thanksgiving and other stuff

I’m so, so sad the loooong weekend is winding down. It was a good one! And I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Thanksgiving as well.

So… what have I been up to?

Last Tuesday, I flew back to southern CA to stay with my best friends for the night. I got to catch up and hang out with them (something I don’t do often cause you know, the distance and cause I’m a bad friend) and also see their apartment (that they’ve been living in for almost a year now but I haven’t seen cause of the whole bad friend thing). It was a really short visit but I had fun! Thanks guys! I hope I’ll get the chance to visit again soon.

😀

I spent the rest of the week at my dad’s house and had Thanksgiving with the usual suspects — my aunt, cousins, their significant others. My cousin hosted the dinner at his condo and he even cooked! Which is something he never used to do. His girlfriend seems to be domesticating him, hee. He made/bought a TON of food (not really your “typical” Thanksgiving fare but yummy all the same) — salad, corn chowder, 2(!) whole chickens, roast beef, garlic mashed potatoes , grilled salmon, baked macaroni, fruit salad, and apple pie. OMG. YUM. I ate so much. The whole dinner made me rethink the whole “I don’t like to cook” thing that I have. I even went so far as to pick up an issue of Everyday Food, which was recommended to me by the lovely Keenai. The worst thing about cooking to me is that it can take so long. I hate coming home from work and having to spend another few hours in the kitchen but a lot of the recipes in the magazine seem to require minimal prep time. So yeah, my very first New Year’s resolution (I realize it’s early but what the heck) is to learn how to cook and do it more often. We’ll see how long it lasts.

I also braved the crazy crowds on Black Friday to do a little shopping. Didn’t buy anything though. Well, my dad bought me a new suitcase but that doesn’t count cause I didn’t pay for it. I flew back home on Friday night (I just needed some time for myself plus the fare was a lot less expensive) and when I got home, I was browsing the Target website and saw that BtVS s7 and Dawson’s Creek s4 were on sale for $17.77. !!! I called the boyfriend (who was still in LA) and managed to get him to hunt them down. He went to 3 different stores but finally managed to snag a few copies. I already have DC s4 but I’m sure I can find someone to give it to for Christmas! Or maybe I can sell it on eBay. Hee.

Anyway, thanks everybody for the great comments in my entry below. I guess I had some momentary lapse of insanity when I said I would close my blog down. This is my home and I won’t be moving over to LJ. So, yay and all that.

Extending this entry a bit more by doing the Fannish Friday 5

What are your five favorite relationships in your fandom(s)?
1. Pacey and Joey, Dawson’s Creek. Like you all didn’t know that one! They’re just *it* for me. I lurve them.
2. Ephram and Amy, Everwood. They weren’t the ‘ship that I was originally drawn to on this show (that would be Colin and Amy) but in the past 2 seasons, I’ve really enjoyed watching them fumble through their friendship first and now their relationship. They just make me go “Aww.”
3. Harry and Hermione, Harry Potter. They work. They just do.
4. Anne and Gilbert, Anne of Green Gables. Probably my first ship ever.
5. Ryan and Seth, The OC. Disregarding the sexual tension these two seem to have in their scenes, I just feel like they have a really good friendship. Plus, they’re OMGSOCUTE!

I am so depressed at the thought of going back to work tomorrow.

meme time

Amazon.com tells me that my OC DVDs are going to be delivered tomorrow. Squee! 😀 So excited.

My cousin and her boyfriend are driving up here from southern California as I type. The two crazies decided to start a 6 hour drive at 9:30pm. Which means that they’ll get here at around 3:30am. And I’ll have to wake up to let them in! And then I’ll have to wake up again just a few hours later to make it to work by 7:30am for a meeting! I really should be in bed by now. Oh well. It’s not like I ever get enough sleep.

Anyway, it’ll be fun to have my cousin over for a few days. I haven’t seen her in months so we’ll get the chance to catch up and I’ll finally get to see if I approve of her boyfriend. Hehe.

I also have to think about my Halloween costume for the party that Rob and I are attending on Saturday. I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in AGES. Probably not since my freshman year in high school. That was 1993. !!! Geesh. It’s been a loooong time. I was actually thinking about being Hermione (from Harry Potter) but I don’t know if I’ll be able to find the right robes and stuff. I’ve never been original when it comes to costumes anyway so I’ll probably just buy the first cute thing I see when I head to the Halloween store tomorrow night.

tv meme

It’s sad that I need a meme to force me to blog… I seem to have blogger’s block. Or whatever it’s called.

more tv commentary… and a meme

I *really* enjoy looking at the GAP website. Why, you ask?

Reason #1 — Michael Vartan.
Reason #2 — Josh Duhamel.

YUM.

Anyway, watched a few more premieres so a few more TV thoughts (may contain spoilers)…

CSI
I’m a little bummed because I got home too late and missed the first half of the premiere. Grrr. From what I saw, it seemed like there were too many cases going on (4, if I remember correctly) so the storylines weren’t as in-depth as they normally are. However, seeing Greg in the field was cool and I really loved seeing Reiko Aylesworth as the replacement lab tech. Too bad she quit already! Reiko would have been a great cast addition. Glad the show is back though — as if I don’t watch enough CSI with the daily reruns on SpikeTV… hehe.

American Dreams
Stellar premiere. Meg and Rox’s skirt protest rocked and JJ’s phone call home seriously hurt my heart. Guh. Is it sad that I totally want JJ and Beth to be together? I believe they still love each other but they’re both too stubborn to admit it. And I’m totally worried about this relationship he’s forming with the Vietnamese caretaker/nurse at the hospital — it’s such an intimate situation that they’re in right now. Sniffle. I want JJ and Beth to work things out.

And a TV meme for good measure (stolen from Allison)…

voldemort

Lord Voldemort has been cast in Goblet of Fire — Ralph Fiennes! Good choice, I approve. Kel = shallow. Heh. 😉

So Rob and I watched Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle over the weekend… BWAH! I don’t know, I must have really weird and twisted humor cause I thought the movie was hilarious. You have to suspend belief a bit and also not be easily offended by stoner humor but otherwise, A+! I just about died of laughter when Harold and Kumar were singing along to Wilson Phillips. So. Funny.

Doing the Daily Dirt:
1. When is your birthday?
October 11. I’m going to be 25 this year. Guh.

2. If you change when your birthday was, would you?
Nope, I like October.

3. What was your favorite birthday party you ever had?
I think it was my 13th (or maybe 12th? crap, I have the worst memory) birthday and I had it at a roller rink. Aww, that was so much fun. 😀 However, I still vividly remember the outfit I was wearing and wow, it was horrible. I wore a black long-sleeved v-neck top, white shorts (the long ones that were cool back in 92), a really poofy black headband, and black flat mary janes. OMG. How embarassing. The next time I visit my dad I’ll have to hunt the pictures down and BURN THEM.

4. Do you have any original birthday traditions?
Nope, not really. I don’t even have cake on my birthday… oh wait, does going out to dinner with friends count as an original tradition?

5. Do you do any of the unoriginal birthday traditions, such as adding an extra candle for good luck, being the first to cut the cake, or smearing your name on your cake and putting it on your nose?
No… although I used to always try to get the day off from work, hehe. I remember on my 22nd birthday, I took the day off and ended up sleeping the entire day. That was awesome. Aww, I miss those extremely lazy, post-college, “I don’t want to grow up!” days.

Off to check out the blooper reel on my new 13 Going On 30 on DVD. Aww, Jennifer Garner! She’s so smiley and happy in this movie. Love her.

north shore

Ahhh, I’m feeling much better now… as I should after spending the past 4 days at home! Whee! I just love playing hooky from work and lying in bed watching my Sex and the City DVDs all day. Mmm.

So there was new TV tonight! I caught the premiere of the North Shore… and I guess it’ll do for my cheesy summertime drama (I’ve pretty much given up on Summerland — it was just *too* bad). The show reminds me a lot of NBC’s Las Vegas (Josh Duhamel, baby!) with the hotel/casino setting and the focus on the employees and guests. The storylines of the pilot were pretty bad (especially the Lamborghini situation, the celebrity visit and the Jason/Nicole love story) but… it was pretty! Hawaii looked breathtaking and the bartender, played by Jason Momoa of Baywatch: Hawaii fame (WHAT!), was definitely easy on the eyes. I’ll probably tune in solely for him. Heh.

I’ve also been watching Joan of Arcadia (Keenai, you would be proud :D)! I’ve seen 2.5 episodes (Recreation, half of State of Grace and Double Dutch) and so far I love what I’ve seen. Although… I really have absolutely no sense of the backstory (like what happened to Joan’s dad? and what’s going on between Joan and Adam?). Does anyone know if CBS is going to rerun the first few episodes again this summer or should I just break down and start downloading them?

Many, many thanks to my buddy Siobhan for the gorgeous card from Paris! 😀 I just got it today. Very exciting!

home sick

I can’t sleep.

I got sent home from work today for being sick (I’m a sneezing, coughing mess) and I slept earlier from about 11am until 4:30pm. So now I’m trying to go to sleep (I’m going to attempt to go to work tomorrow) and I can’t. I’m like, wide awake.

I watched the MTV Movie Awards and I learned 3 things:
1. Paris Hilton is a robot. Why does she *always* stand with her hands on her hips?

2. Lindsay Lohan can’t dance. (Well, she can but not in the same league as the You Got Served dancers.) Ouch.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal is really, really cute. Really.

I’m still in a Harry Potter state of mind so I’m going to do this meme (stolen from Miss Windy)…

When did you first discover Harry Potter?
Sometime in the summer of 2001. My college roommate Angela and my best friend Robyn would talk about the books and I figured I’d check out what the hype was all about.

Were you hooked instantly, or did it take a while?
Instantly. There’s just something about the Wizarding World that really makes me want to believe in it.

Did you instantly fall in love with any specific character?
Harry. I’ve adored Harry since the first chapter of the first book.

Favorite…
Professor:
Lupin. I just loved his relationship with Harry in PoA.
Marauder: Tie between James and Sirius. The inseparable pranksters.
Gryffindor: Hermione — smart and bookish but unfailingly loyal and brave. Love her.
Slytherin: Snape. Or maybe Draco, even though I don’t really find anything sympathetic about his character.
Hufflepuff: Cedric?
Ravenclaw: Err… Cho Chang?
Character overall: Harry. Harry! HARRY!

How long did it take you to read…
Book 1: One night. I wanted to finish it right away just to get to the next 3.
Book 2: One night.
Book 3: One night.
Book 4: One day.
Book 5: 2 days. This book was a tough one for me — the tension and the darker tone made it more difficult for me to read.

If you were in Harry Potter…
What house would you be in?

As much as I’d want to be in Gryffindor with Harry, I’d most likely be in Ravenclaw.

What would your pet be?
An owl. Something low maintenance. Plus, I don’t like rats (ugh) or cats.

What would your wand be?
After looking at the wand selection at Alivan’s, I’d want the Lignum Vitae wand — strong wood with the essence of Dragon’s whisker.

Who would you date?
Harry, please.

What would be your favorite subject?
Charms. It seems to be the most practical.

more thievery!

So I noticed that my bandwidth usage is abnormally high for the month but I was too lazy to look into it further earlier today. I think it’s the weather — it’s unbelievably hot and it’s making me completely unproductive. Anyway, I finally get around to checking my email after watching tonight’s Alias and I get an email from the lovely Shirphie (thanks girl!) letting me know about this site that took my layout from A Drop in the Ocean, a number of my wallpapers *and* to top it all off, they’re direct linking most of it. I’m so stupid for forgetting to install the .htaccess file ages ago. *hits head* I don’t even want to bother emailing this person so for now, I uploaded .htaccess so she doesn’t kill more of my bandwidth. I’ll have to get around to contacting her soon because there are a few images that she uploaded to her own server. Too bad I don’t know what language she speaks. UGH. If anybody knows and wants to drop me an email, I’d be really grateful. Also, does anyone know how to disable right-clicking? Any opinions on it? I can’t believe this. So annoying.

I’m going to do the Seven on Sunday because shopping and/or thinking about shopping always makes me feel better… 😉

Seven things you’d buy right now if you weren’t too broke to afford them…
1. A Marc Jacobs bag… soft leather, beautiful colors, and awesome hardware. Gorgeous all around, if it weren’t for the price.

2. Widescreen plasma HDTV. My boyfriend and I go to Best Buy to look at them. They’re so cool.

3. A new cell phone. I’ve had mine since the dark ages (1999). It’s so old and clunky compared to all the new phones.

4. A Laptop for Rob. He needs a new computer like, immediately.

5. A trip for Rob and me to traipse around Europe for a few months. We need the vacation.

6. This simple bracelet from Tiffany & Co.

7. A smaller house for my Dad. I always feel bad that I moved clear across the state and he lives in a 4-bedroom house by himself.

It’s about 1:45am and I’m not sleepy at all. I’m still fired up from learning about that site! Guh.

bored on a Friday night…

It’s a boring Friday night for me so I’m going to do the Friday Five

If you…
1. …owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?

Italian. I’m a sucker for pasta and tiramisu. Mmm. YUM.

2. …owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell?
Clothes! Because I’m a clothes whore, heh. I would carry items from my favorite designers — Ella Moss, Foley + Corinna, James Perse.

3. …wrote a book, what genre would it be?
Most likely chick lit cause I’m such the girly-girl. Maybe similar to the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.

4. …ran a school, what would you teach?
In college, I loved my pop culture classes so I’d enjoy teaching something similar. I mean, what’s not to love about studying TV and movies?

5. …recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
Bubblegum pop. Something fun that’ll call for a great video and rocking choreography.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

confirmed! dc s3!

I was having a pretty crappy day (for no particular reason really) and then 2 things happened that made me squee with delight:

1. Official confirmation on Dawson’s Creek Season 3 on DVD! OMGOMGOMG! Can you imagine? All the greatest Pacey/Joey moments (True Love, The Anti-Prom, The Longest Day, etc.) immortalized on DVD?!? So. Excited.

2. Finally, after sitting through a less than stellar season 3, Alias hits me with an awesome episode. I was seriously sitting on the edge of my seat for the entire episode. Loved Ricky Gervais (which reminds me that I need to finish watching The Office DVD), loved Vaughn (in glasses *dies*), loved Sark (in handcuffs!), loved Weiss (“method acting!”), loved Jack (“get the defibrillator!”). Basically loved all the men. Hee.

Speaking of men, let me do this great meme (stolen from Linda)…

10 TV Characters You’d Most Like to Have Sex With (HEE!)
1. Pacey, Dawson’s Creek — He’s sweet, romantic and has the ability to make a woman feel like the center of the universe. *sighs*
2. Colin, Everwood — The popular athlete who’s a cutie to boot.
3. Clark, Smallville — Cause who doesn’t love a good boy?
4. Vaughn, Alias — Spies are sexy. Especially spies who can speak French and rock a pair of eyeglasses like nobody’s business.
5. Tony, 24 — The guy gets shot and is back at work about an hour later. That kind of energy and stamina could be good in bed. BWAH!
6. Nathan, One Tree Hill — Equal parts arrogance and sweetness. Perfect.
7. Danny, Las Vegas — He just has the most mesmerizing smile. *melts*
8. Spike, Buffy the Vampire Slayer — That long, dark coat of his never fails to make me swoon.
9. Max, Roswell — So broody and shy with a dark, soulful quality to him.
10. Sark, Alias — He makes evil seem cool.

Guh. I had something else to blog about but after thinking about cute boys for the past few minutes, my brain has turned into a pile of mush. Hee. 😀
