friday five on saturday

Going to see Austin Powers in Goldmember (:P Amy) in a few but I thought I would do the Friday Five first —

How long have you had a weblog? Since January 2002 — when I got my domain. For the first month, I blogged manually because I couldn’t figure out how in the heck to use Blogger.
What was your first post about? Something about hoping my domain finally worked. lol. Really lame, like “Oh my gosh! I hope this works! Please work!” heh.
How many changes (name, location, etc.) of your weblog have there been, if more than one? I don’t have a name for my blog — just never really occurred to me to have one. ::shrugs:: And the blog has always been accessible on what I call the “main” portion of my site — the page after the splash that holds the navigation to the different sections.
What CMS (content management system) do you use? Do you like it or do you want to try something else? I use Greymatter, which is amazing. I actually tried to use Blogger first but for some reason, I am too stupid to use it. My entries would never show up. Humph. But I’m glad I installed Greymatter instead because it really is much better to have everything located on my domain.
Do you read people who have both a journal and a weblog? Or do you prefer to read people who have all of their writing in one central place? The people I know really only have weblogs. Besides, sometimes I think that by reading people’s random thoughts and comments that you can learn a lot more about them than by reading something that they’ve intentionally written to be deep and meaningful.

pick a celebrity…

Hmm… I have absolutely nothing to blog about so I stole — uh, *borrowed* this mini-survey from Christie.

Pick a celebrity that you’d…

…like to look like. Kristin Kreuk — just look at her!
…like to date. Joshua Jackson — ::swoons::
…like to be friends with. Michelle Williams
…like to have as your personal fashion consultant. Nicole Kidman — she’s like the epitome of style
…like to drink a beer with. Michael Rosenbaum — he just seems like such a happy-go-lucky kind of guy 😛
…like to act in a movie with. Ewan MacGregor — just *cause.*
…like to hang out with (doing what?). Katie Holmes — going shopping, of course!
Fun fun. 😀

sick AGAIN!

I got sick AGAIN! This will teach me never to work in the blazing hot sun on the Fourth of July again. My nose is all stuffed up and I’m running dangerously low on nice, puffy tissues. ::sigh:: Argh!

But regardless, I had a pretty good time — I was working the spin wheel and giving out free prizes so I got to see lots of erm… interesting people. There were some station groupies who kept hovering by the booth and staring at us. And they weren’t even trying to be nonchalant about it. I think news talk groupies are the worst. They devote their lives to listening to the station day in and day out and they consider the radio personalities to be their close friends. It’s really disturbing.

The fireworks at the end of the night though — wow. They were awesome. There was just something about being in a large crowd staring up at the sky with excitement that made me truly feel like I’m a part of something. I felt wildly patriotic especially when hearing part of President Bush’s 9/11 speech accompanied by music — “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.” ::shudders:: That alone gives me chills.

Gonna do the Friday Five: (on time for once!)

Where are you right now? I’m at home in my room — where I’ll probably be for the rest of the weekend cause I’m sick and lazy and right now, reading all the P/Jo fanfic I can find. 😛
What have you lost recently? Well, when I reformatted my hard drive, I lost all my programs and had to reinstall everything. What a pain. I hope that never happens again.
What was the first CD you ever purchased? Does that embarrass you now? You know, I have absolutely no idea — but I think it was Boyz II Men’s II. I’m not embarrassed by that CD at all. They’re like my first “boy band” love.
What is your favorite kind of writing pen? I love colored gel pens, especially the glittery colors. I’m such a girly girl. To be exact, they’re the Pentel gel rollers. I think I own every color.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? I have more than one — Rocky Road and Pistachio Almond by Baskin Robbins and Strawberry by anybody. Yum. 😛
I also want to wish my friend Sara a very happy birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day sweetie. 🙂

scooby doo, where are you?

I went to see Scooby Doo earlier today — I wasn’t expecting much especially after reading so many bad reviews about it but I thought it was entertaining. Matthew Lillard was really good as Shaggy — he really has the voice down pat. The one really bad thing was Freddie Prinze Jr.’s hair — it freaked me out. It just does not look natural.

Going to do the Friday Five

When was the last time you…
…sent a handwritten letter? Oh man! It’s been a long time — um, maybe my sophomore year in college, which was 3 years ago. I used to keep in touch with an elementary school friend via letters but I’m just terrible at keeping in touch so that kind of fizzled out. 🙁
…baked something from scratch or made something by hand? Well, last summer, I got one of those latch hook kits (it was of Winnie the Pooh) — you know, just to have something to do while sitting at home pondering what I should do with my life. 😛 I guess I wasn’t that dedicated or I was really lazy (probably the latter) cause it took me a few months to finish it. lol.
…camped in a tent? Looong ago — maybe when I was like 10? My dad loved camping so when I was younger, we would go a few times a year. It was okay — not something I really enjoy. The worst part of the whole experience would be using the coin-operated showers. Ugh. I once had shampoo still in my hair and I ran out of quarters. No joke. Luckily, my mom was also in the restroom and ran back to the campsite to get me more. Gah.
…volunteered your time to church, school, or community? It’s so sad that I can’t remember… Well, I don’t know if this counts but when I was in college, I volunteered as a mentor for incoming freshman. I helped them get accustomed to their new surroundings and I acted as a resource for them throughout the year.
…helped a stranger? Maybe about 2 weeks ago, a lady asked for directions in downtown San Francisco. I gave her directions but a couple seconds later, I realized that I had directed her in the complete opposite direction so I ran to catch up with her (which in SF is no small feat what with all the people milling about during the lunch hour) and told her I was sorry and gave her the correct information. 🙂

i feel fat

No more coke. No more sweets. No more junk food. I swear. Must exercise. I know I’ve been saying that — but now I have the motivation. I just tried on a cute skirt I bought about a year and a half ago and it barely fits! Grrr!

Anyway, I exercised my check card quite a bit earlier this evening — I went on a bit of a shopping spree. I bought 2 pairs of shoes at Nordstrom (hey, they were both on sale!), a belt at American Eagle and a cute tank at A&F. 🙂 I just got my paycheck today and it’s almost all gone, lol.

It’s been a looong time since I’ve answered The Friday Five — here goes:

Do you live in a house, an apartment or a condo? apartment
Do you rent or own? rent
Does anyone else live with you? yup, my boyfriend Rob and my cousin Warren — two boys! Guess who does most of the cleaning? 😉
How many times have you moved in your life? 4 times — I grew up in Southern CA and lived there until I moved away for college (I went to UC Berkeley in Northern CA). After enduring the dorms (and yucky co-ed bathrooms) for 2 years, I moved to an apartment close to campus with a couple of friends. Then after graduation, I subletted another apartment for a month while I was getting everything settled for my last move to the current apartment where I am now. Whew. I want to stay here for awhile (well, I have to cause I just signed a lease for a year a few months ago) cause last summer, I moved twice in the span of 2 months and it was a serious pain in the ass.
What are your plans for this weekend? Nothing really. Just want to clean the apartment, vacuum and maybe get Rob to watch Minority Report with me when he gets back home on Sunday (are you reading this? can we go please?)

Also: *Huge* thanks to Dirty Rob (:P) for sending The Black Hawk Down DVD! 🙂 You totally made my face light up — Ewan and Josh! You’re the best. Take care of yourself when you’re in Korea.

boo!

So I’ve had a pretty good weekend so far — haven’t done much but it hasn’t been bad or anything. 🙂

I went to watch 2 movies — Blade 2 and The Scorpion King. I’m not much of an action-adventure buff but they were both entertaining — and that’s all I really ask for in a movie. I’m not one of those people who needs to be intellectually stimulated in order to think the movie was good. I guess that makes me easy (?). (Heh, no not that way!) 😉 I liked The Scorpion King a bit better only because it was a bit more light and of course, The Rock was in it. 😛 I don’t know why but I totally love him right now. lol. My boyfriend watches wrestling so by default, so do I. Ever since I saw him on Smackdown or RAW or whatever, I found him to be really intriguing. He’s just so charismatic and it doesn’t hurt that he’s cute. ::insert giggly smile:: Blade 2, on the other hand, was more dark — in terms of subject matter — you know, vampires and reapers and all.

Hmm… I’m going to do the Friday Five

What’s your favorite TV show and why? Dawson’s Creek. I connect to each of the characters in one way or another — and I fell in love with them through the (at times) realistic and poignant stories that were told. Plus, I *adored* Pacey and Joey’s romantic relationship so I’ll continue to watch just to see these two crazy kids interact — all the while hoping that the writers will get a clue and put them back together. 😉

Who is your favorite television star? Joshua Jackson — he’s another very charismatic actor. He just draws you in to the scene, whether it be dramatic or comedic. I heart him.

What was your favorite TV show as a child? Beverly Hills Teens. Hee.

What show do you think should have been cancelled by now? Any of the reality shows — enough already!

What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? Undeclared. I didn’t watch enough episodes to call myself a fan but what I did see was pretty funny.

my fave topic — food

Just doing the Friday Five cause I can’t sleep…

What is your favorite restaurant and why? I’d have to say Macaroni Grill — I’m a sucker for pasta. Yum.

What fast food restaurant are you partial to? Jack in the Box or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

What are your standards and rules for tipping? I usually tip whatever the tax is times 2. That roughly comes to 15%.

Do you usually order an appetizer and/or dessert? I’ll usually get an appetizer but rarely a dessert — the only place I get a dessert at is the Cheesecake Factory. You just have to.

What do you usually order to drink at a restaurant? Either a Shirley Temple or a Coke.

so here i am

I finished the book The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis (thanks for recommending it to me, Amy!) and while it wasn’t a book that I would normally read (I’m more of an angsty romance kind of person), I found it to be really thought-provoking. It’s about 3 college kids in the height of the Reagan era who live their lives by no one’s rules — they have sex, do drugs and toy with other people’s emotions. It was really shocking to see how this book spoke to the changing times of the 80s. AIDS, abortion and sex replaced the ideals of free love and peace. Romance died at the hands of cynicism. It was a little depressing at times (only because I don’t view love the same way the characters do) but it was a good slap in the face for me cause when I was in college, I was pretty sheltered (meaning I didn’t party “hard” or try recreational drugs) so it was interesting to read about feelings that motivate that type of lifestyle.

Anyway, I know it’s not Friday but I liked the questions for the Friday Five so here it is…

What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day? Hmm… after, I snooze my alarm clock about 3 times, I’ll take a shower, put on my contacts, brush my teeth, turn on the radio, get dressed and either run out the door as fast as I can to catch the bus to the train station or wake up Rob, who will drive me. heh.

What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed? Brush my teeth, wash my face, turn off my computer, and set my alarm clock.

What daily routine have you recently added to your day? Nothing really — well, my site is still pretty new so I guess I could say blogging.

What routine do you wish you could get rid of? Going to work. heh. If I could, I would love to be a professional world-class traveler (is that even a word?).

What’s the one (I’m going to make it two) thing(s) that makes you feel like something is missing if you don’t do it some point within your day? Checking my email and blogging on my site — I’m such an Internet junkie!

seven on sunday

I hope everyone had a great Easter Sunday! 😀

Mine was really peaceful — I spent it home alone in my apartment (my roommates went home for the holiday). I was thinking about going to see my family in Southern CA but I just didn’t have the money for a plane ticket and now that I’m out of college, I hate pestering my dad for money. It’s okay though. I got the chance to watch old episodes of Dawson’s Creek! Ah, the good old days. You know, watching the past seasons really made me miss Capeside. The show just isn’t the same without Dawson’s dock, the glistening water of the Creek and the gorgeous sunsets. ::sigh::

And just cause I thought this was an interesting topic, I decided to do Rae’s Seven on Sunday:

My Top 7 TV Couples of All Time
1. Pacey and Joey (Dawson’s Creek)
2. Buffy and Angel (BtVS)
3. Brenda and Dylan (BH 90210)
4. Chandler and Monica (Friends)
5. Sonny and Brenda (General Hospital)
6. Michael and Maria (Roswell)
7. Clark and Lana (Smallville)

Gawd, I just realized that I’m really boring — there’s nothing unconventional or surprising about the couples I chose. Oh well, I love them all just the same.
