season openers rock

Just got done watching 3 hours of TV — hee, I’m so giddy! (Why yes, I realize that I am a bum).

I really enjoyed the season premiere of BtVS — it laid the foundation for the rest of the season without being too heavy-handed and serious. It was funny and light-hearted (“Is there anything you don’t know everything about?” “Synchronized swimming. It’s a mystery to me.” — hee!), which is just what I wanted after what I found to be a dark Season 6. I didn’t like the foreshadowing for Dawn: The Vampire Slayer — blah. I also found Anya’s scene to be kind of tacked on, like an afterthought or something. Not too sure how I feel about insaneSpike yet. And I love that they’re back at the high school but did anyone else think that it was really bright? Weird. But damn, the last 5 minutes just floored me. It was really chilling to see Warren, Glory, Adam, Dru, the Mayor, the Master and finally Buffy herself — “It’s not about right. It’s not about wrong. It’s about power.” Just, wow.
Oh, and the new principal — yuuumm. 😛 And please, more Giles. Thanks.

The Smallville premiere was… ok. I liked all the Clark/Lex scenes — but for purely superficial reasons. 😛 Seriously though, the only character I really cared about was Lex — I love angsty Lex. Oh, and Chloe rocked too — I found her tears to be extremely realistic. I normally like Lana too but tonight she was kind of… eh. But maybe my opinion on the show is slightly biased because I miss Whitney. 🙁 Bring him back!

I also watched The Real Word: Las Vegas — what can I say? I like to torture myself. But really, what the heck is wrong with these people? It’s the second episode (and the 4th day according to them) and already there’s a threesome going on. My head hurts.

Gah, it’s getting late — I guess I have to watch my tape of Gilmore Girls tomorrow — who in the world decided to make my life so difficult by placing GG against BtVS? Grr.

emmys, premiere week and more

Whee! It’s the start of premiere week. 🙂 Tomorrow we have BtVS, Gilmore Girls AND Smallville! I have to remember to buy a blank tape during my lunch break. I’ve been really good and haven’t read spoilers for any those shows so… I. Can’t. Wait.

As for new shows, I’ve only watched Everwood, The Real World: Las Vegas (can you even call this a new show?), and John Doe. I wasn’t expecting too much from Everwood so I was actually pleasantly surprised — it’s kind of a cheesy show but the cast is really great. I’ll try to catch it when I can — the cool thing is that it’s showing twice a week on the WB (just like Smallville). Hmmm, as for The Real World — can you say drama house? I mean, geesh — these people know each other for like, a day and already there’s fighting between two guys roommates over one of the girl roommates. It makes my head hurt. I don’t know how many times I rolled my eyes during the episode — but hey, at least it was entertaining. John Doe was really good too but I don’t normally watch TV on Fridays so I don’t know if I’ll be able to watch it continuously.

Yay for Jennifer Aniston and the cast of Friends on their Emmy wins! 🙂 It’s about time.

foooood is my weakness

Am doing another list thing because it makes me blog without actually talking about anything, you know? hee.

Seven on Sunday

Seven Favorite Foods
1. spaghetti
2. pistachio almond ice cream
3. chocolate covered strawberries
4. nachos
5. barbecue ribs
6. fried chicken
7. strawberry banana pie

Gawd, it’s 1am and thinking of that list just made me hungry! Damn.

keeping in touch

Friday Five

Would you say that you’re good at keeping in touch with people? Nope — to be honest, I’m really awful at keeping in touch.
Which communication method do you usually prefer/use: e-mail, telephone, snail mail, blog comments, or meeting in person? Why? I like either talking on the telephone or meeting in person — just a bit more personal. I’m completely horrible at email. It takes me ages to respond. 😛
Do you have an instant messenger program? How many? Why/why not? How often do you use it? I have AOL/AIM but I rarely ever use it. I stopped using it a few years back when I was still in school because I had a tendency to chat for long periods of time and not get any schoolwork done.
Do most of your close friends live nearby or far away? Far away — my cousin and my best friends live in Southern CA.
Are you an “out of sight, out of mind” person, or do you believe that “distance makes the heart grow fonder”? I think a bit of both — I think that living away from my family has made me appreciate them more. But because they are so far away, I forget to check in with them sometimes — I need to better at doing that.

And because I really like the subject of this Seven on Sunday

Seven famous people I would sleep with… no strings attached, no questions asked, just one night…
1. Joshua Jackson
2. Tom Welling
3. Ewan MacGregor
4. Mark Barry
5. Michael Rosenbaum
6. Matthew Perry
7. Michael Vartan
YUMMMM. 😛

Hmm… I just noticed that my splash page looks f*cked up in AOL — geesh. AOL is always screwing things up!

total shock

I just found out that someone I went to both high school and college with has committed suicide. I’m still in total shock. We were never really that close — I haven’t talked to him in about a year since I moved out of Berkeley — but in college, we had a few classes together and we hung out occasionally. He even had a crush on me at one point. Towards the end of college, he kind of went off and did his own thing and never went out with us anymore — and we all just attributed the change to the whole growing up and growing apart deal. I know no one is to blame for what happened but I can’t help but wonder if I had just tried to keep in contact or *something* then maybe he wouldn’t have felt like he couldn’t turn to anyone. I don’t know. I just… I still can’t believe it. I hope his family is coping as best they can and that maybe, somehow, he’s found peace.

i am an idiot

My commenter is now working. Thanks everyone for letting me know. hee. I am such an idiot. It was like an “it’s staring you in the face” kind of problem. 😛 Anyway, thanks for the compliments on the new layout. *is happy*

where were you?

So tomorrow is September 11th. It feels like it was yesterday, seriously. I distinctly remember what I was doing that day — and I think that’s true of everybody I’ve talked to. Where you were and what you were doing when you found out that the Trade Center Towers had been hit will always be with you. I was still asleep when Rob called me and told me to turn on the television. I was in total shock. I don’t think I budged the entire day. I was angry because I felt helpless and I was sad because of all the unnecessary lives lost and the families who mourn them. I wanted to find out who could do this, how many planes were involved, how the rescue missions were going, and if there was any reason to believe that there were more targets. And now, a year later, I still find myself strangely drawn to the tragedy– I don’t know anyone personally who was directly affected but I guess being an American is enough of a connection to warrant my feelings.

food network

I am officially addicted to the Food Network. Rob and I have been watching it every day for a week now. Last Monday, we were so inspired by a segment on maple syrup that we went to the grocery store to buy ingredients for maple chicken wings and banana fritters. Yummy. I don’t know how to cook at all — Rob is the cook around here — so I guess this is a good thing.

I didn’t get tickets to the American Idol concert — boo. The nearest concert is around an hour away from here and Rob’s car is very temperamental right now (read: it only starts when it wants to) so we don’t want to take the chance that it’ll die from the drive. Oh well. BUT my good friend Nik has offered to make a copy of the American Idol finale! Yay! Thanks again sweetie. 🙂

the american idol… kelly clarkson!

Wheeee! I am so happy that Kelly won!

Tonight’s finale of American Idol was great — just the right amount of snark and cheesy pop songs to make me happy. 😛 I didn’t watch the show from the very beginning (I started watching when they were down to 8 finalists, I think) so I really appreciated all the great clips from the auditions. Those were hilarious — especially of the people who copped an attitude with the judges after a bit of constructive criticism. Bwah! Too funny. I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the medleys too — such cheesy goodness. The finalists sounded so much more relaxed now that the pressure is off. But what in the world was going on with Christina Christian’s hair? She looked like she had just been electrocuted! Gah. What a nightmare. And whoa, that was a really subtle bit of foreshadowing when Will Young (the winner of the UK’s Pop Idol) and Kelly were singing that duet together — funny that they were both wearing black and everyone else surrounding them was wearing khaki pants. Was that on purpose, I wonder?

And yes, I did bawl like a baby when Kelly won — she looked so overwhelmed and then she started to sing. She was adorable when her voice got all squeaky from trying to hold the tears back. Awww. And wow, I never really thought too much of Justin but he was amazingly gracious tonight. When the judges were singing their praises for Kelly, she looked so uncomfortable but he kept smiling and looked over at her to make her smile as well. So cute. I also loved when all the finalists rushed the stage to hug Kelly — such a nice genuine moment. It’s cool that they all seem to really like each other. I might just have to get tickets to the concert.

Is it sad that I’m going to buy that American Idol DVD? I’ll probably also grab Kelly’s first single — I’m not crazy about the song — it ranks high on the schmaltz factor — but hey, it’s Kelly. And I have to support my same-name gal.

HUGE favor: I was wondering if anyone out there taped tonight’s finale — I didn’t have the foresight to record it and now I regret it. I would love to see it again. Please email me and we’ll talk cost. 😉
