going, going, gone!

Just got done packing — whew! Finally. I think I packed everything. Or at least I hope I did. I have a tendency to pack way too much stuff — I’m only going to be gone for 6 days yet I’m pretty sure I have almost 10 outfits packed. 😛 I just like to be prepared. 😉

Well, I just wanted to say “Bye!” to everyone — my flight leaves really early tomorrow morning and I have to wake up in 6 hours (it’s midnight now). I don’t think I’ll be able to blog while I’m in Hawaii unless I find some internet cafe or something — so until next Wednesday! 🙂 Bye all!

happy birthday rob!

It’s Rob’s birthday today! Happy 24th to him! 🙂 We went to a sushi restaurant called The Drunken Fish — so good! My favorite item is this spicy deep fried tuna roll. Yuuuumm. Random: if you look up drunken fish + oakland, a previous blog entry of mine comes up. hee! Search engines fascinate me.

Hehe, I actually voted after watching American Idol tonight — for Kelly, of course! Her voice is just amazing. And she’s such a cutie pie. 🙂

I can’t believe I’m leaving for Hawaii so soon! I haven’t started packing or cleaning my room yet — so much to do, so little time. Grr argh!

driving

The Friday Five is about driving, and since I *still* do not have my license, I can’t really answer any of the questions. ::shrugs:: Yes, I do realize that at some point, I’ll have to learn. But for now, I’m quite happy in my ignorance.

One week until Hawaii! Eek!

laid back

Urrrgggh, back to work tomorrow. Work is evil.

Anyway, I had a pretty laid back weekend — on Friday, I hung out with my best friends, Carmen and Robyn, at a friend’s house in the city. Everyone was piss drunk (heh) and I found it highly amusing to be the only person who was completely sober. The one thing that kept cracking me up is the way Robyn kept saying “yo” at the end of every sentence — she doesn’t normally talk like that. And geesh, can that girl chug down a beer! I mean, dayum. 😛

I spent a few hours earlier surfing Fan Forum for DC spoilers — hey, at least I can be prepared for any cringe-worthy D/Jo scenes. There are quite a few early season premiere spoilers which made me snicker — it might not be such a bad season after all. 😉
And finally! CTS is thinking about putting out DC DVDs — I definitely want to get my hands on S1, 3 and 4. Go here to vote — DC DVD Survey.

Seven on Sunday:

Seven jobs you would Kill For —
1. Professional shopper
2. Britney Spears or Janet Jackson back-up dancer
3. Set designer for movies or TV shows
4. Joshua Jackson or Tom Welling’s personal assistant
5. Travel Critic
6. Promotions Director at a company like Disney
7. To sit at home and do nothing, ie. watch TV and play with my sites all day 😛

carmen and robyn

My two best friends are coming up to visit this weekend! It’s weird, the three of us don’t talk or see each other often (mostly cause I’m bad at keeping in touch and I live on the other side of the state), but I feel like they’ll always *know* me. I mean, sure, I have friends from college but they’re not the ones who saw me through my “growing pains” — all the awkward moments that, as hard as you try, you can never really forget. They’re the ones who stood by me when my mom passed away, gave me moral support when I had my first real crush on a boy, and hugged me tight as I was leaving for college. I can’t wait to see them. 🙂

Hawaii countdown: 15 days!

movies, movies, movies

So I had a pretty fun weekend — I was out and about for most of it. 🙂 On Friday night after work, Rob and I ate at this really great barbecue place in Oakland called Everett and Jones — sooo good. Then we decided to have a Blockbuster night so we rented Don’t Say A Word. You know, the one with Brittany Murphy and her now-famous I’ll never te-ell” line. It was… okay. Nothing special — just your basic thriller. Jennifer Esposito played this really annoying detective — grrr. Plus, she was a completely useless character.

Then on Saturday, we woke up early to go to the city (San Francisco). Through my occasional work at KGO Radio, I get lots of tickets to amusement parks, museums, etc. Anyway, I had free passes for the Bay Cruise and the Aquarium of the Bay so Rob and I decided to spend the day in the city and do the “tourist” thing. We took the BART (it’s like a subway/commuter train) to downtown SF and then rode a cable car down to Fisherman’s Wharf. The cable car ride was really cool — it’s just like in the movies where you can stand on the side and feel the breeze. ::sigh::

After we had gotten our fill of calamari and clam chowder (yum!), we went to the SONY Metreon and saw Men in Black II. I thought it was really funny — Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have this weird chemistry going. But I really loved Frank the Pug. Waahh — I miss having a dog! *sniff*

And finally, on Sunday, Rob and I went to see Road to Perdition — that was one of the most amazing movies I’ve ever seen — seeing powerful men of the mob bow to the pressure of relationships, loyalty, business and profit — wow. There was one thing that distracted a bit from the movie — and that was knowing that this was Sam Mendes’s follow-up to American Beauty. So of course, I kept noticing things that were similar in both movies, even down to the music. But it was really refreshing to see Tom Hanks in a role where he’s not the typical “good guy” — I think people needed to see him portray someone who’s not a “hero.” Plus, I was really grateful that the violence wasn’t gratuitous because I have a hard time with violence on screen — it disturbs me. ::shivers:: But I definitely recommend the movie — it’s well worth the time and money.

Countdown to Hawaii: 1 month 😀

looong weekend

It’s been a looong, tiring, but really great weekend — details when I get home from work tomorrow as I don’t have the energy right now. 🙂

Just came on here to say… drumroll pleaseHappy Birthday to my DAD and to my friend Rob! I know it’s belated but I still wanted to send my well wishes. 😀

I’m seriously going to fall asleep on my keyboard so I’m off to bed! ::muah::

uhh… goals?

In the same vein as Gela, I shall share my own list of goals that, ideally, should be accomplished by the end of the year.

1. Find a job I’m passionate about.
I’ve become way too passive — my current job is not exciting or intellectually challenging — it’s just *there.* I mean, the hours are perfect (8am-5pm and I never have to stay late or bring work home) and the money is good. My only problem with it is that it is one big routine — never anything new or interesting to do. I would love to work at the marketing department at the radio station where I used to intern while in college, if only they would have job openings!

2. Apply to graduate schools.
In answer to Amy’s question, I would like to receive my Master’s in Media Communication or Media Studies. I’m currently researching various universities and the types of programs they offer so I don’t really have a “get in or die” list of schools yet. Maybe USC or UC Berkeley, which is where I received my undergraduate degree. The one thing I’m worried about is getting letters of recommendation. I really should have made more of an effort to get to know my professors. ::sigh::

3. Get at least a 700 on the verbal section of the GRE.
This section of the test is SO hard — there’s antonyms, synonyms, reading comprehension and the analogies (my personal hell). The worst thing is that the test is done on a computer so if you remember the meaning of a word ten minutes later, you can’t go back and correct your answer. My score was average the first time I took it but if I want to get into a competitive program, I need to have a competitive score. Gah.

4. Get in better physical shape.
I used to be really active in college especially since just to get from class to class, it’s like a mile long hike. Heh, well, not a mile *really* but it felt like it — see, this is the crazy campus I had to maneuver just to get to my classes. Anyway, I’ve been severely lax when it comes to exercise and I’m not really helping by consuming lots of junk food. Rob and I have been pretty good about jogging around our apartment complex — I guess going to Hawaii in a month is really good motivation. 🙂

5. Create a mini-fansite for Pacey/Joey or DC in general.
Actually, now that I’ve made this a goal, I don’t really know how plausible it is. I loooove P/Jo and the show but after Season 5, I kinda lost interest. Plus, since Season 6 is rumored to be the last, and the show hasn’t exactly been gaining fans (losing fans is probably more like it), I don’t know if it’ll be worth my time. I don’t know — we’ll see.

6. Learn how to use PhotoShop.
I have PS 7.0 — I opened it up a few weekends back and it freaked the heck out of me. I’m just so used to PSP. I know where everything is and it’s just easier. But I have PS so I might as well learn.

You know, I wish that I had this blog back when I was in college — I think it would have helped me relieve the stress of school life. Darn. Cause just now, while I was writing out my goals above, I really felt like it helped me to clear my head — I don’t feel like such a mess anymore. 🙂

Random: I never knew that Shane West was on an episode of BtVS. Wow, he’s all hot and sweaty. Must watch A Walk to Remember.
[edit: The episode Shane is in is called “Go Fish.” 🙂 It’s only like 30 seconds but he’s in the steam room. Heh.]

sooo bored

I am so bored. So bored that I am now going to start studying for the GRE. I never thought that I would *want* to study. When I graduated last year, I thought it would be too soon if I ever picked up another textbook. It’s ironic — when you’re in college, all you want to do is to start working but once you’re working, all you want to do is go back to school. ::rolls eyes:: Anyway, the GRE is the acronym for the Graduate Record Exam and it’s basically like the SAT’s but for graduate school. I took it once before but I know that I can increase my verbal score — that section is a killer. Besides, I figure that I might as well use this upcoming year to apply for schools in the off chance that I don’t manage to find a suitable job.

And yay! Rob is back home. 🙂 Happy day.

sick AGAIN!

I got sick AGAIN! This will teach me never to work in the blazing hot sun on the Fourth of July again. My nose is all stuffed up and I’m running dangerously low on nice, puffy tissues. ::sigh:: Argh!

But regardless, I had a pretty good time — I was working the spin wheel and giving out free prizes so I got to see lots of erm… interesting people. There were some station groupies who kept hovering by the booth and staring at us. And they weren’t even trying to be nonchalant about it. I think news talk groupies are the worst. They devote their lives to listening to the station day in and day out and they consider the radio personalities to be their close friends. It’s really disturbing.

The fireworks at the end of the night though — wow. They were awesome. There was just something about being in a large crowd staring up at the sky with excitement that made me truly feel like I’m a part of something. I felt wildly patriotic especially when hearing part of President Bush’s 9/11 speech accompanied by music — “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” ::shudders:: That alone gives me chills.

Gonna do the Friday Five: (on time for once!)

Where are you right now? I’m at home in my room — where I’ll probably be for the rest of the weekend cause I’m sick and lazy and right now, reading all the P/Jo fanfic I can find. 😛
What have you lost recently? Well, when I reformatted my hard drive, I lost all my programs and had to reinstall everything. What a pain. I hope that never happens again.
What was the first CD you ever purchased? Does that embarrass you now? You know, I have absolutely no idea — but I think it was Boyz II Men’s II. I’m not embarrassed by that CD at all. They’re like my first “boy band” love.
What is your favorite kind of writing pen? I love colored gel pens, especially the glittery colors. I’m such a girly girl. To be exact, they’re the Pentel gel rollers. I think I own every color.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? I have more than one — Rocky Road and Pistachio Almond by Baskin Robbins and Strawberry by anybody. Yum. 😛
I also want to wish my friend Sara a very happy birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day sweetie. 🙂
