$4 million dollars?!?

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to NIK and SHIRLEY!

Did anyone watch Trista and Ryan’s Wedding on ABC?!? OMG. I can’t believe the wedding cost $4 million dollars! Holy crap. And it was ALL PINK. EVERYTHING. I like pink and all but geesh, she went overboard.

Anyway, I still can’t believe how close it is to Christmas! I still have so much Christmas shopping to do! *sigh* And I have to do my cards. I only have another week and a half to get all this done before I go on my mini-vacation. I don’t think I mentioned it here but my family and I are going to the Philippines and Thailand to spend the holidays with my grandma. I’m pretty excited — it’ll be nice to get away from work. 😀

Doing the Sunday Brunch because it goes along with the whole Christmas/holiday thing…

How many Christmas parties will you be attending between now and Christmas?
Just 1. I work with a small team of people so we’re going to have a Champagne Brunch at The Palace Hotel this coming Sunday.

Have you started Christmas shopping yet? If so, have you finished, or when do you expect to finish?
I’ve started but I’m definitely not finished yet. I think I’ve only gotten through a third of my list. Oy. I really wanted to avoid all the crowds that are sure to be at the mall in the next week or so. Guess not.

Who is your favorite person to shop for?
All the people on my list are difficult and time-consuming! hehe.

Have you decorated your house yet? (inside or outside)
I live in an apartment so we don’t do exterior decorations. Inside the apartment, the Christmas tree dominates the living room so that’s pretty much the scope of the interior decorations.

When did/do you put up your Christmas tree?
We put it up last Saturday. So much fun. I love trimming the tree.

vegas trip

I can’t believe I have to go back to work tomorrow. Guh.

Sooo I had a pretty rocking 4-day weekend. Rob and I had a great time in Vegas. We ate tons of food, he gambled (and even won a little!), and I shopped. 😀 Good times. Got home yesterday afternoon with a raging fever and a stuffy nose. Sucks. It seems like I’m always sick nowadays. Boo.

HEE! I’m currently watching VH1’S Big in 03 and they just had the award for Big Shocking Moment — and it was Ruben winning the American Idol crown over Clay. But the best part was that the presenters then announed that they were bringing out the person that should have won and it was Frenchie! Bwah. Also loved that The O.C. won the award for Biggest Guiltiest Pleasure. So cute to see the whole cast. But I missed Matchbox 20. *sniff* I have to catch a rerun.

Doing the Friday Five for good measure:

Do you like to shop? Why or why not? HELL YEAH!!! hehe. I don’t really know *why.* I just know that I do. Love shopping, that is. 😀

What was the last thing you purchased? Some tarts from the Yankee Candle Company. Love these things. They make my apartment smell yummy.

Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why? Shopping at an actual store. Especially for clothes. I have a really weird figure so it’s difficult for me to buy stuff online because I don’t get to try the stuff on.

Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it? Does lunch money count? If not, then no allowance for me. But I’m an only child so if I asked, I usually got what I wanted. Within reason, of course. 😀

What was the last thing you regret purchasing? A Hard Candy nail polish set from Sephora. Their nail polish was awful — very thin and chipped quickly.

[EDIT] What is wrong with the time on this entry? Grr. I can’t seem to fix GM to be the right time… BOO.

five things…

Because I don’t have anything else to talk about… The Friday Five! (Unless of course you all want to hear about the Christmas presents I bought today… heh, I thought so. ;))

List five things you’d like to accomplish by the end of the year.

Damn, this one is hard! There’s only a month and a half left of the year…
1. Finish Angels and Demons… I’ve only read about 50 pages and I started it over a month ago!
2. Rip my CDs. I have 14GB left on my iPod — I need to do this!
3. Finish purging my closet… I have so many clothes/bags/random things that I haven’t used in AGES. They all need to go.
4. Buy a new cell phone. I’ve had my Nokia since 1998. It’s ancient. And huge. And I want a new one. 😛
5. Send out Christmas cards on time. 😛

List five people you’ve lost contact with that you’d like to hear from again.
1. Michael L. A friend from high school/college. He’s off in New York working for a magazine and going to fun Calvin Klein parties. I’m so jealous. 😛
2. Cindy. A good friend from college. She went off to grad school in Hawaii and though we communicate via email occasionally, we always have such a fun time when we actually hang out together!
3. Sara. A net friend I made on the DC boards, specifically the Dawson/Pacey thread on FF. I miss you!
4. Shar. My “big buddy” in college. Damn, so many memories — tough times, sad times, happy times — we went through so much together. *sniff*
5. Amy. Another net friend whose blog I used to frequent. She just disappeared. 🙁

List five things you’d like to learn how to do.
1. Cook. I know how to operate the microwave but the stove? Not so much.
2. Sew, specifically hem pants. I’m so short that I always have to get my pants/jeans hemmed. If I knew how to do this, I wouldn’t have so spend so much money getting my pants tailored!
3. Learn PHP.
4. Use PhotoShop proficiently.
5. Drive. (This has been on my “to do” list forever).

List five things you’d do if you won the lottery (no limit).
1. Call-in sick from work. Permanently. Hehe.
2. Send some money to my family in the Philippines.
3. Pay my credit card bills.
4. Travel around the world.
5. Buy a house.

List five things you do that help you relax.
1. Light candles.
2. Go shopping.
3. Listen to music.>
4. Clean. Weird, I know… but it’s soothing somehow.
5. Drink peppermint hot chocolate. Mmmm.

wow, this took forever… time for bed.

shopping insanity

I need to be stopped.

Last week I spent an obscene amount of money on clothes and shoes at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Then last night I went to Target with the intent of buying only the essentials (read: soap, shampoo, etc.) — but of course, my boyfriend and I find some way of purchasing other erm… necessities such as DVDs. So I told myself that I would not spend any more money until after rent has been paid on August 1. But of course, I check my email and find out that MAC just launched a new color collection today. GAH. I just know I’m going to head to the mall tomorrow during my lunch break to check it out. I need more self-control.

In non-materialistic news… let’s see… um, my boss left for her honeymoon today. I like her but… yay! Work is going to be so laidback these next 3 weeks. Awesome.

Now for the Friday Five:

If your life were a movie, what would the title be?
Hmm… maybe something like Getting By. I’m not very original at 2 in the morning. I also like How To Deal but that would be even more unoriginal. lol.

What songs would be on the soundtrack?
Beth Nielsen Chapman’s Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye — for my mom’s passing
Good Charlotte’s Motivation Proclamation — for my high school years
Simple Plan’s One Day — for my dad’s over-protectiveness
Lillix’s It’s About Time — for my college years
Good Charlotte’s Seasons — falling in love with Rob
Janis Ian’s Days Like These — when Rob and I sail off to sea for the summer… oh wait, that wasn’t me. Damn.
Colin Hay’s Waiting For My Real Life to Begin — for my current state of mind
Matchbox 20’s Unwell — just for good measure

Would it be a live-action film or animated? Why?
It will definitely have to be live action. Cause I said so, that’s why.

Casting: who would play you, members of your family, friends, etc?
Ideally, I want Lucy Liu to play me — I think I’m a lot like her character Alex in Charlie’s Angels. But if I’m going to pick actresses in my general age range, then I’d like to see Keri Russell or Emily VanCamp play me. Hmmm… I see my Dad being played by Robert DeNiro, Alyson Hannigan as my cousin Riz, Reese Witherspoon as my college roommate Shirley, Alexis Bledel or Natalie Portman as my best friend Carmen, Kristin Kreuk as my best friend Robyn, and Mike Erwin as Rob. This is fun.

Describe the movie preview/trailer.
Just some short snippets of major events in my life with Lillix’s It’s About Time as the promo music. That’s it — I spent way too much time on the previous question and now I’m tired and sleepy, hee.

a drop in the ocean

So I did it. I went and made myself a wallpaper site — I’ve named it A Drop in the Ocean and it’s located here. Please visit! 🙂

A TV meme-thing that I stole from Cat and Nicola

Name every show you watch, and favorite character on each.
Alias – Sydney
The Practice – Eugene
Everwood – Ephram and Colin (DON’T make me choose! I can’t!)
BtVS – Buffy
Gilmore Girls – Lane
Smallville – Lana
Dawson’s Creek – Jen
Friends – Chandler
Sex and the City – Charlotte
American Dreams – Meg

Doing that survey made me realize just how much I miss new TV. Rerun season is awful for TV junkies like me. But I won’t have to wait too much longer — I am eagerly waiting the August 5th premiere of O.C. on FOX. I mean, Mischa Barton! And Adam Brody! Whee.

In other news of my weekend, I went and read spoilers for Everwood. I KNOW! Gah. I am so disappointed in myself. I can’t believe I did that — it’s one of the few shows I don’t spoil myself for because it’s just that good, you know?

WARNING: DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO REMAIN UNSPOILED FOR EVERWOOD —

dc series finale dvd

omg, will you take a look at the cover for the Dawson’s Creek Series Finale DVD? Isn’t that horrible?!? I mean, Jen and Pacey’s heads don’t even match their bodies, blech. Gah, I can’t believe someone actually got paid for that.

I went to see Charlie’s Angel: Full Throttle earlier — good, mindless entertainment. I’m still not over the shock of seeing Demi Moore in a bikini. I want to look like that when I’m 40 and have 3 kids! So jealous. If that movie did anything for me, it served as motivation to get my lazy butt to the gym. I have a couple of skirts that are getting a bit snug. Not good. Anyway, a question for anyone who has seen the movie — what the heck was the point of Crispin Glover’s character (Thin Man)?

And now for the Friday Five:

Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
I have such a bad memory but I *think* the first person I called my “best friend” was a girl named Jola. We met in first grade.

Are you still in touch with this person?
No. We were in school together until 8th grade, but we grew apart after 5th or 6th grade, I believe. Our personalities just went in completely different directions as we got older.

Do you have a current close friend?
There are 4 people in my life that I consider to be my closest friends — best friends Carmen and Robyn, my cousin Riz, and my boyfriend Rob.

How did you become friends with this person?
Carmen, Robyn and I met in first grade. We’ve been friends ever since. I still can’t get over the fact that I’ve known these girls for around 17 years. But I feel so lucky to have friends who have seen me through some of the best and worst times of my life. My cousin is family so there was no avoiding that relationship, lol. Riz’s family lived with us for awhile and we were forced (hey, I’m an only child — I’m not used to sharing! ;)) to share a room. It sounds cliche but I feel like she’s the closest thing I have to a real sister. And finally, I met Rob officially when I was a freshman in college but I knew who he was prior to that because we went to high school together (he’s a year older).

Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
I’d love to find out how the girls from my ballet class are doing. I trained and practiced with the same group of girls from age 6 to about 14, which was when I quit professional training. I’m just curious to see if anyone actually pursued a dance career. There are also a few people from high school that I think about sometimes. But I think I’m just a nosy person. 🙂

the non-blog

Holy moly — I can’t believe it’s already July! Where did the year go?!?

Why is it that when I actually sit down at my computer to blog, I can’t think of a single thing to blog about? But when I’m sitting on the train or out and about, blog ideas pop into my head and I think “You must remember this!” And of course, I don’t. Sucks to be me. Or maybe it sucks to be you because you’re reading my mindless drivel. Hee. 😉

Anyway, I have a new shopping addiction: buying make-up. Specifically MAC makeup. Gah. It’s so girly and crazy and damn expensive but it’s just so much fun. I love experimenting with the eyeshadow colors and I’m such a sucker for lip gloss. Someone seriously needs to take away my credit card because it’s just way too easy for me to stop by a nearby department store during lunch to buy more. It’s a sickness, I tell you.

Hmm… I just realized that tomorrow is pay day. I *must* resist all temptation to go spending all my money immediately. I mean, I need groceries! Apparently, I also need priorities.

For even more randomness, This or That Tuesday:

1. Lemonade or Ice Cold Beer? Lemonade. I don’t drink alcohol — it makes me giggly and silly and just, ugh.
2. Swimming pool or beach? Beach. I love the whole feeling of going to the beach — getting sand all over your stuff, lying on a beach towel getting some sun and hanging out with lots of people.
3. Long weekends here & there, or a 2-week vacation? 2-week vacation. It gives you the chance to relax and explore, which isn’t something you can really do with just a few days.
4. Destination: Acapulco or Hawaii? Hawaii. I am in love with Hawaii.
5. Destination: Mountains or Beach? Beach.
6. Hotel/motel/B&B or camping? Hotel. I need running water. This girl doesn’t do “roughing it.” 😛
7. Carefully planned vacation, or play it by ear? Carefully planned vacation. I’m not much of a risk-taker when it comes to vacations. I need to plan everything in advance and make sure I get good deals and such.
8. Sneakers or sandals? Sandals
9. Air-conditioning or fans? Air conditioning
10. Concerts in the park or baseball games? Concerts in the park. I’m sorry to say that baseball can just get way too long for me to sit through.

Oh! A question — I was wondering if anyone knows of any sites like Angelfire where you can upload videos with huge file sizes (like 8mb)? I’m trying to alleviate some of the bandwidth strain here at e-l.net. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

airport stories

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! 🙂 Mine went by way too quickly — I’m so not in the mood to go back to work tomorrow. The thought makes me shudder. Gah.

My weekend started Friday night when I went to the airport for my flight to visit my dad for Father’s Day weekend. So I’m going through the security checkpoint and as I’m waiting to be told to go through the metal detector, this crazy woman behind me gets right up on my ass and says to me, “Hurry! I’m late for my flight — it’s going to leave in a few minutes!” I’m thinking why the heck did she wait until *now* to get to the airport and would she please get off my back! I mean, I *can’t* go anywhere until the nice security man tells me it’s okay. So we finally go through the metal detector and we’re waiting for our personal belongings to come down the conveyor belt and as the bin with my purse, jacket and backpack gets closer, the aforementioned crazy woman starts touching all my stuff. (!!!) I can’t stand it when people do that!

So anyway, I’m in SoCal and my dad and I are going out to eat and shopping and other fun father-daughter stuff, but I just can’t enjoy myself cause it’s so freakishly HOT! I had forgotten just how torturous summers in Cerritos can be. I was so uncomfortable and could feel the beginning of a headache so we went back home and I spent a good part of my Saturday sleeping. Heh. Aside from that, I had a good weekend — spent lots of quality time with the family.

Doing the Seven on Sunday:

1. What was the last album you purchased? What did you think of it?
No Pads, No Helmets… Just Balls by Simple Plan. It’s a good CD — nothing to gush about or anything. It’s just something fun I enjoy listening to while I’m hard at work surfing the net or making wallpapers.

2. Is there one album in your collection that even you can’t believe you own? If so, why did you buy it? Eh… any of my 98 Degrees CDs. I thought Jeff was really cute so I expressed my fangirliness by purchasing their CDs. I’m really embarassed about the Christmas one, which is actually a really horrible CD. Oy vey.

3. What new/fairly new song are you currently loving
I’m all about Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake. It’s one of those songs that gets in your head, you know? Plus, it’s an all-around groovy song.

4. Found a song you love and it’s the only one you know by that artist… Do you buy the whole CD and hope some of it’s as good as the one, or download the one and forget the rest?
It depends on the artist — if it’s some random rap/hip hop song, then I’ll download it but if it’s anything else, chances are I’ll buy the CD.

5. Are there any songs you can listen to over and over again and just not get sick of?
I’m one of those people who doesn’t get sick of songs easily — I can listen to something forever. Seriously. But if I’m forced to pick then… it would have to be anything by Dashboard Confessional and David Gray.

6. Any songs you wouldn’t mind never ever hearing again?
Mmmm… the only thing that comes to mind right now is Baby Got Back. I’m sure there are others though.

7. Where do you like to listen to your music?
In my room. Usually when I’m working on my computer or cleaning my room.

Argh!!! The NJ Nets lost! Grrr.

Oh, whee! My new roomie is moving in and he has a TIVO! Score!

Kate, how does tomorrow sound? I’m SO sorry. *flashes sweet smile*

long ass survey

Thanks to everyone for the awesome comments about the DC finale fanlisting! I really appreciate it. 🙂

It’s June. It should be hot. But NO. I walk out of my office building this evening and it’s raining! Well, more like sprinkling, but still. It shouldn’t be raining in the summertime. I should be able to wear a tank top and flips flops not a big old peacoat and boots. Guh.

So I’ve been sitting here for the past hour trying to think of what the heck to blog about and… nothing. I got nothing.

I actually wrote some really random crap about my job and about my new roommate (Hi Jimmy!) but I just erased it all because really, it was so lame. And boring. And who wants to read that?!?
