but we’ll see.

What an eventful start to my weekend — Matchbox 20 tomorrow! 🙂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!
