fandom stuff

Boo. I’m sick. My face is all red and my nose makes me look like Rudolph and I am plowing through my tissue box like there’s no tomorrow. Plus, it’s been super super hot lately. So instead of being happy and enjoying the weather, I’m actually miserable because the warm weather is making me all sweaty and uncomfortable. Awesome.

I think I may have found my new reality TV obsession for the summer — Fame. I was actually planning on watching the encore of the Dawson’s Creek finale (*sniff*) but I happened to be channel-hopping and found it. It’s some good stuff. Dancing was a huge part of my high school and college life so I love the dancing aspect to this show. I really liked Alex (I think?) from tonight’s group of 6 — he was the one that sang “Just Friends.” His voice was just gorgeous. Wowzers. He made me meeellllltttt. Mmmm.

Fandom meme (what *does* this word mean?) stolen from Jessica:

Fandom: Dawson’s Creek
What drew you to this fandom?
First, it was just the spoilers and then ultimately, it became about the people I met. Back in season 3, I was desperately searching the internet to find spoilers for the season 3 finale. I just *had* to know if it was going to end with Pacey and Joey. I found the spoilers by way of Fan Forum but I also discovered a really great community where I didn’t have to hide my obsessive fan!girly quirks.

Are you involved in the fanfic world for this fandom?
Does reading count? Cause I definitely don’t write fanfic, lol. For DC, I especially love Nik at Pages of True Love, Laura Smith at Never Thought I’d Be Here, and Kaytee (though she no longer has her work archived anywhere). I don’t really have a lot of time to be looking for fic so I usually have to depend on recs.

Are you involved in any (other) web community for this fandom?
I’m a member of the Creek Network. We’re just a group of Creek-loving webmasters who all run a variety of DC sites.

What are your three favorite episodes?
This actually changes all the time (hey, I’m fickle) but for now: Detention (106), True Love (323) and All Good Things…Must Come to An End (623/624).

What was your favorite story arc? (spanning at least three episodes, not necessarily in a row)
Pacey and Joey’s love story in late season 3 and season 4. They’re my most favorite TV couple ever.

Favorite character to love:
Jen. Michelle Williams was definitely the most under-used actor on the show but in the few scenes she did have, she always managed to convey a real depth and vulnerability to the character that made her so likeable.

Favorite character to hate:
Eddie. Gah. “Why won’t you get with me?” Ewwww.

Character who, throughout the series managed to surprise you the most:
Pacey. Always considered the “loser” of the bunch, he has consistently proved to the others and, more importantly, to himself, that he is capable of much more than anyone ever expected of him.

Favorite non-actor person on the set:
Gina Fattore, one of the writers. She has written some of the best Pacey/Joey episodes: Four to Tango (309), The Longest Day (320), True Love (323), and Future Tense (404)… to name a few.

Least favorite non-actor person on the set:
Jason Palmer, a writers’ assistant. He has been responsible for the “Ask Jason” section of the official site for the last 2 seasons, in which he consistently gives the worst answers to questions and he thinks he’s funny. He also wrote the horrific episode Lovelines (619). Just awful.

Strangest name you remember appearing on the screen after the opening credits:
Obi Ndefo. He played Bodie. I just think it’s a cool-looking name and I’ve always wondered how to pronounce it.

Best piece of dialogue:
“I remember everything.” — Pacey to Joey in The Anti-Prom (322). Such a beautiful scene that made me melt.

Best. moment. ever.
Joey running after Pacey to tell him she’s in love with him in True Love (323). I love the way Joey anxiously runs to the dock to catch Pacey before he can leave — and the way Pacey’s face lights up when she says that she’s in love with him.

Shippiest. moment. ever.
When Joey chooses Pacey in the series finale. YAY!

Of all your fandoms, why pick this one for the meme?
It’s the only one that I consider myself an active participant in. 🙂

i love my 3-day weekend

The boyfriend’s parents are staying with us this weekend because his cousin is graduating from UC Berkeley (my alma mater!). We went to his graduation earlier this morning and damn, I had forgotten how long and most of all, how boring graduations can be. I mean, you’re waiting for one name to be called and then you have to sit through like 500 more names. Gah. But it was definitely nice to be back on campus again — I’ve only been gone 2 years but there already seems to be so many things that have changed. The Student Store where I used to work has seen a complete facelift. When I was still working there, it was owned and run by the ASUC (the Associated Students of the University of CA) but it was sold to a huge corporation and it’s evident in the design and products of the store now. There are also a bunch of buildings that were permanently in scaffolding before because of the Earthquake restoration project that have since been remodeled and repainted. And Telegraph Avenue (the famous street that leads right onto the main part of campus) has so many new shops — it’s so weird when your memories don’t match the reality anymore.

The only part of the weekend that has been a pain in my ass is that my site went down twice due to bandwidth issues. Grrr. I know it’s my fault for not checking my stats but I didn’t think I had to — I’ve *never* had a problem before. But anyway, sorry to my hostees for the downtime.

Seven on Sunday:

1. The most overused graphic fonts are Scriptina (beautiful but seen everywhere!) and the little pixel fonts (I love them though so I’m contributing the overusage. :P).

2. One web trend I just don’t understand the reasoning for is pop-ups. Guh. They get on my nerves.

3. I prefer blogs to LiveJournals.

4. I really love site designs that are easy to navigate and have lots of good content. On personal sites, I especially love to read site histories and random facts about the webmaster.

5. One aspect of web design that I’d most like to master is PHP. But in my old age I have become far too lazy to actually sit down and actually learn something.

6. You can tell how long someone’s been doing web design by the lack of blinding colors and text effects (like that damn sparkle trail) on their sites.

7. My first website was this one, e-l.net. I got into web design because I found myself a college graduate with no job and way too much time on my hands.

whitney hs: school of dreams?

Huh. I came across this book today. It’s a book that’s being written about my high school. So weird. I might have to buy it so I can see if the author’s observations match up to my own memories of the Whitney High School experience. Reading the summary about the book made me laugh though — “What does a top public school look like? In the case of Whitney High, it’s a ramshackle campus in an unfashionable part of L.A., where the budgets are tight and the student body resembles a mini United Nations… But attending a dream high school carries a toll: high-achieving, high-pressured kids survive on espresso and four hours’ sleep and fall into despair if they get a B. Forget Generation X. This is Generation Stressed.” BWAH! So true. The campus really was awful — it was tiny, the carpeting sucked, the lockers were a hideous orange color, and until just a few years ago, we didn’t have a gym (of course, it was built after I graduated). And I believe there’s still no football team. As for the stressful environment, I can definitely attest to that. I think the school in itself was hyped up so much that we all thought we needed to live up to the reputation. Not to mention the pressure coming from parents, teachers, and even each other. It definitely was not a typical high school experience. But I have to admit that I kinda miss it. Good times, good times. I do have to say that I take a little bit of offense that Cerritos is considered “unfashionable.” It’s not *that* bad. Humph.

Time for the Friday Five:

What brand of toothpaste do you use?
Colgate. The Winterfresh flavor, with the green and white stripes. 😀

What brand of toilet paper do you prefer?
Eh… what?! Well, if I must… I like Quilted Northern.

What brand(s) of shoes do you wear?
Let’s see… I tend to buy Nine West and Kenneth Cole for my dressier shoes while I like Diesel and Steve Madden for my sneakers and casual shoes.

What brand of soda do you drink?
I like Coke, Sprite and Mountain Dew.

What brand of gum do you chew?
Wrigley’s Doublemint is it for me!

Ok, off to bed — only a half day of work for me tomorrow! 9am-noon, baby! AND it’s a 3-day weekend. Woohoo!

so…

I Love Colin! The Everwood season finale was amazing — I love the way the writers weave so many different stories together. I can’t wait for next season — damn you Berlanti!

Yesterday my boyfriend decides to break our couch. He kinda jumped on it, I think. Anyway, he ended up breaking a portion of one of the wooden slats at the bottom. Luckily, it’s just one of those cheap-o IKEA couches. Gah, we have to go buy a new one. Rob glued the darn thing back together but who knows how long that’ll hold, lol.

Hmm… Seven on Sunday:

1. Nothing beats the taste of a tall glass of water on a really hot day
2. I sleep most comfortably on my side with a pillow at my back.
3. Three famous people who’s hair I wish I had are Lucy Liu, Kristin Kreuk, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
4. Somethings I wear everyday, aside from underwear, are my contact lenses and a watch.
5. I can’t leave the house without my office keys.
6. The last book I finished reading was Fast Food Nation.
7. When I’m done with this, I’m going to sleep!

killing time

So… I’m trying to kill some time before I watch Matrix: Reloaded so I shall do the Friday Five

What drinking water do you prefer — tap, bottle, purifier, etc.?
Bottled water — I particularly like Crystal Geyser and Dasani water for some reason.

What are your favorite flavor of chips?
Yuuumm… I like Cheddar & Sour Cream, Cool Ranch Doritos and Kettle-cooked Jalapeno.

Of all the things you can cook, what dish do you like the most?
I can’t cook! lol. The boyfriend does all the cooking. There is one thing I can make — it’s this baked macaroni casserole dish that my aunt makes. She gave me the recipe when I went off to college and missed it.

How do you have your eggs?
I like them over-easy. But scrambled is good too.

Who was the last person who cooked you a meal? How did it turn out?
Rob. The boyfriend. He made this spicy pork dish. It was yuuuuummmy. 🙂

ipod

I want an iPod. It just looks so cool. Too bad I don’t have $300 to spare right now.

Can’t sleep even though it’s 3am. I guess it’s because I didn’t wake up until 3pm(!) today. Hee. Last night I went to bed around 4 am (hey! Saved by the Bell and Head of the Class were on TV!) and I woke up 11 hours later. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the clock. I give “bum” a whole new definition. So yeah, today was basically a waste. To make matter worse, I had to buy a birthday present and I went to the crappiest mall EVER (aka Hilltop Mall for those you in the Bay Area). I didn’t find anything. I ended up buying the present at Borders, whih unfortunately for me and my time-wasting ways, is a 2 minute walk from my apartment as opposed to the 20 minute drive to the crap mall. Guh.

X-Men!

Hmmm, this week’s Friday Five is much too difficult for my fickle little self… so I’ve decided to do an old one. 😛

If you were to go to a movie this weekend, which one would you pick?
X2: X-Men United. I’m not a comic book fan or anything — it just looks like a fun popcorn movie. I’m actually going to see it in about an hour and a half — the midnight showing!

What movie would you like to rent this weekend?
There are a *ton* of movies I want to see… About A Boy, The Good Girl, Real Women Have Curves, Far From Heaven — just a few.

What one TV show do you always try to watch?
Hee, like you all don’t know the answer to this! Dawson’s Creek, of course. 2 more weeks! ::sniff::

If you (and your S.O.) were cool with it, what five celebrities would it be ‘ok’ for you to have a fling with?
Josh Jackson, Ewan McGregor, Tom Welling, Shane West, and Mike Erwin. Mmmm…

How do you plan to spend your weekend?
No plans. I just want to relax — it’s been a stressful work week.

And I’m off! Gotta get to the theatre to make sure I don’t get craptastic seats. 😛

lazy days

I haven’t done anything productive all day. It’s turned out to be one of those weekends where I have high hopes of things to accomplish (like doing laundry, cleaning my room, working on a project for work) but of course, my laziness takes over and I do absolutely nothing. Wow.

And to avoid real blogging — the Friday Five:

What was the last TV show you watched?
Oliver’s Twist on the Food Network. Hee. I love food.

What was the last thing you complained about?
Not having anything to eat in the apartment. And I just went grocery shopping last Wednesday. Geesh. Apparently, food goes fast here.

Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say?
Hmm… I don’t think I talked to anyone other than my boyfriend today and I’m pretty sure I didn’t compliment him on anything. Heh. Just kidding — I complimented him on the fried rice he made for dinner.

What was the last thing you threw away?
The peels to the orange I just ate. Mmmm. Really juicy and sweet.

What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited?
Dawson’s Creek Music — a great resource for all the songs ever featured on the show.

caps, caps –get your caps!

I can’t believe I’ve just spent the last hour or so thinking about my wedding.

No, I’m not getting married or anything, lol — but my best friend and I have just been discussing potential color schemes and floral arrangements. *sigh* It’s such a girly thing but oh so fun, hee. I was telling my boyfriend about our conversation and he proceeded to tell me that his ideal colors would be purple and gold, he would wear a purple tux and the wedding would be held at the Staples Center. Can you tell he’s an LA Lakers fan? Gah, that would be the wedding of my NIGHTMARES!

Stolen from Nicola:

5 TV Boyfriends:
