50 book challenge

So I got a voicemail message last night at 3am from my best friends telling me that they were at some deli in Hollywood and had just seen Adam Brody, Ben McKenzie and Rachel Bilson. (!!!) OMG. I. AM. SO. JEALOUS. I have to call you two back to get more details. SQUEE.

I’m participating in the 50 Book Challenge and I figured I am overdue for an update and reviews…

January
1. Fearless by Francine Pascal, 199p
2. Fearless – Sam by Francine Pascal, 200p
3. Fearless – Run by Francine Pascal, 207p
4. Almost Paradisee by Susan Isaacs, 530p
5. Fearless – Twisted by Francine Pascal, 214p
6. The A-List by Zoey Dean, 243p
A book equivalent of a show like The OC. Pretty mindless and fun. If not a little far-fetched. Or maybe I’m just not cynical enough?
7. Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, 569p

February
8. The Last Juror by John Grisham, 486p
I’m still undecided on this book. I don’t know if I actually liked it or not. For me, it took a looong time for the story to get rolling, which almost made me stop reading a few times, but I liked the characters and their relationships too much to do so. An average Grisham effort.
9. Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, 372p
Ehhh. Nothing about this book really grabbed me. I didn’t understand the characters or their motivations. There was action and suspense but… I finished it feeling very disappointed.
10. Bridget Jones and the Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding, 338p
For whatever reason, I didn’t like Bridget as much in the sequel (I loved the first book). She totally frustrated me! lol. A fun read though.
11. Deception Point by Dan Brown, 557p
A *much* better book than Digital Fortress. The characters were better developed and there seemed to be real tension and conflict between all of them. The story had me guessing all the way through.

I just picked up The Secret Life of Bees this weekend which I can’t wait to start…

The Sunday Brunch

1. Did you go to college? Yes, I went to the University of CA, Berkeley aka CAL.
2. Did you live in a dorm or an apartment? Both. I lived in the dorms for the first 2 years and an apartment for my last 2.
3. Who was your favorite roommate? My friend Shirley! We were roomies for 3 years.
4. What is your favorite college sport? Not a huge sports person but I’d have to say basketball.
5. Who was your favorite professor and class? My favorite professor was Bruce Cain. I took a few of his classes — California Politics and the Ethics of Politics. Both were phenomenal.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

american dreams on wed?

I can’t believe NBC moved American Dreams to Wednesdays at 8pm (extra special thanks to Barry for letting me know about it). WEDNESDAYS! The day when I watch 4 (FOUR!) shows — Lost, Alias, Smallville, American Idol. Sometimes I’ll even watch Jack and Bobby on Wednesdays but luckily the WB reruns the show on Sundays (phew!). I guess I’m going to have to set both the Tivo and the VCR if I’m going to keep up with my Wednesday shows. ANYWAY. Is NBC trying to KILL the show?! It’s barely getting any viewers on Sundays when it’s against Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, how do they expect it to perform any better when it’s against Lost and American Idol?! I’m so upset. It’s such an amazing show and it seems like it may not get another season. I’m crossing my fingers for more Sam/Meg scenes!

In site news, Alie and I have decided to close the Everwood Network. 🙁 We both just got too busy with other projects (not to mention real life stuff) and had to let something go.

And now for a meme stolen from Amanda

another fandom meme

Because I am incredibly behind on TV (I have 3 weeks worth of Everwood episodes to watch — craziness!), a fandom meme…

Snagged from Jessica

Everwood
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Colin. Loved him from the very first second of We Hold These Truths. He remains my most favorite Everwood character.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Ephram. *hides* His constant bad attitude and cynicism got on my nerves in the beginning. But I’ve really enjoyed watching him grow and come into his own… he’s had a great journey.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Dr. Abbott. I have a soft spot for the guy but I really, really, really dislike the way he treats Bright (especially compared to Amy).
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Amy. Well, the fandom doesn’t hate Amy as much as I get the feeling that people just like to criticize her. Sure, she can be very self-centered but what teenager isn’t?
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: Dr. Brown. His treatment of Madison and now his affair with Amanda have completely soured the character for me.

The OC
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Ryan.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Summer. I never expected that the writers would actually give the character some depth. I’m glad they did.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Lindsay. She makes me yawn.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Marissa. I don’t know what it is but she intrigues me… alcohol and lesbian storylines included.
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: Seth. He’s become a bit too shrill and self-absorbed. Not to mention that he doesn’t seem to have much respect for his relationships with his friends (case in point: Summer and Zach).

24
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Tony. (Or maybe I’m just getting the character and the actor confused? lol)
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Chloe.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Sherry Palmer. UGH. She was always doing or saying something stupid. I don’t understand why she’s such a popular character within the fandom.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Kim.
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: Michelle. How could she leave Tony?! Especially after he risked everything to save her life. I’m hoping that she’ll make an appearance this season to explain herself.

CSI
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Nick. His innocence is so endearing.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Warrick and Brass.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Sara. She acts so smug sometimes.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Catherine. Although I’m not sure I like that she’s actually getting along with Ecklie now. Yuck.
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: Sara.

Alias
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Sydney.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Jack. He’s always been kinda morally ambiguous but I know that he would do anything to protect Syd.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Sloane. He was a bad guy! He was head of SD-6! I can’t let go of his past just because he’s somehow landed himself a leadership role in a Black Ops division of the CIA.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Vaughn. I just… I don’t know. I keep remembering s1/2 Syd and Vaughn and I fall in love with them all over again.
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: I don’t know… maybe Dixon? But that’s only because the writers haven’t given him a real storyline in awhile so it’s hard to care when he’s not doing anything.

Dawson’s Creek
1. The first character you first fell in love with: Pacey. All his insecurities hiding beneath the bravado. Awww.
2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now: Jen. I have to admit that I was a Dawson/Joey fan when the show started, so I naturally disliked Jen for “getting in the way.” She’s since become my favorite character on the show.
3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t: Andie. OMG, she drove me crazy.
4. The character you love that everyone else hates: Gretchen and Drue. Two great additions to season 4. I really wish they had kept Drue on for season 5 — it would have been really interesting to see a relationship develop between him and Jen. The writers really dropped the ball.
5. The character you used to love but don’t any longer: Audrey.

Time for bed…

west wing s2

Spent the entire weekend watching my West Wing s2 DVDs. I forgot how much I loved this season. In the Shadow of Two Gunmen, 18th and Potomac and Two Cathedrals… incredible. Plus, all the great Charlie/POTUS scenes! *hearts Charlie* I’ve just ordered season 3 and I can’t wait to have another weekend marathon. I haven’t seen these episodes since they first aired so everything is new again.

And in lieu of a “what I did this weekend” entry (since all I did was watch DVDs, heh), a meme…

The Fannish Five

Name 5 movies you thought you would hate, but didn’t.
1. Saved!
2. Gangs of New York
3. School of Rock (not a Jack Black fan)
4. The Rules of Attraction
5. Maid In Manhattan

Have a good week everyone!

even more TV comments…

Rob and I just got a “Save the Date” postcard for our friends’ wedding in July. In Hawaii! Squee! I can’t wait to be on vacation… now I just have to get in shape so I can wear a bathing suit. Crap.

Anyway, so much TV to process (spoilers for the past week’s new episodes)…

The OC
I’m totally loving the development in Seth and Summer’s relationship. I think Zach is a great guy and I was just starting to really like him and Summer together. But that flew out the window when Summer saw Seth’s comic drawings of her — I got reeled back in. As for everything else, I’m not too crazy with what’s going on. Alex and Marissa are totally forgettable (what are the writers doing to poor Marissa anyway? I actually like the character and they can’t seem to figure out what the heck to do with her), Ryan and Lindsay are boring me (I’m sorry, I tried), and Kirsten and Sandy are stressing me out (I already have massive hate for this new Rebecca character — get away from Sandy!).

Jack and Bobby
MIKE ERWIN. !!! YaY. I’m so happy to have him back on my TV again. I thought I’d be giving up this show (4 shows on Wednesday nights is overkill) but between Mike and Bradley Cooper, this show will be staying on my schedule for as long as they are. Heh. Plus, I’m liking Courtney tons better now that they’ve paired her up with Mike Erwin. She’s so much more laidback and likable now. Don’t have much to say about the Jack and Missy break-up other than it was inevitable. Thank goodness — Missy’s breathy voice drove me crazy. Still don’t like Grace. Or Bobby. Especially Bobby.

One Tree Hill
Where was Peyton? And Jake? Was it mentioned that they were still picking up Jenny and I missed it? I hope the actors were unavailable for filming because I cannot believe that Brooke’s crazy crab storyline was more important. And I actually *like* Brooke. I don’t know if I can say the same for Haley right now. Her continued correspondence with Chris is so aggravating. GRR. Nathan is right there! And he loves you! And he’s so cute! I can’t believe this episode made me like Taylor more than Haley. I didn’t think it was possible.

Smallville
No Lex until 38 minutes into the episode?! Humph. Well, at least I was treated to a Lex/Jason scene. Hee. And Lois returned! I missed her! This episode was probably one of the better ones in recent memory. I didn’t like Alicia in her previous episodes but I warmed to her in this one (though I still don’t quite *get* her relationship with Clark). Too bad they had to kill her off. I also really liked Chloe discovering Clark’s secret. Allison Mack did a great job at conveying both confusion and shock — I wonder if the writers are going anywhere with this reveal? I kinda thought that Chloe might be more concerned with the fact that Lionel’s out of jail. Anyway, Chris Carmack (welcome to the OC bitch! heh) is on next week! But with horribly long and tangled hair. Huh.

apprentice s3

I don’t know if I can watch The Apprentice this season. I tuned in to the premiere but I barely paid any attention. I think season 2 really killed the show for me. Ah well. holidays

I can’t believe there’s less than a week left before Christmas! Squee! Plus, I only have two and a half days of work this week. Which rocks. After that, I’m flying down to Southern CA to spend the holidays with my family. I just have to figure out how I’m going to pack all the presents I bought! Eeeep. Then on the 27th, I’m going to Las Vegas with Rob for a few days. I’ll be gone on my little Christmas adventure for a week and I. CAN’T. WAIT.

Does anyone else have any fun holiday plans? I’d love to hear all about them!

ocean’s twelve

So I went to see Ocean’s Twelve on Friday (mild spoilers may be ahead!)… and at first, I was a little disappointed with the movie but after a few days, I think I’ve changed my mind. It’s definitely not as good as the first but it’s still a fun, fun movie. I guess I just had extraordinarily high hopes because Ocean’s Eleven is one of my favorite movies ever. O12 lacked two important things that made the first movie work — real group interaction as well as a tight, cohesive script (there were a few unnecessary storylines — the rivalry between Ocean and Toulour, Isabel and the end to her story).

But whatever, it was still a highly entertaining movie with exceptional actors and The George, The Matt and especially The Brad were looking mighty nice. That should be reason enough to see it! Heh. I know, I’m shallow.

Fannish Five

What 5 characters perform their actual jobs well? (Characters from Clerks need not apply).
1. Leo McGarry, The West Wing
2. Karen Rowe, One Tree Hill
3. Gil Grissom, CSI
4. Kirsten Cohen, The OC

my weekend

Wow, I haven’t blogged in almost a week! I am so lazy. Really.

What have I been up to?

Well, I bought the new Kelly Clarkson CD, which I love. I’ve been listening to it practically non-stop. I particularly recommend Since U Been Gone, Because of You, and Addicted. Kelly has the most amazing voice — it’s so emotional and just rich. Everyone needs to check it out!

I also bought my Christmas tree this weekend! Squee! It smells so great, it’s all decorated and lit, and I can’t stop staring at it! I’m such a Christmas fangirl (if there *is* such a thing). I still have about half of my Christmas shopping to do though and of course, it’s for all the difficult and extremely picky people ie. my aunts, roommate Jimmy, older cousin, and Rob’s brother and wife. Anyone want to inspire me with some suggestions?

I’m so sad that Cal’s not going to the Rose Bowl. I don’t really follow college football, to be honest, but I *am* a proud Golden Bear and would have loved to see the team make it to that bowl game.

Heads up! I read on TV Shows on DVD that select HBO/Warner DVD sets are 50% off at Amazon. The highlights (to me, anyway) are: Gilmore Girls s1 ($29.99), Smallville s2 ($29.99), and The West Wing s1 and 2 ($29.99). I’m thinking of getting the SMVL and WW sets but I feel bad spending money on myself when I should be saving it for the presents I still have to buy… decisions, decisions.

Now for the Fannish Five

Name the five scenes that make you melt in True Fannish Love. Every. Single. Time.
1. Pacey and Joey (Dawson’s Creek) leaving Capeside for a summer together on the True Love (in season 3’s finale). The header image above is from this scene. *So* squee-worthy.
2. Ephram and Amy (Everwood) saying “I love you” to one another in Staking Claim. Just perfect.
3. Gilbert’s marriage proposal to Anne in the final scene of Anne of Avonlea (the movie). I just love it when Anne says “I don’t want sunbursts or marble halls. I just want you.” Awww.
4. Michael letting Maria (Roswell) “see” him in The Departure.
5. Nathan going to see Haley (One Tree Hill) after being released from the hospital in With Arms Outstretched. I just melt when he says “Then I saw you.. I promised myself that if I could just get up, and walk over to you, and tell you how much I need you, how much I want you, then nothing else matters.”

And an extra one for good measure…
6. Joe running to the airport to see Jess in Bend It Like Beckham. “I can’t let you go without knowing… we might still have something.” Guh.
