ocean’s twelve

So I went to see Ocean’s Twelve on Friday (mild spoilers may be ahead!)… and at first, I was a little disappointed with the movie but after a few days, I think I’ve changed my mind. It’s definitely not as good as the first but it’s still a fun, fun movie. I guess I just had extraordinarily high hopes because Ocean’s Eleven is one of my favorite movies ever. O12 lacked two important things that made the first movie work — real group interaction as well as a tight, cohesive script (there were a few unnecessary storylines — the rivalry between Ocean and Toulour, Isabel and the end to her story).

But whatever, it was still a highly entertaining movie with exceptional actors and The George, The Matt and especially The Brad were looking mighty nice. That should be reason enough to see it! Heh. I know, I’m shallow.

Fannish Five

What 5 characters perform their actual jobs well? (Characters from Clerks need not apply).
1. Leo McGarry, The West Wing
2. Karen Rowe, One Tree Hill
3. Gil Grissom, CSI
4. Kirsten Cohen, The OC
5. Jack Bauer, 24

my weekend

Wow, I haven’t blogged in almost a week! I am so lazy. Really.

What have I been up to?

Well, I bought the new Kelly Clarkson CD, which I love. I’ve been listening to it practically non-stop. I particularly recommend Since U Been Gone, Because of You, and Addicted. Kelly has the most amazing voice — it’s so emotional and just rich. Everyone needs to check it out!

I also bought my Christmas tree this weekend! Squee! It smells so great, it’s all decorated and lit, and I can’t stop staring at it! I’m such a Christmas fangirl (if there *is* such a thing). I still have about half of my Christmas shopping to do though and of course, it’s for all the difficult and extremely picky people ie. my aunts, roommate Jimmy, older cousin, and Rob’s brother and wife. Anyone want to inspire me with some suggestions?

I’m so sad that Cal’s not going to the Rose Bowl. I don’t really follow college football, to be honest, but I *am* a proud Golden Bear and would have loved to see the team make it to that bowl game.

Heads up! I read on TV Shows on DVD that select HBO/Warner DVD sets are 50% off at Amazon. The highlights (to me, anyway) are: Gilmore Girls s1 ($29.99), Smallville s2 ($29.99), and The West Wing s1 and 2 ($29.99). I’m thinking of getting the SMVL and WW sets but I feel bad spending money on myself when I should be saving it for the presents I still have to buy… decisions, decisions.

Now for the Fannish Five

Name the five scenes that make you melt in True Fannish Love. Every. Single. Time.
1. Pacey and Joey (Dawson’s Creek) leaving Capeside for a summer together on the True Love (in season 3’s finale). The header image above is from this scene. *So* squee-worthy.
2. Ephram and Amy (Everwood) saying “I love you” to one another in Staking Claim. Just perfect.
3. Gilbert’s marriage proposal to Anne in the final scene of Anne of Avonlea (the movie). I just love it when Anne says “I don’t want sunbursts or marble halls. I just want you.” Awww.
4. Michael letting Maria (Roswell) “see” him in The Departure.
5. Nathan going to see Haley (One Tree Hill) after being released from the hospital in With Arms Outstretched. I just melt when he says “Then I saw you.. I promised myself that if I could just get up, and walk over to you, and tell you how much I need you, how much I want you, then nothing else matters.”

And an extra one for good measure…
6. Joe running to the airport to see Jess in Bend It Like Beckham. “I can’t let you go without knowing… we might still have something.” Guh.

thanksgiving and other stuff

I’m so, so sad the loooong weekend is winding down. It was a good one! And I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Thanksgiving as well.

So… what have I been up to?

Last Tuesday, I flew back to southern CA to stay with my best friends for the night. I got to catch up and hang out with them (something I don’t do often cause you know, the distance and cause I’m a bad friend) and also see their apartment (that they’ve been living in for almost a year now but I haven’t seen cause of the whole bad friend thing). It was a really short visit but I had fun! Thanks guys! I hope I’ll get the chance to visit again soon.

😀

I spent the rest of the week at my dad’s house and had Thanksgiving with the usual suspects — my aunt, cousins, their significant others. My cousin hosted the dinner at his condo and he even cooked! Which is something he never used to do. His girlfriend seems to be domesticating him, hee. He made/bought a TON of food (not really your “typical” Thanksgiving fare but yummy all the same) — salad, corn chowder, 2(!) whole chickens, roast beef, garlic mashed potatoes , grilled salmon, baked macaroni, fruit salad, and apple pie. OMG. YUM. I ate so much. The whole dinner made me rethink the whole “I don’t like to cook” thing that I have. I even went so far as to pick up an issue of Everyday Food, which was recommended to me by the lovely Keenai. The worst thing about cooking to me is that it can take so long. I hate coming home from work and having to spend another few hours in the kitchen but a lot of the recipes in the magazine seem to require minimal prep time. So yeah, my very first New Year’s resolution (I realize it’s early but what the heck) is to learn how to cook and do it more often. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I also braved the crazy crowds on Black Friday to do a little shopping. Didn’t buy anything though. Well, my dad bought me a new suitcase but that doesn’t count cause I didn’t pay for it. I flew back home on Friday night (I just needed some time for myself plus the fare was a lot less expensive) and when I got home, I was browsing the Target website and saw that BtVS s7 and Dawson’s Creek s4 were on sale for $17.77. !!! I called the boyfriend (who was still in LA) and managed to get him to hunt them down. He went to 3 different stores but finally managed to snag a few copies. I already have DC s4 but I’m sure I can find someone to give it to for Christmas! Or maybe I can sell it on eBay. Hee.

Anyway, thanks everybody for the great comments in my entry below. I guess I had some momentary lapse of insanity when I said I would close my blog down. This is my home and I won’t be moving over to LJ. So, yay and all that.

Extending this entry a bit more by doing the Fannish Friday 5

What are your five favorite relationships in your fandom(s)?
1. Pacey and Joey, Dawson’s Creek. Like you all didn’t know that one! They’re just *it* for me. I lurve them.
2. Ephram and Amy, Everwood. They weren’t the ‘ship that I was originally drawn to on this show (that would be Colin and Amy) but in the past 2 seasons, I’ve really enjoyed watching them fumble through their friendship first and now their relationship. They just make me go “Aww.”
3. Harry and Hermione, Harry Potter. They work. They just do.
4. Anne and Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables. Probably my first ship ever.
5. Ryan and Seth, The OC. Disregarding the sexual tension these two seem to have in their scenes, I just feel like they have a really good friendship. Plus, they’re OMGSOCUTE!

I am so depressed at the thought of going back to work tomorrow.

ALIAS!!!

I’ve been listening to Christmas music non-stop this weekend. *happy sigh* It makes me so giddy.

Two other things that make me giddy are…
1. CAL won the Big Game against Stanford yesterday! 41-6, YAY!

2. Seeing the new Alias promo!!! I was just watching Desperate Housewives and all of a sudden, there it was! Ahhhh. It was so good! A really fabulous mix of old and new images — Syd in various disguises from past seasons, Syd and Nadia kicking ass, and the kicker — Happy!Syd and Vaughn! *dies* OMG, it’ll be such a nice change. They were so depressing last season. It looks like that’ll change this season. Maybe I didn’t watch close enough but did anyone see Jack, Sark or Weiss at all? I spotted Marshall but didn’t see the other 3. I’m sure Alias Media will have the download… for me to watch about a million more times. As for the new timeslot, I’m undecided about it. On one hand, I think having Alias on Wednesdays at 9 will allow it to capture viewers from Lost but on the other hand, isn’t that already a pretty packed timeslot? Oh well… is it January 5th yet?

Anyway, I was reading Christie’s LJ and she brought up something I’ve been thinking a lot about — blog versus LJ. I’m sure everyone’s noticed that the blogging community has been dying down and many people have moved over to Live Journal. It’s enough to make me want to close up shop here! I mean on LJ, there’s the easy to read friends lists and the built-in comment feature. But then, I think about all the work I’ve put into building my blog/sites (and the money!) and I just can’t let it go. I don’t know. Anyone have any opinions either way? Or can anyone share why they prefer using LJ? Argh. Must stop over-thinking things.

I’m very excited about this coming week — 2 days of work then 5 days off! Plus Turkey Day! 🙂

TV catch-up

Verrryyy quick TV post…

Gilmore Girls
Yay Rory and Marty! I think they’d actually be really cute together. Too bad it won’t happen. Poor Marty.

One Tree Hill
Nathan is so awesome — he planned the carriage ride and wanted to surprise Haley with a great formal. Just… aww. But Haley had to ruin it! Grrr. And then I see the promo for next week! $#@! That Chris/Haley kiss better be some kind of twisted dream sequence. As for the others, I’m still annoyed with Peyton’s storyline (she deserves better!), and I could care less about Brooke (she went way overboard yelling at Mouth) and Lucas (he’s in for a big surprise if I understand the hints they’re throwing around about Anna’s sexuality).

Smallville
Even though Bound was a Lex-centric episode, I can’t say I enjoyed it. It barely held my attention. What is going on?! I had such high hopes for this season. *sigh* The only thing that interests me right now is finding out what kind of connection Jason’s mom has to Lana.

And I’m *still* not caught up with Lost. 2 episodes to watch… I hate being behind! Guh.

ama’s

The American Music Awards were actually watchable this year. It had its moments of eyroll-inducing banter, of course. But I guess that’s nothing new.

I liked all the performances for the most part — I especially enjoyed Kanye West (BWAH! Workout Plan is the funniest song), John Mayer (his set looked really cool in black and white), Maroon 5 (I think I have a crush on the drummer — what’s his name?!), Alicia Keys (she looked gorgeous with her hair up), and Snoop Doog and Pharrell (Drop It Like It’s Hot is my current song of the moment — loved seeing Pharrell dance, hee!).

I was really looking forward to Usher and Alicia Keys singing My Boo… but there was something *off* about their performance. During part of it, Alicia Keys wasn’t even singing. ?? It was weird.

I can’t believe Lenny Kravitz sang that Lady song again. Every time I go into the GAP, that song is playing. I half expected Sarah Jessica Parker to come out and dance with him.

WHAT was UP with Anna Nicole Smith?

Still don’t like Fantasia. Or her new song.

Speaking of American Idols, it was good to see Kelly Clarkson again. Squee! Her dress was preeettyy. I can’t wait for her new album.

Everything else was pretty forgettable.

Anyway, hope everyone has a good week!

mike erwin spotting

David Anders wasn’t on CSI tonight… but that’s okay because Mike Erwin was! Squee!

Mike Erwin! My Everwood TV boyfriend! *happy sigh* He had a small role but it was very cool to see him again. Especially since I missed him when he recently appeared on Joan of Arcadia.

Another Everwood alum, Kate Mara, was also in this episode — she played Kate Morris in s1. It’s like a fandom reunion!

The episode itself was a bit of a letdown since last week’s was so good. And I was not happy that this Sophie person ate up so much screentime. She’s a day shift CSI! Why’d she take so much time away from everybody else? Like Warrick. He’s barely had any scenes in the last few episodes. Not to mention Sara who wasn’t even in this episode. Humph. CSI already has a great ensemble cast — use them! But I’m guessing there’s more in store for Sophie. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had as many scenes with Grissom as she did, especially since she’s a DAY SHIFT CSI. I just hope it’s not a potential relationship. *cringes*

As for my other Thursday night addiction… The OC brought more Ryan/Seth shippy scenes. Which is all I really care about, hehe. Well ok, I also care about the Seth/Summer storyline. And as much as I want them to get back together, I have to agree with everything Summer said when she yelled at Seth at the carnival. He doesn’t deserve her — not when he can’t even admit that he did something wrong by leaving.

In non-TV news, I’ve officially started Christmas shopping! Mmm. I just love the holidays.

Smallville
Spell was… a waste of time. And to think I was actually looking forward to it because I enjoyed the previous episode Transference so much. It was good to see Lois again, though. It’s only been a few episodes but I missed her! Lex playing the piano with bloody fingers is an image I want to burn from my mind. *shivers* But it looks like Christie’s right — the writers are totally moving steadily towards some kind of Lex/Lana relationship. I’ve been waiting for this storyline but now I’m torn cause I have a soft spot for Lana/Jason. Though that’s probably just due to the fact that I have a crush on Jensen Ackles. Hee. Anyway, the one scene that I absolutely loved (and made the entire episode worth it) was when possessed!Clark was dancing with Lana at the barn party. BWAH! That was so awesome.

I don’t watch Charmed but I’ll have to catch the next episode cause… Kerr Smith! Mmm.

The West Wing
I *obviously* haven’t watched this show in a loooong time. Cause I finally tune in tonight and all of a sudden, CJ’s Chief of Staff! Which means Leo’s not around. *sniff* There’s also some new character (Annabeth, I think?) who I did not care for. She reminded me of Mandy and that’s not a good sign. I need to find recaps of the previous episodes because it completely drove me crazy that I didn’t know what the heck was going on.

American Dreams
This show kills me. Last week had me in tears. From the very beginning when the Pryors were trying to regain a sense of normalcy after being informed that JJ was MIA… to the very end when they received JJ’s tape and heard his own voice telling them that he may no longer be alive. Agghhh, I know that JJ’s perfectly fine but I can’t help it! I just want JJ to be back home. Specifically with Beth and his baby. Speaking of couples, this show is really testing my shipping loyalty with all these new characters as love interests for the regulars. I don’t like Cal, or Angela, or Chris (I don’t know if it’s Milo’s acting or what but his portrayal of Chris reminds me too much of Jess from Gilmore Girls). I don’t like anybody getting in the way of JJ/Beth and Meg/Sam.

Gilmore Girls
I’m very likely the only person who’ll say this but I’m kinda sad that Rory and Dean broke up. I know, I know… the storyline’s been dragged out and it’s getting tired and sad. I know all that. But I’m irrational when it comes to couples I love. I do like Logan though so I’m looking forward to their inevitable romantic relationship. After all, he *is* on all the GG billboards.

I still have to catch up on a few episodes of Lost. But that’ll probably have to wait until the weekend. There’s just not enough time in the day for all the TV that I watch. Hee.
