tv catch-up

I’ve only fixed the php coding on 2 of my fanlistings and I’m already getting lazy. *yawn*

So, of course, I decided to play a little catch-up with my TV commentaries…

American Idol
Wow. That’s really all I can say. I was *so* surprised that LaToya, Fantasia and Jennifer comprised the bottom three. I was secretly hoping it would have been Fantasia, Diana and John. Le sigh. I guess that means I’ll have to endure those three for another few weeks. I’m still shocked that Jennifer was eliminated. I didn’t really like her at the beginning of the finals but she’s grown on me. She consistently did better and better each week and I don’t really think she deserved to go. But AI really is just one big popularity contest these days. Oh, and making George pick the top group was SO cruel and tacky. Ugh. The poor guy. The 3 divas were all cheering and then to find out that they’re the bottom three? Evil.

Smallville
I only managed to see the first half hour because I switched over to FOX to watch the horror that is American Idol. I wish I hadn’t. What I saw of Truth was excellent — it was Chloe-focused and she was totally rocking that truth serum. Plus, Pete! He likes Chloe! Aww. I have to download this episode — it’s killing me that I don’t know what happened at the end, lol.

24
The only thing that would have made this episode better for me would have been more Michelle. Is it just me or is it a little unrealistic that she’s not yet showing symptoms of the virus? I mean, she’s been walking around the hotel exposing herself to it! And so many of the hotel guests already have nose bleeds. Maybe I’m just trying to be optimistic. *crosses fingers for Michelle* The best part of the episode was when Kim, Jack and Tony were in the conference room screaming at each other about the operation. Talk about tense! I’ve enjoyed Kim this season so I’m hoping that the writers don’t turn her into a hopeless victim again in the next few hours. And didn’t it seem like Chapelle’s death just happened and nobody really absorbed it? That was really jarring. Anyway, yay for the official renewal for season 4!

One Tree Hill
Ok, so I’m firmly on board the Peyton-love train now. I just loved all her interaction with Jake and Jenny and her smackdown of Nikki — “All the eyeliner in the world doesn’t not make you into a psycho-stalker bitch!” OMG, Peyton rocks. I’ve also done a complete turn-around on Brooke. I thought she was tons of fun when she didn’t care what anyone else thought about her. But now, with the whole lying to Lucas about the pregnancy thing? I’m just not feeling her anymore. I know she’s hurting but the whole lie was just too calculated for me to have any kind of sympathy for her. Still loving Nathan and Haley (they *lurve* each other!) and Dan is still an evil, evil man. I can’t believe he told Lucas that he wanted Karen to have an abortion. But I almost felt sorry for him at the end when he was looking at Lucas’s pictures. Almost.

I also watched The O.C. and Friends but I think I’ve rambled on long enough. *g* Plus, I need to start cleaning my apartment. My cousin is coming to visit next week and this place is not ready for guests. Eeek!

tv commentary

There’s nothing like drowning yourself in TV to make yourself feel better…

One Tree Hill
Good grief — the pregnant storyline for Brooke?!? Ugh. So lame. They already have Karen and Jake to represent the teenage parents. Way to recycle plotlines, writers. Loved all the Nathan/Peyton interaction which totally surprised me because I didn’t like their relationship in the beginning of the show. I can see now that there was (and is still is) something deeper between them and they genuinely care about the other. I’d probably be open to Nathan/Peyton redux. Maybe. I’m also warming up to Hilarie Burton. She just seems more relaxed and comfortable where before she struck me as kind of stiff and awkward. Haley, Haley, Haley — I was so disappointed in the tattoo. It felt very out of character for me. I hope she doesn’t get hurt though. I adore her. And am I the only OTH fan who prefers Karen/Larry to Karen/Keith?

American Idol
No more voting for me, I think. I only like George and Jasmine at this point but tonight they were pretty… meh. Such horrible, horrible song choices. I don’t want either of them to go but they gave me no motivation to pick up the phone and actually vote. LaToya and Jennifer totally “wow-ed” me — they have such beautiful, strong voices — but for some reason, I can’t connect or relate to them in any way. *shrugs* Don’t particularly care for Fantasia or the two Jo(h)ns either. My track record hasn’t been very good but I’m going to predict that Diana’s going to get the boot tomorrow night.

The O.C.
LUKE! NO!!! *sniff* I can’t believe he’s moving to Portland. 🙁 I really liked his goodbye scene with Ryan — “Welcome to Portland, bitch!” I hope this move isn’t permanent. I thought Luke was a great character and I’m sure the writers could think up some great storylines for him next season. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Still loving Seth/Summer. Their banter (tm Pacey and Joey) rocks. OMGtheyareSOcute! Especially during their yearbook scene. *sigh* Summer broke my heart when she said “Was I really mean to you?” Aww. Also? I don’t like Caleb. I may not be the biggest Marissa fan but blackmailing her was so wrong.

Apprentice tomorrow — GO KWAME!

24 is back!

YES! 24 is back. *huggles 24*

Some potentially spoiler-y comments…

Too bad 24’s return is coupled with Michelle/Tony angst. 🙁 I love them so, so much (well, maybe I’m biased because it’s TONY) and I can’t stand to see them so sad. If TPTB kill off Michelle with that crazy virus, I will be a very unhappy camper. At least she’s letting her inner bitch out in the meantime. I was totally rooting for her to shoot the guy in the hotel — he was going to let the virus out! Silly civilian.

Still not caring about President Palmer’s storyline. What a big yawn-fest. DB Woodside is quite the looker though. Heh. 😉

As for the other FOX show that I watched tonight, thank goodness American Idol is only an hour now. No more fluff pieces! But horror of horrors, the guest judges are back. Blah. They always bore me and have nothing to say that any of the regular 3 haven’t said. Oh well. On a positive note, I think I’ve found my 2 favorites — George and Jasmine! They both totally “wowed” me tonight, yay! Too bad I don’t think either really have a chance to win since to me it seems like we’re headed for a LaToya versus Fantasia final two. Though I really, really hope not. Anyway.

Just because it was fun to do this last week…
My predictions for the bottom 3 are — Camile, John and Jon. With Camile packing her bags.

the LA on the OC

So my American Idol predictions were a *little* off. 2 out of 3 isn’t bad, right? 😉 I didn’t particularly enjoy Matt so I can’t say I’m sad he’s gone. I just hope that the contestants improve next week — I don’t think I can take any more subpar performances.

Anyway, I don’t know if I was just blinded because I missed the show but I totally enjoyed tonight’s episode of The O.C.. Not much depth but still a lot of fun. And it’s cool to see that the show has no qualms about making fun of itself. I loved all the references to The Valley, the Seth/Summer jealousy (aww, they’re so cute!) and all the Sandy/Jimmy restaurant stuff. The only thing that marred the episode for me was the return of Hailey. Blah.

Some of my favorite quotes…
Sandy: “You’re really not so good at managing the money, huh Coop?”

Kirsten: “I knew you didn’t go to the IMAX.”

Marissa: “Okay, you’re starting to sound like Seth.”
Ryan: “Yeah, he’s rubbing off on me.”

Ryan: “How does he play high school?”
Seth: “Its Hollywood, man.”

Paris Hilton: “Orange County? Ew!”
Summer: “She said Ew!”

Grady: “Why? I’m not in this scene.”

Seth: “I heard some really, really awful music and I knew it could only be self-indulgent actors with instruments.”

Seth: “Or you could be the Bitch.”
Summer: “All right, I’ll take the Boobs.”
Seth: “So will I.”

And my MOST favorite quote…
Summer: “He saved Middle Earth. It’s, like, the most important part of European history.” HEE!

I can’t decide if next week’s episode looks good or bad. Huh.

AI… again

Why does FOX insist on having a 2-hour episode of American Idol?!? 2 hours is waaaay too long. I think they could easily have had 11 performances in 1 hour. Instead, they decide to fill it up with useless fluff commercials and that horrific video of Paula and Simon (my eyes! they are on fire!).

My predictions for this week’s bottom 3: Jennifer, Matt and Camile. With Jennifer packing her bags.

Also, Josh Gracin is releasing an album?!? WHY?!?

american idol s3

So I finally tuned in to American Idol tonight to catch the top 12 performances… and I felt totally and completely underwhelmed. I think the judges are right in saying this is probably the most talented group from all 3 seasons but none of the contestants really captured my attention tonight. I mean, in the first season, when Kelly Clarkson sang Natural Woman, I seriously fell in love! No one this season so far.

Another thing I noticed that in this top 12, everyone fits into some type of category — the R&B/diva singers (LaToya, Jennifer, Fantasia), the pop stars (Diana, Jasmine, Camile, Leah), and then the rest. It totally seems like the judges want to manipulate the audience into voting for a certain “type” of performer.

I do think it’s cool that 2 filipinos made it into the top 12 though. Represent! (Note: I do not talk like this in real life.) 😀

oh christmas tree

The rain finally let up a little bit today so we were able to get our Christmas tree! 😀 It’s all pretty and decorated now. I love looking at it. So soothing. I love Christmas. I really need to get a holiday layout going here… I’m just so lazy. Plus my laptop is being crappy right now. It seems that some kind of evil adware/spyware crap has hijacked Internet Explorer and I don’t know how to fix it. ^%$#@!* Grrr.

A few days ago I received a DVD from Netflix and open it to find From Justin to Kelly: A Tale of Two American Idols. OMG. I *completely* forgot this movie was on our Netflix queue. Hee. So I decide to watch it…

WOW. The movie (can it actually be called that? This was an atrocity.) is SO. BAD. The main Justin/Kelly storyline made me roll my eyes numerous times. It’s just *so* silly. And I normally enjoy over-the-top cheesy movies. Don’t even get me started on all the “extra” storylines (like the geeky guy and his internet date and Kelly’s best friend going out with the local). Ack. There simply are no words. I have no clue why Justin, Kelly or their management thought this movie was a good idea. I mean, I seriously think it was a waste of their time. I’m sure they must have spent at least a couple of months shooting, right? Months that they could have spent on their actual musical careers.

Ugh. I am currently trying to download some of Clay Aiken’s CD (What?!? :P) and all the songs have been DUDS. Sometimes I hate Kazaa. Now is one of those times.

ruben and clay

Yay for Ruben! 🙂 I have no preference between Clay and Ruben — I think they’re both amazing — but I honestly thought Clay was going to win. Don’t know why I believed that — though I *think* I read somewhere that Clay’s single is #1 on Amazon.com. I guess I just assumed that that sealed the deal. I hear they’re both releasing albums at the same time so it doesn’t really matter. I think the record contract in itself is more important than the competition.

As for the Buffy series finale, it was amazing. I was so happy to see the Scoobies working together again — just like old times. I had a huge smile on my face during their scene in the hallway — “the Earth is definitely doomed.” And I especially loved that Buffy finally got to become a “normal girl” at the end. Wow, so it really is the end. Another obsession — gone. I wasn’t involved in the fandom of BtVS like I was with Dawson’s Creek but it entertained and inspired me week after week, much like a really good friend. And I’m sad to see it end.

A Buffy/Angel exchange from the finale that I love:
“It’s different. He’s different. He has a soul now.”
“Ah. Well.”
“What?”
“That’s great. (mumbles) Everybody’s got a soul now.”
“He’ll make a difference!”
“Yeah, well, I started it. The whole having a soul. Before it was all the cool new thing.”
“Oh my God, are you twelve?”
“I’m getting the brush-off for Captain Peroxide. It doesn’t necessarily bring out the champion in me.”
“You’re not getting the brush-off! Are you just gonna come here and go all Dawson on me every time I have a boyfriend?”

Hee. I love the Dawson reference. Funn-ay stuff.

goodbye yellow brick road

Was anyone else stunned when Ryan Seacrest announced that Ruben was in the bottom 2 on American Idol? Never saw that one coming.

And can I just say that Katie Holmes’s hair looks awful. It’s all 2-toned — dark brown for 5 inches at the top and then it transitions into a horrid bright orange. Ugh. Why did she choose now, at the end of DC, to grow out her roots? It’s really distracting. Anyway… my thoughts on tonight’s episode of Dawson’s Creek, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road…”

Finally! We are getting to the good stuff.

Dawson and Joey: I loved the return of the ladder — I really loved their quirky friendship in season 1 (sleeping in each other’s beds, talking on and on about sex) and I was happy to see them clearing the air, so to speak, and actually talking about what happened to them in “The Song Remains the Same.” I really do think that the show is primarily about them and the place they have in each other’s lives — and it seems like they’ve finally gotten past their romantic issues and are able to be just friends.

Pacey and Joey: When their scene first started, I was annoyed with KH’s delivery of the lines — she seemed to be chastising Pacey instead of consoling him. But once it ended, I realized Joey was right. Pacey is so quick to out himself as a “loser” and get all negative and depressed. Loved Joey’s little squeeze at the end… very reminiscent of “Like A Virgin.”

Dawson and Pacey: I’m one of the few DC fans who actually *sees* the friendship between these two — so to see them fight AGAIN, just made me so sad. I don’t see how I could pick a side — I think both of them had valid points and they both took the argument too far. Cause seriously, did Dawson have to bring up the triangle again? So 3 years ago. And did Pacey have to be so defensive? Dawson *did* want to cash out last week but Pacey didn’t listen. But was it just me or was the fight scene a little… off. Joey’s little interruptions really ruined the flow or something. And every time she put her hand on her forehead, I looked at her 2-toned hair and I totally forgot there was a scene going on. It really is that distracting for me.

Jack/Jen/Grams: The best part of the episode for me! Can I love these 3 anymore than I already do? 😀 Their interaction is so natural and real to me. I love them to pieces. And I especially like how continuity came for a visit when Jen and Grams reminded Jack that he wanted to go to the University of New York back in season 4.

And the PROMOS! Agh!

too much good tv

Well, what do you know?! My guestbook dies. I don’t want to bother with it so I leave it alone. And weeks later, it magically works again. Very cool. 🙂

Is it just me or is anyone else not feeling anything for the current American Idol contestants?

Last season, I was all about Kelly — she captured me the week when she sang “Natural Woman” (I think it was the 2nd or 3rd week of the top ten part of the show) and ever since then, I’ve loved her. I got all fangirly obsessed by downloading her old demo singles and videos of her performances. But this season, there has been no one that I adore like that. Sure, I like Clay, Ruben, and Kim Locke — but none of them capture me so much that I seek out more information on them, you know? Anyway…

Yay for Buffy! And Smallville! And Gilmore Girls!

Though I have to say that I was kinda half-watching SMVL — and of course, what happens? I miss the Clark ass shot! But I think I saw enough of it in the promos, lol. Well, there’s always the rerun on Sunday. 😉

And let’s see… I’m going to attempt to use the extended entry feature here so I can talk about Buffy and Dawson’s Creek without giving anything away to the spoiler-free… be warned though, there are some DC finale spoilers…
