my little hiatus

These past few weeks with my sites down, I’ve watched an obscene amount of TV. Seriously. I finally bought Gilmore Girls on DVD and watched the entire first season in the span of 4 days. Yes, I realize that means I watched like 5 episodes a day. Hee! I had forgotten just how great the first season was. There’s Tristan! And evil Paris! And Rory/Dean (back when they weren’t adulterers)! Good times. 😀

I’ve also been giving my Felicity DVDs a workout. I sped through season 1 last week and now I’m about 3/4 done with season 2. I’ve always preferred Felicity and Noel but during this viewing, I’ve started to warm up to the idea of Felicity and Ben. I used to think of them as kind of an unrealistic couple; one that had chemistry and sexual tension but whose personalities weren’t really compatible. But now I can see that they have a special connection and I’m torn — I love both couples! Or maybe this newfound Felicity/Ben love is just an offshoot of my Keri Russell/Scott Speedman love… I listened to their commentary (on season 2’s The List) and the two of them crack me up. They sound really comfortable with each other — they laughed at how young they look, Scott teased Keri about her short hair — but they never seemed to know what the heck was going on in the episode! Heh. Though that seemed to be the case with all the cast commentaries.

Some other commentary highlights —
Greg Grunberg, Tangi Miller, Amanda Foreman and Amy Jo Johnson (commentary on season 2’s Sophomoric) singing the s3/4 theme song. Short but really funny.

Scott Foley (commentary on season 2’s Ancient History along with Keri) doing an impersonation of Scott Speedman’s whisper.

Scott Foley and Keri reminiscing about their character’s relationship and coming to the conclusion that they never had sex. HELLO! I know they’re only actors but I can’t believe they forgot about that storyline. Humph.

Anyway. Dawson’s Creek season 4 DVDs on October 5! It’s like an early birthday present for me. 😀

Speaking of birthdays — Happy (belated) Birthday to Amanda and Emma! 🙂

another long story

Squee!!! *hugs blog* Ahh, it’s so good to be back. Again. 😀

The reason for the downtime is another loooong and decidedly frustrating story. Let me just say that Brianne and Becca are AWESOME. I’m hosted on their server now and things seem to be looking up.

I still have tons of sites to upload but I couldn’t resist a quick update. Seeing my pretty blue Greymatter makes me all giddy.

Hee! 😉

moving… again

I’m moving back to my old semi-dedicated server. It’s not a particularly interesting story — I’ll just say that all the effort I put into changing hosting companies was pretty much useless because my domains take up more space, bandwidth and server resources than a normal shared hosting plan can offer.

Oh well, at least it’s a 3 day weekend so I’ll have time to take care of this move and work out all the kinks.

*sigh*

So anyway, that’s what’s going on — hopefully the domain will be up and running on the old server in the next 24 hours…

they’re here!

SCORE! My Dawson’s Creek DVDs came today! I wasn’t expecting them until tomorrow so it was such a pleasant surprise to come home and find them here. Yayayayay. Amazon.com rocks my world.

I only watched a little bit of it so far and I have to say that the image quality of this set is *much* better than that of season 2. The picture is vibrant and gorgeous and it’s not noticeably grainy like the previous set. Right on.

The theme song change isn’t that bad either. The first few times I watched the credits it was a bit jarring not to hear Paula Cole but I do think ‘Run Like Mad’ is a better song overall. I guess if changing it saved money for the other songs, then I’m not going to complain.

Also, there’s a little insert that says Season 4 is coming soon! I’m such a Happy Kelly today. 😀

dc s3 DVDs

The Dawson’s Creek season 3 DVDs are out tomorrow (or today depending on when you read this)! WOOHOO!

I’m over the moon excited about having this season on DVD. (PACEY & JOEY!) My tapes are not in good condition after the repeated viewings over the years. I still have to wait until Wednesday to get my grubby little hands on the DVD set, though, because Amazon shipped them today and I paid for 2-day shipping. Hehe.

My only concern is the music! Guh. I wish it was possible to keep the original music for the DVD releases but there are monetary obstacles. Of course. If anyone’s interested, here is the complete list of replacement songs…

— I can’t believe the theme song was changed! WOW. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I *always* watch the credits (don’t know why but I do) and now… it’ll be weird. I can’t believe I won’t be hearing I don’t wanna wait anymore…

— Yes! “Hold On” in 301 made the cut. The Pacey/Joey dock scene wouldn’t be the same without it.

— Yes! “That Would Be Good” also made it in 308. I was worried about this one because Alanis Morissette is a popular artist and I figured the fees for this song would be too high. Anyway, yay!

— *clunk* NO! “Both Sides Now” was replaced in 312 when Pacey watches Joey fall asleep. I love that Joni Mitchell song.

— *gasp* “In Your Keeping” from 320 didn’t make it! This is killing me. This song is so damn angsty and fit perfectly with Joey standing alone on the dock at the end of the episode.

— Score! “My Invitation” from Pacey and Joey’s prom dance in 322 made it. Phew! That scene is very high on my all-time favorite DC scenes and I’m happy they didn’t mess with it.

— “I Will Be There For You” got the ax. Crap. That’s when Joey runs down the dock to find Pacey in 323…

— But YES! Pacey and Joey sailing away to “Days Like These” in 323 is still intact. Another sigh of relief. The end of the entire season must not be messed with.

I guess I’m a little disappointed in some of the songs they chose to replace (especially the theme song) but overall I’m just *so* happy that this season is being released on DVD. I know I’m going to be spending my weekend in front of the TV. 🙂

gymnastics

I can’t wait for the Olympics now! I caught the US Olympic gymnastics trials on TV today and it looks like the women are going to have a great team. I’m glad that Courtney Kupets is guaranteed a spot and I’m crossing my fingers that Carly Patterson (my current favorite gymnast) and Mohini Bhardwaj get selected for the team too. They better win some medals this year! I’m *still* sad about their poor showing in the 2000 games.

Though I will forever love the 1996 team. Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Amy Chow — my all-time favorite gymnasts! The Magnificent Seven rocked. 😀

I have 3 more GMail accounts to give away! (Well, technically my boyfriend Rob does but he asked me to blog about it here to see if anyone wants/needs one). Please comment with your first and last name and email address and we’ll get it to you asap. Mandy, Alice, Tessi and Maria — I sent your GMail invites out already. Let me know if you didn’t receive them.

and we’re back… again

Ahhhh… my blog is back. YIPPEE. 🙂

To make a long story short…

My former host frustrated me. They had to reinstall the server I was hosted on because of “issues.” What those issues are, I have no idea. All I know was that they didn’t provide me with satisfactory explanations AND it was causing me downtime, which did not make me happy. I’m with a new host now so I’m crossing my fingers that I won’t have to move… ever again. It’s such a pain — I mean, I still have lots of sites to upload! My head hurts just thinking about it.

Oh! I have 3 Gmail accounts to give away — anyone interested? Just comment with your first name, last name and current email address and I’ll send one as soon as I can. So far, I think GMail is really great. The pages load quickly, emails are grouped together, and the interface is clean and simple. I’ve never used Hotmail or Yahoo so I can’t compare — but so far, so good!

north shore

Ahhh, I’m feeling much better now… as I should after spending the past 4 days at home! Whee! I just love playing hooky from work and lying in bed watching my Sex and the City DVDs all day. Mmm.

So there was new TV tonight! I caught the premiere of the North Shore… and I guess it’ll do for my cheesy summertime drama (I’ve pretty much given up on Summerland — it was just *too* bad). The show reminds me a lot of NBC’s Las Vegas (Josh Duhamel, baby!) with the hotel/casino setting and the focus on the employees and guests. The storylines of the pilot were pretty bad (especially the Lamborghini situation, the celebrity visit and the Jason/Nicole love story) but… it was pretty! Hawaii looked breathtaking and the bartender, played by Jason Momoa of Baywatch: Hawaii fame (WHAT!), was definitely easy on the eyes. I’ll probably tune in solely for him. Heh.

I’ve also been watching Joan of Arcadia (Keenai, you would be proud :D)! I’ve seen 2.5 episodes (Recreation, half of State of Grace and Double Dutch) and so far I love what I’ve seen. Although… I really have absolutely no sense of the backstory (like what happened to Joan’s dad? and what’s going on between Joan and Adam?). Does anyone know if CBS is going to rerun the first few episodes again this summer or should I just break down and start downloading them?

Many, many thanks to my buddy Siobhan for the gorgeous card from Paris! 😀 I just got it today. Very exciting!

home sick

I can’t sleep.

I got sent home from work today for being sick (I’m a sneezing, coughing mess) and I slept earlier from about 11am until 4:30pm. So now I’m trying to go to sleep (I’m going to attempt to go to work tomorrow) and I can’t. I’m like, wide awake.

I watched the MTV Movie Awards and I learned 3 things:
1. Paris Hilton is a robot. Why does she *always* stand with her hands on her hips?

2. Lindsay Lohan can’t dance. (Well, she can but not in the same league as the You Got Served dancers.) Ouch.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal is really, really cute. Really.

I’m still in a Harry Potter state of mind so I’m going to do this meme (stolen from Miss Windy)…

When did you first discover Harry Potter?
Sometime in the summer of 2001. My college roommate Angela and my best friend Robyn would talk about the books and I figured I’d check out what the hype was all about.

Were you hooked instantly, or did it take a while?
Instantly. There’s just something about the Wizarding World that really makes me want to believe in it.

Did you instantly fall in love with any specific character?
Harry. I’ve adored Harry since the first chapter of the first book.

Favorite…
Professor:
Lupin. I just loved his relationship with Harry in PoA.
Marauder: Tie between James and Sirius. The inseparable pranksters.
Gryffindor: Hermione — smart and bookish but unfailingly loyal and brave. Love her.
Slytherin: Snape. Or maybe Draco, even though I don’t really find anything sympathetic about his character.
Hufflepuff: Cedric?
Ravenclaw: Err… Cho Chang?
Character overall: Harry. Harry! HARRY!

How long did it take you to read…
Book 1: One night. I wanted to finish it right away just to get to the next 3.
Book 2: One night.
Book 3: One night.
Book 4: One day.
Book 5: 2 days. This book was a tough one for me — the tension and the darker tone made it more difficult for me to read.

If you were in Harry Potter…
What house would you be in?

As much as I’d want to be in Gryffindor with Harry, I’d most likely be in Ravenclaw.

What would your pet be?
An owl. Something low maintenance. Plus, I don’t like rats (ugh) or cats.

What would your wand be?
After looking at the wand selection at Alivan’s, I’d want the Lignum Vitae wand — strong wood with the essence of Dragon’s whisker.

Who would you date?
Harry, please.

What would be your favorite subject?
Charms. It seems to be the most practical.

PoA comments

I finally had the chance to sit down and put together some thoughts on the new Harry Potter movie (spoilers inside)…

I loved the movie! Suprise, surprise. I thought it was a much more superior film to the first two — it reflected the mature theme of the book and matched its darker tone. The movie flowed well, the humor was sharper, the scenery was gorgeous and looked more real and the kids have all vastly improved in their acting abilities, especially Dan (as much as I love him to death, I did find him to be a bit stiff in the earlier movies).

So my lists…

Things I Would Have Changed…
— The Shrieking Shack sequence, which seems to be a common gripe within the fandom. I just felt that it was a little rushed and not enough details were given. I mean, it wouldn’t have extended the movie by that much longer to have had more dialogue regarding the relationship between James, Sirius, Remus and Peter. Plus, it would have better explained why Snape was so angry with Sirius and Lupin.

— There was just not enough Ron. I know his part was minimized since the whole Scabbers/Crookshanks fight was downplayed as well… but still. I like Ron.

Things That Made Me Laugh…
— Ron and his dream about the spiders. Hee!

— Hermione: “Is that really what my hair looks like from the back?” A bit out of character for BookHermione but just perfect for MovieHermione.

— The Weasley Twins and how they finished each other’s sentences.

Things I Liked…
— The casting for Sirius and Lupin. Though Gary Oldman and David Thewlis do not look *at all* the way I pictured the characters to be (I imagined them much younger and more attractive, lol), I thought they both did a great job.

— Buckbeak. He looked *so* real. Go ILM!

— The way the changing of the seasons was shown, especially when the snow started falling down as Hedwig flew across Hogwarts.

Things I *Loved*…
— The very beginning of the movie when Harry is trying to be discreet about studying under the covers. I suppose it was a good sign for the rest of the movie that I already had a huge giddy smile on my face during this scene. 😀

— Harry walking down Privet Drive after blowing up Aunt Marge. The way the camera showed the empty environment around him just emphasized how alone he was. *shiver

— The Gryffindor boys eating the candy in their dorm room. Too. Cute. And Ron’s hat! Loved it.

— Harry flying on Buckbeak. I adore Happy!Harry.

— All the references to time… the cuckoo clock at the Dursleys, the clock tower at Hogwarts, the sundial near Hagrid’s Hut…

— The Harry/Ron/Hermione hug after Buckbeak is executed. Just, aww.

— Harry and Hermione. My OTP. *happy sigh* I just loved them to pieces. Hermione kneeling in front of Harry in the snow and removing the invisibility cloak. Hermione’s little slap as Harry tries to reach for the time-turner. Harry reaching behind her in the Shrieking Shack to grab her wand. The two of them holding each other as Buckbeak attacks Werewolf Lupin (this scene, in particular, was *so* gorgeous). GUH.

Anyway. I’ve already seen the movie twice now and I’m hoping I’ll get the chance to see it again. So… is it November 2005 yet? 😀
