oth s6 + entourage

Is it sad that I still read wedding blogs? I can’t help it.

Rob’s in Cabo for a bachelor party this weekend so Diesel and I are on our own for the weekend. Love it because I can take over the TV and watch The Hills! And my other guilty pleasure shows (possible spoilers?)…

One Tree Hill
Caught up with the new season. Nanny Carrie’s return sucks (why did she have to come back?!?). Q’s death sucks (I was just beginning to like him). Skills and Deb’s relationship is… questionable (I admit it is possible but I hate the execution). Brooke’s assault storyline bothers me. I mean, how can her FRIENDS not notice that something more serious than falling down the stairs is going on with her? Argh. But mostly because I get the uneasy feeling that her mom is involved with this somehow. And that gives me the creeps.

I *am* enjoying Lucas and Peyton — I can’t explain it. I love them together. Can they just be happy for once? I also love anything and everything involving Haley, Nathan, and Jamie. They’re so awesome.

Hmm. I still (begrudgingly) love this show.

Entourage, Season 4
We don’t have HBO so we rely on the DVDs to catch up with these boys. We breezed right through all 4 discs in a few days. For the first time, I cannot stand Vince. I used to be pretty indifferent to him but now his carefree attitude and misplaced loyalty (to Billy Walsh no less) bothers me. Ugh. I also never really liked E (why must he act like such a tool sometimes?) but I really respect his drive and ambition — he doesn’t “use” Vince (like Turtle, ugh) and he isn’t afraid to have opinions and share them. I continue to love Ari and adore Lloyd.

Ok, I’m off to watch this past week’s episode of 90210 (yes, I’m still watching… for now). Have a great weekend everyone!

PS – A co-worker let me borrow Eclipse. I can keep reading the series without paying a dime. Yay. 😀

new moon

I bought Rob an iPhone for his belated birthday present and now I am SO. JEALOUS. I want one too (whine, whine). Sadly AT&T won’t let me get one until November (stupid contract).

Anyway, I finished New Moon over the weekend and I liked it about the same as Twilight.

Emma hit the nail on the head in her comment to my previous entry — it’s been so hard to get through this series because the writing isn’t so great. 🙁 This was definitely more noticeable in New Moon.

But I did understand Bella more in this second installment. Which is an improvement. Unfortunately, I still don’t really like her. I found her to be reckless and selfish. And it completely bothers me that she’s so nonchalant about becoming a vampire. Cause I don’t feel like she’s taking it seriously or that she’s really weighed the pros and cons. Interestingly, I liked Edward much more in this book — maybe because compared to Bella, he was like the voice of reason. I also really liked learning more about Jacob (he might just be my favorite character) though I still don’t understand why the vampires and the werewolves are enemies. Did I miss something?

I’ve gotten this far so I want to read the rest of the series… but I’ll have to find a generous friend to loan Eclipse and Breaking Dawn to me. Only the hardcovers are available and I’m CHEAP. Anyone? 😛

twilight

Wow, blogging 3 days in a row. Go me!

Gosh, I haven’t done a book update in ages. I swear I’ve been reading!

So I got sucked into the Twilight series. People at work kept talking about it and I felt out of the loop. 😛 I read the first book when I got back from Kaua’i so it’s been a good 2+ weeks since I finished it and I honestly haven’t felt inspired to blog about it. I think that says something. I liked it… but didn’t love it. And I wanted to. I really did.

Edward and Bella’s relationship was sweet but I think it was too much, too soon. Their lives started to revolve around each other so quickly and I didn’t even feel like I had a handle on who they are individually. It’s hard to root for a couple when you don’t have any feelings for either of them outside of that relationship. The action at the end kept me reading, though, and I was sufficiently intrigued enough to purchase New Moon (which I haven’t started yet). I might even try to watch the movie (if I can find anyone who wants to go)! I don’t follow Twilight fandom but it seems like people either love or hate Robert Pattinson’s casting as Edward. While he’ll always be Cedric Diggory to me (HP!), I can totally see him as a vampire as well. Should be interesting.

After Twilight, I read Eat Pray Love. Erm, how do I explain my thoughts? I liked it and didn’t like it at the same time. Really. It took me awhile to get through the first 25 pages or so because I found Liz to be slightly unlikable — I know she went through a huge, emotional and messy divorce but there were times when she was crying non-stop that I wanted to reach out through the pages, shake her, and tell her to snap out of it. And sometimes her journey came across as self-absorbed and arrogant instead of reflective and insightful. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just too young. Or maybe I haven’t lived enough so I don’t “get” it. Fortunately, she has a really fun (and funny), easy writing style that made the book easy to read. And I’m a sucker for a book about travel (I would LOVE to be able to take a year off and travel the world — so jealous). I just wish the ending wasn’t so neatly packaged.

I also read The Last Summer (of You and Me) by Ann Brashares. It totally sounded like a book I would enjoy… a story about sisters and the boy they grew up with at their summer house… but sadly, the characters drove me nuts. I was so frustrated and annoyed by their choices, their lack of communication, their passiveness. Ack. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series is far better than this book. :/

I’ve read other chick-lit books but they’re more the forgettable kind. Not worth highlighting here. Hop over to GoodReads to see what else I’ve been reading. I have no idea how to direct link to my profile (is that even possible?) so let me know if you’re on there and be my friend!

fringe

Happy Month-iversary to Rob and me! Time has flown by WAY too quickly and we haven’t even started our Thank You cards. Eeeek.

I watched Fringe tonight. First, I have to admit that I would watch this show for Joshua Jackson alone. I HAVE NO SHAME. (Pacey and Joey for life!)

So I liked the show. I think it has potential (beware spoilers)…

fall tv 08

YES! Thanks to my friend Ruby I found out that there is indeed a Fall TV Preview issue of Entertainment Weekly this year. As soon as the mail arrived at work on Friday, I pounced. I checked through our mail bins (we get multiple copies of every single magazine out there) and found one. It had Chuck/Blair on the cover too. SCORE. Although, yes, I would have been happy with Dan/Serena as I like them too. 😀

I read through the whole thing and of course, I am planning on watching too many shows. Here’s my list with premiere dates/times for my reference:

Mondays:
Gossip Girl (already premiered) @ 8pm (CW) – My current favorite show! I still have to watch my recording of the first 2 episodes, though. 😛
Chuck 9/29 @ 8pm (NBC)
One Tree Hill (already premiered) @ 9pm (CW)
Heroes 9/22 @ 9pm (NBC)
Rob also watches Terminator: The Sarah Chronicles so I follow that show by default. Wow, Monday is packed.

Tuesdays:
90210 (already premiered) @ 8pm (CW)
Fringe 9/9 @ 9pm (FOX) – One name. JOSHUA JACKSON. Woot. I am SO EXCITED to have him back on TV again.
Hmmm… did the CW cancel Reaper?

Wednesdays:
Private Practice 10/1 @ 9pm (ABC)
Dirty Sexy Money 10/1 @ 10pm (ABC)
Lipstick Jungle 9/24 @ 10pm (NBC) – I may check out a few episodes. I watched this last season when DSM went off the air during the writers’ strike and it was ok. There was some nice eye candy at least. Hee.
And I’m officially giving up Pushing Daisies. It’s such a cute show but… I got bored. :/

Thursdays:
Smallville 9/18 @ 8pm (CW) – I’ve also dropped Ugly Betty from my schedule so I can start watching SMVL again (I missed the second half of last season). I’m not too sure how I’ll like the show without Lex and Lana but at least Oliver and the Justice League are back!
Grey’s Anatomy 9/25 @ 9pm (ABC)
CSI 10/9 @ 9pm (CBS) – Warrick. *sniff*
Supernatural 9/18 @ 9pm (CW)

Fridays:
Free day!

Sundays:
Brothers and Sisters 9/28 @ 10pm (ABC)

Aaaahhh, so many shows, so little time. I LOVE IT.

new 90210 + pb

First, I want to wish my friend Ricardo a Happy Belated Birthday! He’s one of my few real-life guy friends who actually reads this thing so I had to give him a shout-out (this does not sound right coming from me). 😀

Anyway, had a very lazy 4-day weekend. My back hurt (have no idea why – I haven’t been to the gym since before the wedding) so I lay in bed and watched a lot of CSI. (What’s new, right?)

Is it just me or did Entertainment Weekly not have their annual Fall TV preview issue this year? I LOVE that issue. It’s like my new TV season bible. Seriously. I always read it from cover to cover trying to figure out my TV schedule for the new year. It never arrived and all of a sudden the season started this past Monday. I was not prepared.

I haven’t watched Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill yet but I did catch the new 90210 (terrible) and Prison Break (interesting) so of course I have a few comments (beware of spoilers).

kaua’i minimoon, part 2

Had a day off today. Woohoo for 4-day weekends!

Ok, here’s part 2 of my Kaua’i recap…

Thursday, 8/14
Did a whole lot of nothing. I think we were at the pool most of the day so no pictures… not even of food. We were supremely lazy.

But here’s a bonus pic of some roosters. They are EVERYWHERE in Kaua’i. And they crow at all hours of the day, not just in the morning. So annoying!

Friday, 8/15
This was the first day we had to wake up to the sound of an alarm clock. We made reservations to do a Na Pali coast tour and we had to be at the pier by 8:30am. So painful after days of sleeping in.

We were the last ones to board so we got stuck at the very front with no shade. This boat ride is the whole reason I got so sunburned. OH! And sitting in the front was incredibly bumpy. We felt every little dip and swell. At first it was fun (like being on an amusement park ride) but after a few hours, I started feeling nauseous. Rob kept making me drink water and carbonated lime soda, which helped. At least I didn’t get sick.

We saw dolphins!

Look how gorgeous the coast is!

Guh. Soooo pretty!

I also tried snorkeling for the first time (no pictures though — we don’t have an underwater camera). It took Rob awhile to coax me to get in the water (I am a terrible swimmer and was freaked out) but when I finally got in, I really enjoyed it. 😀 I wasn’t crazy about the water filling up in my ears, though.

I’m a wimp.

After the 5 hour boat trip, we had the most amazing shave ice at JoJo’s in Waimea. YUMMY. I wish it was closer to where we stayed (it’s on the southwest-ish side of the island and we stayed in the east) cause I could have eaten that every day. I had strawberry, Rob had liliko’i (passionfruit) and we both had haupia cream on top (haupia is like a coconut gelatin/pudding).

After a quick nap, we had dinner at Gaylord’s (this was our big, expensive dinner). No pictures, sorry — I was too lazy. I read about this restaurant on Fodor’s forums and it was recommended to us by family so we tried it. Honestly, I wasn’t that impressed. I had a seafood platter (scallops, fish, shrimp, and lobster) and while it was good, it really wasn’t worth the cost. Their lava flows were yummy though and the Banana Cream pie we had for dessert was solid.

Saturday, 8/16
Our last day in Kaua’i. Or so we thought.

Started out with a breakfast of malasadas. These are basically like donuts (no holes) covered with sugar. There’s a stand in front of K-Mart — they were fresh and soft and oh-so-yummy. Thumbs up. I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of them — you can kinda see them in the very left of the pic.

wedding teasers

Quick break in my Kaua’i recap to say that our FABULOUS photographers, Apertura, posted some teasers from our wedding on their blog. Check them out here.

A quick teaser…

YAY! We’re supposed to get all our proofs back in 2 months. I can’t wait to see them all. Hee.

I also want to do a wedding recap to share more pics with all of you… we’ve been getting TONS of photos from friends and family so just give me some time to get them all sorted!

Also, I have to say that I totally have wedding planning withdrawal. There is obviously something wrong with me. 😛

OH! Our wonderful wedding coordinator, Angel Swanson, blogged about our day here. Same pics but more commentary. Angel has incredible attention to detail and impeccable style — I was so happy to have her as support during the planning and to take the reins from me on the wedding day. I adore her.

kaua’i minimoon, part 1

I just realized that back in late 2006 when Rob and I went to Paris, I started a trip report and I never finished it. OOPS. And since I consider this blog a diary of sorts, I want to write about some of the highlights of our mini-moon in Kaua’i… with pictures, of course (that way, I don’t actually have to write very much :P)!

We didn’t do much but lay in the sun and eat (perfect vacation to me!) but we did explore the island a little so here goes…

Monday, 8/11
After breakfast at Kountry Kitchen (loco moco for Rob and strawberry and banana pancakes for me – forgot to take pictures), we went to… K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Here we are on our mini-moon and we go shopping?!? BWAH! We were actually looking for some flip flops we could trash, some cheap-o sneakers for me (we wanted to do an easy hike and I completely forgot to pack sneakers), and also HURRICANE POPCORN (only the best popcorn ever). It’s basically butter popcorn with seaweed flakes and rice crackers. Weird, I know but oh so good.

Lunch at Hamura’s Saimin. I had the wonton saimin. YUM. (Saimin is a noodle soup dish, similar to Japanese ramen).

After lunch, we visited Opaekaa Falls…

…Lydgate Beach Park (but we didn’t go in the water)…

…and the Sleeping Giant.

And we rounded out the day with drinks on the beach. I had a lava flow (pina colada with strawberry puree) and yes, it was alcoholic. 😀

Tuesday, 8/12
Beach Day!
Started off with breakfast at Eggbert’s.

We shared eggs benedict (YUM), pancakes, and a side of spam. 😀

back to reality

I’m back from Kaua’i. *sigh* It sure was tough going back to work today and catching up to over 300+ emails.

Rob and I had an amazing vacation even though United was at it again and totally ruined our departing flight back to LA. We were supposed to leave Saturday night at 8pm and had even boarded the plane when the flight attendants said there was a mechanical problem they were trying to fix. We deboarded and waited around for 2 hours before they determined that it could not be fixed, the flight was going to be cancelled and we were going to be rescheduled for 2pm the next day. Sure, it was nice to have an extra night on the island on United’s dime but at that point, we just wanted to be home instead of dealing with the line to get our accommodations vouchers and then another line to be shuttled to the hotel. UGH. It was seriously painful. Our time on the island, though, was super relaxing and fun (I have the sunburn and awful tan lines to prove it!) and I’m so glad we had that time to enjoy each other’s company after the wedding.

Speaking of pics, here’s one that my best friend Robyn took of Rob and me before the wedding… we decided to see each other before the ceremony to get all our pictures out of the way. This was taken right after our “first look” — we look so giddy!

YAY! More pics soon.

Thanks so much to all of you for all your well wishes, especially Kelly and Sarah for the awesome cards. It was so nice to come home to them. 🙂

Lastly, I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to my best friend Carms! Love ya!
